LC Dems Disavow Felton's Tepid Support for Fed Ed

In reaction to Walter Felton's tepid support of indicted Allentown Mayor Edwin "Fed Ed" Pawlowski last night, the Lehigh County Democratic Committee has issued this statement:

As you may have seen, Walt made a statement supporting Mayor Pawlowski last night. He did not have authorization from the board or officers to say what he did. As a result, we need to send a statement to the press countering his statement. This is what has been prepared.

"As officers of the Lehigh County Democratic Committee and Allentown City Democratic Committee, we felt the need to clarify that the remarks made yesterday by Chairman Walter Felton were in a personal capacity, and a personal capacity only. He was not speaking on behalf of the Lehigh County Democratic Committee. He had no authorization from the executive committee, other officers, or the committee as a whole to do so. His remarks should not, under any circumstances, be construed as official support for Mayor Pawlowski from the Lehigh Dems."

This statement is from Hillary Kleinz, 1st Vice Chairperson; Danielle Shackelford, Secretary, President Allentown City Committee; Celeste Dee, Treasurer; and Executive Committee Members Naomi Winch, Joyce Moore, Kathleen Miller, Ce-Ce Gerlach, Clyde Thomas and Jamie Saye.

  2. And, Joyce, thank you and your fellow committee members for doing the right thing. Walter was out of line bigtime.

  3. This is weak. The problem they have is that Felton spoke without Board approval, and actually took a side. The committee can't just hope to remain silent and have it both ways.

Their organization needs to call for Pawlowski to resign. They knew this day was coming and should have had it ready for yesterday. If Felton can't deliver their message, they should remove him.

Also, every Democrat politician - from City Council, School Board, county government, State legislator, etc. needs to call for Pawlowski's resignation. Many likely won't do that, since they were supported and put into office by Pawlowski.

Doing the right thing is calling on Pawlowski to resign.

  5. These are the same people who have supported and empowered Ed. Hollow words from people who turned a blind eye in some cases and ran full on interference in other cases. Party before the people has once again cultivated corruption. Calling for Ed's resignation is too little too late. He needs to ride this out and bring all of the cronies down with him.

    1. Some of those officers called on Pawlowski to resign a year ago.

  7. Spare me the pious indignation. The reason Fed Ed was able to do what he did is because he was supported by corporate cronies, many of them Republican, whose true God is the Almighty Dollar. This is not about political party. It is about hubris and greed and I can tick off plenty of people from both parties who are guilty of those sins.

  9. I will not be voting for Ed Pawlowski in November ... I believe that the Democratic Party immediately should petition the court to have the 2nd place voter in the primary placed on the ballot due to Pawlowski's legal problem ... If would be helpful if he voluntarily resign immediately... resign immediately ... It would be very much of a shame if Pawlowski is reelected in November and even then decides to remain as Mayor.... We cannnot have a work release Mayor or a Mayor that runs the City through a Prison Cell in event he is convicted ... Time for Pawlowski to go... I was a Democratic candidate in the Spring Primary for County Commissioner District # 3 and would have called for Pawlowski resignation had I won the Democratic Primary ... I believe my successful opponent Amy Zanelli should announce the same opinion ,,, And I also say this of Goeff Brace who was unopposed in the primary to say the same,,,

Then it should be quite easy for the local Democrat committee and all democrat politicians to join in calling for Pawlowski's resignation.

The irony is that these are the same people who sat by for years, saying nothing about what was going on. Many, especially those in Allentown City Hall, certainly knew - or should have known - that something was wrong and done should have done something about it before the Feds were involved.

  15. Let's all pretend that Ed haven't exploited the black and Latino base to the max.
    Shameful.

  17. It's very hard to remove a Country Chair in the Democratic party. Either the state committee would have to remove him or the Entire country committee

    ReplyDelete
  18. The Executive Board doesn't have the power to remove a county chair on it's own

    ReplyDelete
  19. or honestly the party would be going through county chairs like toilet paper

  21. Questions to ponder:

When did Hailstone step down and where is she today?

Why bother with a one count indictment (Allinson)? I'll bet that gets plead down unless it costs him his letter law license.

What are the sentencing guidelines for the counts against the mayor?

Who is paying for his honors attorney?

    How about Hickey?

  22. The Democratic party has to work on removing Pawlowski from the ballot. There's no way they can support him through November without seriously damaging all other Democratic candidates now and in the future. Put O'Connell on the ballot since he came in second. That should be a no brainer. Is this really what we want popping up when people google Allentown?

  23. I've looked at the indictment and can say with utter confidence that the Fed's have a very tough case, and Pawlowski's lawyer is a fucking beast in the court room.

Bernie I know you have an ax to grind with the mayor of Allentown but remember you were disbarred and disgraced for a multitude of improprieties leave this one up to the pros.

  24. @9:32PM Maybe you should examine your own words, hypocrite. You have ax to grind with Bernie, and who the hell are you to opine on the outcome of the indictment? lol you have to love the internet.

  25. @8:12PM federal sentencing guidelines are on the internet. I used them in case in which I was a victim, and came within one level of that chosen by the judge.

  26. Walt should voluntarily resign as LC Democrat Committee chairman. He violated all ethics of his position by speaking for the organization he leads without first gaining their support for his statement position. LC Democrat Committee needs to act minimize the damage he has caused and more so the damaged caused by the Mayor.

  27. The first black party chair should resign?
It's pretty clear what's happening here.

Walt should have avoided discussing this for another reason. He is a terrible speaker. Nice guy, but that's it. In fairness to him, he did say he was speaking as himself and not as the Chair. But he also said he is the Chair, so he just confused everyone.

  29. Walt does what the political faction that installed him tells him to do.
    It's quite simple.

  30. How come Joyce Moore don't ever come to Allentown?
She's not my mayor and she ain't my parties leader.

  31. I'm an independent voter because I don't believe in the core politics of both majority parties. However, the rest of the Lehigh County Democrats who don't support their Chairman or his political ties to Ed Pawlowski, made an outstanding attempt at distancing themselves from both. I agree Felton should be removed from his position for his unauthorized actions and I believe city council should suspend and lockout Ed Pawlowski from his office until there is a final resolution of his case. There is nothing in the Charter allowing them to do this, however, a case may be made for malfeasance in office. Let a court decide this and I doubt Pawlowski/McMahon would like a pre-trial to his own trial to occur.

  32. Similar to NH county D party..underlings acknowledge Muncy does not know wtf he is doing yet he remains at helm of titanic. He and Felton..two peas in a pod.

  33. Honestly Walt, stop playing the race card. This isn't about race this is about a chair that has been embarrassing the party, from the day he took office. I'm quite sure that if you resigned the party would be willing to have another African American who is more capable to handle the job than you are finish the Term

  34. I look forward to Mayor Nat Hyman getting the city back on track. That's where this is headed.
