Lamont McClure Gets No Response To His Debate Proposal

Lamont McClure, a Democrat, and John Brown, a Republican, are the only two candidates running for NorCo Exec. Last week, McClure suggested that he and Brown conduct one debate every month concerning county issues. While there are obviously political motivations, this is something that creates interest in local government. It's good for democracy. But McClure has received no answer, not even the courtesy of an acknowledgement.

This is what McClure tells me: "It's been a week, and we still have not heard from Mr. Brown on our proposal for 8 debates throughout Northampton County. We believe multiple debates are the best way for both sides to put their best foot forward and to call into question the proposals and positions with which we don't agree. We are on the one hand surprised Mr. Brown won't debate. We have made the very strong accusation that his Administration is corrupt, callous and crony-filled. He should want to tell the people, show the people, why we are wrong about that. Although, on the other hand, he doesn't have a great record on transparency.

"Which might be why he has yet to respond."

  1. Brown is the ultimate ostrich, but with his head buried in a body part, not sand. Maybe his Menza crony Cathy Allen can sub for him. She could explain how a totally unqualified, untalented person like herself deserved to be county administrator.

  2. Vote these incumbent bums out!

  3. This is just political theater at its worse.

  4. Typical NORCO non-transparent Brown/Allen response. Ignore it and maybe it will go away. If I was Brown I'd run too. He has nothing to be proud about, so therefore, what is to debate. Run this Auditor General wannabe out along with his cronies on council on election day.

  5. LOL is anyone surprised? I agree with the statement "Vote these bums out!"

  6. JB has nowhere to hang his hat. What's to be proud of? He is DOA. Lamont should be able to cakewalk to the exec. offices of this county without breaking a sweat.

  7. McCluless, I'm the county exec and you're not, piss off!

  8. @9:10 am aka Brownstain:

Thanks for keeping my seat warm. You will need those synergies and efficiencies to pack your shit in a few months.

  9. Why would Brown waste his time debating Lamont. Chances are he wouldn't show. Check his attendance record.

  10. Lamont: Mommy! Bad Mr. Brown won't do as I demand! Wahwahwah.

Brown should schedule all eight debates. I'll bet Lamont actually shows up for one or two of them. His attendance record was atrocious. He misrepresented himself as willing to be a public servant and do his job. He should repay the $9,500 per year he took from taxpayers. I'd make this reimbursement a prerequisite to a debate. Brown shouldn't have to accommodate well-heeled deadbeats' demands.

  11. I agree with you 1000%, Bernie. Brown has no interest in open government or open politics.

  12. Brown is clueless w/o Allen at his side to feed him what to say. The guy is not able to stand on his own two feet. Lucky if you get one debate let alone one a month.

  13. Brown won't reply. To actually answer for all his BS? I wonder if he knows how much his choice of Allen has cost him in votes.

  14. As of today Brown would probably win the election despite all the yelling. Democrats stay home Republicans vote and do not vote for Democrats.

  15. I would have to give the edge to Brown today myself. The county has turned red and the cities do not help with their lackluster general turnouts.

  16. I do not care for either of our choices; deja vu 2016. However, among the Council and Exec seats I know I will definitely be splitting my ticket. None the less, I agree with comment above about this being "political theater." No matter the level of government, an incumbent (especially one who knows--whether you like or not--they have the upper hand with projected voter turnout) has absolutely no incentive to agree to multiple debates. They can't avoid altogether, but they'll try to minimize, and time them in optimal windows. Second, it screams underdog to be demanding multiple debates (and then publicly crying about a lack of response one week later) with the other party before the primaries have even occurred. It just reinforces my first sentence.

  17. I would say same, however the damage that Brown has done to County employees will
Speak volumes to who goes and votes in a non presidential election year. Brown's hiring of cronies, giving obscene raises and starting salaries to cabinet and admin staff, crushing the workers with insurance, as well as lack of transparency will sink his ship. And then even after all that, he aligns with Cusick regarding pension cuts. Political suicide

  18. Most people will commend Brown for sticking it to the county worker. McClure will not win on that issue. But I would think that any Exec who posts armed guards at news conferences and who spends a year running for another office deserves a hard look. I do think that Brown is ahead, and will likely be re-elected unless Democrats come out and vote, something they don't do in off-year elections. McClure has to give them a reason to come out, and I am sure he will have a few ideas. This is his kind of race. .

  19. I wonder if the slate of Democrats running with McClure help or harm him? Should be interesting.

  20. This is like the Trump/Hillary race. Brown has some rabid supporters. But most of his votes will come from people who vomit at the thought of voting for a serially dishonest ambulance chaser who only occasionally showed up for work. It's another lesser-of-two-evils decision. If Democrats ran anyone else, they'd probably win. If Republicans ran anybody else against McClure, they'd win by a much larger margin than Brown will.

  21. 6:52. A serially dishonest ambulance chaser? Where do you get your information, and why, when you slander someone that you obviously don't know a thing about, you do it anonymously?
