Fed Ed Seeking More Campaign Contributions

Notwithstanding an imminent criminal indictment for political corruption directly related to his campaign fundraising, Allentown Mayor Edwin "Fed Ed" Pawlowski is dunning his few remaining supporters for campaign money. Believe it or not, he claims to want to run for a fourth term. I think the real reason he is asking people for $500 a head is so he can pay for criminal defense lawyer Jack McMahon.

  1. Given the fact that much of the electorate receives some sort of government assistance and much of Ed's support comes from the various minorities that when combined, form a majority voting block in Allentown, it's not surprising that Ed wants a fifth consecutive term as mayor.

Unless something actually happens in the U.S. Attorney's office and some actual indictments are issued against Ed, there is little doubt at this point in time that he will run, and use the inherent power of his incumbency to win the Democratic nomination for mayor.

The Democratic primary these days is the de-facto general election in Allentown. After all, what else is he going to do?

  2. At the most he's crooked. At the least he's stupid if as he claims all his close allies were participating in this scheme without his knowledge. Take a bow and move on Ed.

Same thing in Bethlehem. However, your Mayor Pawlowski seems a lot better than Sam Bennett. Now that shows what bad shape you folks are in.

  4. The question is which comes first, the primary elections or the FBI, this time for a perp walk?

  5. 4:02 I'd wager that Roy Afflerbach would be a better choice than Sam Bennett. Most the Republicans have moved out of the city unfortunately, so Allentown has to scrape the bottom of the barrel to run an opposition slate to the Democrats.

You're correct Bernie, it is four terms Ed has been in office. Forever and a day seems longer than three terms. Talk about wearing out your welcome.

  6. @4:51 the bottom of the barrel - Is that where they got Thiel? He couldn't even do his job on the school board....speaking of jobs - does he even have one?

  8. Couldn't help but notice FedEd make an appearance on the mcall's Nightcrawler's New Year Eve sitting behind a set of drums. Did he have a hat out for donations too?

  9. Ladies & Gentleman, we are truly witnessing an individual who is experiencing a real life psychosis time of his life and he's the only one who thinks he did no wrong.

  11. 8:59 Ed grew up under Mayor Dayley. He believes that Allentown should be run the way Mayor Dayley did it in Chicago. Indictments and accusations of political malfeasance are all part of the normal operation of Chicago Municipal Government.

Ed simply doesn't know any better. He's not from here anyway. This was supposed to be a stepping stone to the governorship or a seat in the Senate. Perhaps even the presidency.

  12. 10:21 Just looked at it. Yup, he's running. "Results, Responsibility, Vision"

"Roll up your sleeves with me and help to re-elect me as Mayor, so we can continue, as we have done the last seven years, to continue to move forward together as one city."

  13. All Allentown needs is an electoral college.

  14. Just wish the feds would hurry up already so he can request his cellmate be Rod Blagojevich.

  15. Thiel is the real deal

  16. I might consider Thiel except I'm not sure what good he's done on the school board. I mean ASD is a little bit of a mess. I think Bennett is the better bet.

Edward R. Murrow and Clarence Darrow rolled together with peanuts and corn.

  18. 11:28 it would be an interesting concept if a system would be worked out for citywide offices to be decided by "electors" of each ward. Although the results would likely be the same as it is now by popular vote totals.

With realtors (in the club) and on board, along with the now ability to easily determine a particular voters persuasion. I think within a generation a polarity could be attained making it possible to flip the popular vote.

It works nationwide, no reason it could not work locally.

Just show people a map with large areas where few people live and say, "look my guy won all that space". the news and blogs will go with it and your off to the races.

  20. I love that the electoral college still hurts for some. It's time to moveon. Perhaps Fed Ed should run for president.

  21. I have to say that I do hope Republicans have a good candidate because it would be nice to see a Great turn out during this Mayor Election. BUT, so far the only strong Candidate for the Mayor seat is Sam Bennett. Thiel doesn't even come close cause he can't even commit to his Republican party let alone commit to Completing a full term as a school board member. I've been following Sam Bennett and she has shown commitment to her party, business, family and Allentown. I feel bad for Ed, but his time is up. Thiel, needs to put some time in and gain experience in something other than his need for some political seat...finish one before you start another one. Just saying!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why cant the FBI just get it over with... Ed has no power do get anything done. the city
needs to move on and get out from under the FEDED cloud.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @ 5:02 am... Thiel came from Ed's camp. His campaign was funded by Ed's PAC and we all know where Ed's money came from. Therefore, his following his funder's foot steps...I'm school board, Nope...I want to be Mayor, but better yet IF he becomes Mayor I can assure you that he'll run for Governor. LOL :)

  24. Any R thinking of running for mayor of one-party Allentown would be better served by lighting dollar bills on file while waiting for a table at Allentown Shula's and being serenaded by the disruptive singer guy.

  26. anonymous said@10:21,11:11, the website to which you refer was his site for his current or third term, although the links to city web pages currently are updated, the home and about pages were written before the arena was constructed.

  27. 2:45 The U. S. Attorney would draw up the indictment and the Marshall's service would serve Ed with it. That would spell out the charges he's facing. The FBI is the investigating agency who works for the Federal Attorney.

The Feds likely have evidence against him, based on the news reports we've read. Also Bernie has hinted there possibly maybe more evidence. The reason there may not be any indictment is that the U S Attorney may not believe the evidence gathered would not be enough to convince him.

Don't wound the king; you've got to kill him. A wounded king Ed is dangerous and would be a huge harassment to the Justice Department.

As MM correctly observes, this is NOT NEW. Take a look at the email contact - "mike@allentownmayor.com - That's the Fleckster.

  29. 12:26 surely you jest. Sam Bennett a better bet? She is a first rate hustler who runs for office, raises lots of money, but never wins. She used her unsuccessful $2 million campaign for Congress to hustle herself a Washington DC gig, got her mug on TV a lot and was then run out of town when the DC folks she hustled realized she was a total fraud and only using her position in the organization to promote herself and build up her contacts for future political campaigns. Now she is back in Allentown "working" at renting out rooms in her house ("The Historic Benner Mansion"-- typical hyperbole) and running for mayor -- for the third time.

    ReplyDelete
  30. One of the good reasons I heard for Ed NOT RUNNING is that his wife LISA wants to get the family out of the firing line. If he is ignoring her on that note, God knows how crazy things might get.

  31. I was honored after an extensive national search to serve for five years (2009 - 2014) as CEO in Washington DC of the oldest organization that financially support women when they run for office - WCF and She Should Run. After my 2008 run for U.S. Congress where my campaign staff/volunteers and I were among the most endorsed challenger races in the nation, earning record numbers of votes and raising one of highest amounts of funds - critical benchmarks for success on the national stage.

As CEO, I donated my lists to the organization not conversely, and with my exceptional team, year after year raised record funds, earned exceptional media attention for the organization's important work including serving as a regular on FOX's Megyn Kelly's show and ongoing as an expert on PBS, Canadian Broadcasting etc.

Our home, The Historic Benner Mansion, is Allentown's first and still only Bed and Breakfast earning high rankings from the close to 1000 guests from 36 states and 6 countries who have stayed with us since 2008. We are honored to be a regular location for NBC's Dateline with Keith Morrison, host to PPL, Caron Foundation, Muhlenberg College events and an increasing number of wedding ceremonies and receptions.

When we discovered Allentown, despite being the third largest city in PA - unlike Bethlehem and Easton - had NO B&B's. "A city with ONE bed and breakfast sends a very different signal than a city with NO bed and breakfast" our family decided to have The Historic Benner Mansion be one of our contribution's to our hometown's renaissance.

  32. Five years commuting to DC each week from Allentown - and running the B&B on the weekends - was a tall order! But The Historic Benner Mansion continues to be extremely gratifying for myself and my family: sharing was we love about Allentown with our growing numbers of guests each year - is extremely rewarding!

  33. I just started deleted a disgusting anonymous personal attack aimed at Sam Bennett. Also, to Sam, you should feel no obligation to defend yourself against slurs from people who won't say who they are. you are one of several good candidates who are running for this seat, and as I said before, you all bring something to the table.

  37. anonymous@6:42, the current date is provided by the internet host company. the event calendar is a link to the city web site. if you still think that it's a current website for a new campaign, why don't you use the question box there, and ask pawlowski instead of bernie? of course then you wouldn't be so anonymous, but.....

  39. Bernie,
I think I redd that current mayor was hitting the sticks New Years eve downtown, there is one question to that, was his coconspieritors of church on the runs quire singing prasies of glory to king and there Z lordZ to bring in the new year there too?
I haven't redd a stray bullet falling from the sky and hitting someone in the foot like when his original college electorial vote permotor was here in existance! Will this same campaign contributor and donor reciepiant be the kings advertiZmentalist for this term too? I see the king has chosen a new college to do counsil powerpoint presentations that just so happen to come from bedlum, there is something wrong with this picture.

  40. Thanks Bernie. Appreciated by me and any other candidate who might experience similar baseless attack. As the late great Republican US Senator from Maine Margaret Chase said "Smears are to be expected and fought. Honor is to be earned - not bought".

  41. Ms Bennett. I can concur completely with your grueling travel schedule. For over two decades as an independent consultant, I racked up nearly 100,000 air miles each year. Flying these days is like taking the Greyhound Bus in the 1970s, before dealing with the TSA.

Perhaps to lessen the burden on you and your family, you should consider moving to the Washington D.C. area and moving on with your career. It would be appreciated by legions of Allentown voters that you go somewhere else. We don't want you as Mayor, as we've had over a decade of Mayor Pawlowski's rule and enough, frankly is enough.

Best of fortune to you in your career. Just pursue it elsewhere and enjoy your fond memories of living in Allentown. After Pawlowski, we prefer a native as well with roots in our historic city, not a transplant carpetbagger like Ed.

  44. I must admit I did have a few reservations about Charlie Thiel, his connection to Fed Ed, his party switching, the "Jesus thing", but now that I see Ms. Mann is connected to his campaign those reservations have disappeared.
    Mr. Thiel is categorically unacceptable.

  45. Didn't Mr. Thiel team up with Fed-Ed to sell The City surveillance cameras

  49. Bernie, your familiar with how it works when deals are reached with prosecutors is it possible that Ed is setting himself up with leverage. Suppose he goes thru the motions for another run then once started offers to stop as an offer to the feds to satisfy their purpose. Like throwing red meat to a lion. He kinda pays a price and the feds look like their minding the mint.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thiel left his position to concentrate on running for mayor. Not everyone can do that but it is certainly a respectable move for someone who is in a position to do so.
