At yesterday's presentation concerning a new jail, which will almost certainly be located at the Gracedale campus, Bob "Pollyanna" Werner seemed to think Nazareth residents will welcome it with open arms if only it is marketed properly. He hinted officials are already on board. That won't last long. But there are some ways to market it that might work.
First, call it the "Future Mayor Academy."
Second, install poker machines and hire Carl Strye and Larry Stoudt as stewards.
Third, hire Nazareth Ambulance to transport prisoners, since most of them are mentally ill anyway.
Fourth, a CIPP grant for the legion.
Fifth, have all Council members join every club.
Finally, build a wall around Nazareth Borough, and make Lower Nazareth pay for it.

This is once again all about your hate. You hate Panto and his commuter tax so you want the jail out of Easton to deny him those employee taxes. You also hate Nazareth officials so you want the jail there just for spite. You are as transparent as Saran wrap.

No, the county will not be building a prison n Nazareth. Anything done will be done on site. Fortunately policy makers are not guided by your neurosis.

Lovely, a prison in Nazareth near 2 housing developments. Wonder what value those homes will have if prison is built. I'm sure Bangor has some open space and it'll be convenient walk/drive for Cathy A and would improve real-estate values in Bangor.

Here's a new idea. Get a grant from the state and Sell the development rights at Gracedale and have the County pocket the money and put it towards a new jail. Another idea is instead of capping off these landfills in the County, build a jail on top of the landfill (kinda like the ole Love Canal).
ReplyDeleteThe County better do a study on the overall operation before moving ahead. The Courts and all the court facilities are in Easton. Now we are going to house prisoners away from the site and transport prisoners back and forth to court. Additional personnel, buses and a holding facility in Easton? The ideal solution was missed by the previous County Executives and the Judges. (but they didn't care about anyone but themselves), That would have been to tear down the prison, construct a new addition to the Court House for Courtrooms, tear down the parking garage and construct a multi level prison on that site (like Lehigh County did in Allentown), and build a new parking garage where we now have vast parking areas adjacent to the Court House. Naw....that's too easy of a solution. Let's go out and screw over the population and build prisons where no one wants them and anger thousands of taxpayers. Get one thing straight, this project will cost at least one hundred million dollars and up, so pucker up your assholes because the "royal shaft is a coming". Did you know that a "guard" at a prison including Northampton County will cost the taxpayer more than two million dollars over his employment with the County? If a new prison were to be built, the county would construct a more efficient operational facility cutting back on costs that would pay for itself over thirty to forty years. Naw, that makes too much sense, instead, pucker up the ole asshole.

I frankly don't care where the jail goes, and this blog was a bit of humor, something that tends to elude people who are full of hatred. I view Keen's presentation as a call to make changes, but it is entirely possible that there will be no move to Nazareth.

The mine holes are a good empty space instead of filling with sludge from the tristate area it would be fitting that we fill the with the defectors like Castro dumped upon America when emptying his prisons? This is all part of the carnival that is the democratical shitstew served to the public as progress!

ReplyDeleteA location other than Easton will incur major transportation issues getting inmates to and from court proceedings. Not a fan of the Panto tax grab but it looms large going forward. Perhaps out of town but not on Gracedale land is an option. It will gobble up tax revenue wherever it goes so location is critical. Current site still an option if you demolish the old jail and build on that plot. W. Easton also can be expanded slightly to ease population issues or become the womens jail. Just some ideas to consider.
ReplyDeleteThere are no major transportation issues. There will always be a facility next to the courts in which to house inmates being taken in, released, or going to trial. Courts are making more and more use of remote video as well, at least for minor matters like nonsupport. The Reibman plan envisaged a giant building. Not sure how that would fly given that the campus already sits atop a hill. Stoffa had six options. One was to relocate all county offices at Gracedale, leaving the courthouse to the judges and freeing up a little room for a jail expansion. Cost is what kills this. It will be more expensive than anything the county has ever done. It is one reason why Stoffa wanted to sell Gracedale. Nursing care for seniors may be a moral obligation, but is not a core county service. Housing inmates is.
