Opinions Online, 5/21/16

Blogger's Note: Opinions Online is a regular Saturday feature. If you'd like to express your opinion on any topic, click on the Opinions Online button on my left sidebar. You can also call 385-325-2564. In addition to these submissions, I sometimes highlight comments from throughout the week and re-publish them here. Please keep your comments brief, if possible.

2 new area Walmarts opening, more Corporate and personal welfare, plus now legally lot's of their profits go untaxed in foreign accounts.

Blogger's Note: This is thekind of comment I don't like. It says nothing about where these local WalMarts are, makes generalizations, and there is no local context. I don't want AM talk radio. I want comments about what is going on in your community that you like or do not like. I will publish anything, but really want a Lehigh Valley flavor.

**********

I got to see Mayor Sticky Fingers today. I am not suggesting that he should go into the witness protection program, but he should keep a lower profile.

Instead, he had the audacity to talk about his recent vacation and when someone said they just returned from New Orleans, numnutz said "Oh yeah, I've been there three times."

Yeah, on whose dime?

**********

Staff at the local Express-Times must be decimated. They haven't updated their online news account of the deeds transfers in over two months. I am so glad that I don't purchase that rag anymore.

  1. Concerning the Allentown FBI investigation, some questions.

First, is everyone called in for an interview required to be subpoenaed, and are those names required to be posted for public view? In the beginning of all this, we saw lists published in the newspaper. That seems to have stopped, yet time passes by. Might other persons, unannounced, have been called in for questioning?

Second, with the FBI involved, does it mean potential charges to be filed will NOT be civil charges? If I understand correctly, civil charges have statutes of limitation, some as brief as 4 years. Is there any urgency to file before a certain date?

Finally, if Pawlowski blows through his campaign funds prior to any charges, if actual charges do occur, does he defend himself with his own funds?

  2. Actually, that first item sounds more like MSNBC than AM radio.

  3. The gunman shot outside the White House is identified as Jesse Olivieri of Butler Township, Schuylkill County. In other words, he's from Pennsyltuky. Did you know that Schuylkill County doesn't recognize Martin Luther King Day as an official holiday?

  4. Did you know Northampton County did not recognize MLK day until 1998? Only the practical and decent though much maligned Glenn Reibman had the good sense to make that change. Hartzell, Seyfried and Brackbil did not.

  6. @6:20AM The FBI doesn't need a subpoena to interview people. I believe it is standard to subpoena people who testify before a federal grand jury - I did that once voluntarily, but they sent me a subpoena as a routine matter.

  7. 11:06, I was a critic of Glenn Reibman, but am not going to allow your ugly anonymous personal attack. He was Executive for years, a member of Council, has devoted much of his life to public service, and he has always dealt with me with honor and integrity, even when we were in court.

  8. 9:45, Glenn Reibman can take credit. It never really was much of a holiday during the time of Gene Hartzell or Jerry. It has grown in significance, and Glenn was actually ahead of the curve on that call.

  9. Actually it was very much a holiday during Hartzel (1982-89) amd Seyfriend 90-93. It was signed into law in 1983 and made effective 1986. It took Northampton County 12 years to do what Lehigh, Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware Counties had previously done. Moreover, it was done with little media attention just done and done right...However, you are right Glenn--for all his shortcomings--was always a gentleman.

  10. Express-Times staff is decimated. Not reflected on their contact list but photographer Matt Smith and sportswriter Tom Hinkel both left in recent months although Smith is still doing work for them as a stringer.

Also, editor Jim Deegan has experienced some health issues. Being captain of that sinking ship must be stressful.

  11. It is obvious that Obama is not "normal." But his abnormalities may go way beyond what is common knowledge. There is a strong suspicion in some quarters, as indicated by the late Joan Rivers, that Obama's "wife," Michelle, is a man. As Clint Eastwood said: Obama is the greatest fraud ever perpetrated on the American people. In truth, Obama's birth certificate is highly suspicious as well.

This all sounds "crazy" but then, just look at Bruce Jenner, who won the Decathlon, and realize it is a wild and crazy world.

  14. "This all sounds "crazy"

It doesn't just sound crazy. It is. It sounds like an excuse for taking a shot at a black woman to me,and a terribly ignorant thing to say. Also, Not for nothing, but there are many among us (including me) who consider Michelle Obama very attractive. Leave her and the Obama children out of your bigoted hate, please.

  15. Don't be sorry, Harry. I get bitchy at times. Opinions Online is for you, not me. I prefer the local stuff, especially in areas I don't cover. But this feature is for anything.

  16. "This all sounds "crazy" but then,"

Yes, yes you do. You sound very crazy!

  17. The Clintons are ignorant, viscous, cruel. Donald Trump will have performed a great service for humanity if he hounds the Clintons from public life.

The Clintons deserve no kindness, no compassion, no respect. Here's hoping Trump uses the most shocking plain words to describe in no uncertain terms precisely who & what the Clintons are.

  18. Also, Hillary Clinton claims she is pro-woman and is playing her "Woman's Card". While the reality is that Hillary covered up her "husbands" rape and other various assaults. She covered up crimes and was an accessory after the fact. Hillary Clinton was actively engaged in covering up and threatening his victims.

As an attorney she actively engaged in the obstruction of justice and had a duty to report his criminal activity. Bill Clinton is an unconvicted felon and the two of them should have been disbarred for life. The time for mincing words is long past. He is a serial predator and she is the predator's accomplice.

  19. I believe the comments at 6:17 and 6:21 were posted by an instigator for the express purpose of getting a rise out of people. I know some people who do this sort of thing and justify their dishonesty with an "ends justify the means" argument.

  20. The Washington Post/ABC poll released Saturday night shows that Trump is now favored by 46 percent among registered voters, with Clinton at 44 percent.

That marks an eleven-point shift towards Trump since the same poll conducted in March. Clinton is down five points among registered voters while Trump is up six.

  21. Actually the only candidate that would easily win this Fall would be Bernie Sanders.

  22. "I believe the comments at 6:17 and 6:21 were posted by an instigator . . ."

Might be an instigator, but 6:17 / 6:21 is spot on! Hillary and Bill need to be in jail, not in a Presidential campaign. The sooner she accepts her place in society as a social pariah the better. And she should take Bill with her. Maybe she will take you too Bernie.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The instigator has marginalized himself again.

He accuses people of posting anonymously. But he himself cannot even own up to his own hatred for whatever reason. Who else would write stuff like this and anonymously too:

    "Harry J Shelhamer
Can't trust this judicial terrorist. She's beholden to judge platt, steinbereg, and the DA's office. They need more defense than snuka needs and judge banach is providing the public with a dog and pony show to see to it that her friends mentioned above won't have to answer for taking hush money from snukas manager. If Banach was worth her salt she would issue an arrest warrant for the notoriously corrupt William Platt (judge). If Nancy was my daughter there would be no trial. At least not for Snuka, Platt and the other dirt bugs involved in covering up her vicious and brutal murder. Your not untouchable.."

Not Harry J. Shelhamer, that is.

  24. 6:17: I'm counting on Trump's using a lot of "plain language" on the "woman card" as wwll as his other faux issues. That will serve as a constant reminder to voters of Trump's juvenile rhetoric and deep character fkaws.

Banach is in charge so Platt and others complicit in the case are safe from any retribution. Kelly is on the job! (as if she didn't know the story long before it broke.) Kelly korruption..."The Banach Bone"

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
