The county's ranks of registered Democrats grew from 92,453 on Oct. 28, 2015, just before the most-recent general election, to 93,551 as of Wednesday, according to Northampton County Voter Registration. That's an addition of 1,098 Democrats, or a growth rate of 1.2 percent. This is why those who say this is a Democratic year in Pa are completely off the reservation. Increases in Republican ranks have previously been noted in three Pa. counties. Earlier thia month, I said it was too early to call it a trend.
Republicans more than doubled the growth rate of Democrats in Northampton County, going from 64,842 to 66,959 over that span. That's 2,117 more Republicans eligible to vote in the primary, or 3.3 percent more than last fall.
I think it's a trend now.
The last day on which you can register or change your registration, prior to the primary, is March 28. The last day on which you can apply for an absentee ballot is April 19.
Facebook is on fire with Jim Bob Gregory. he is spurring Republican registration with hints that he will run for Mayor in Bethlehem as a Republican. Now that would be a coup!
ReplyDeletegregory couldn't make assistant deputy dog catcher in Palm. But a republican will replace the one term puppet as mayor.

ReplyDeletePennsylvania is an interesting Political State. On the one side of the State, you have the Democrats in The Pittsburgh area. One the other side of the State, you have the Democrats in the Philadelphia region.
...and in the middle of the State...well, you've got Alabama. Yee-Haw!
Actually Gary, it is North Alabama.
ReplyDelete"Facebook is on fire with Jim Bob Gregory."
ReplyDeleteIf he stays away from Mezzacappa, he increases his odds of staying out of jail. I understand he made the mistake of staying at her West Easton residence, but she eventually snapped at him and kicked him out. I don't care what he does - including running for Mayor as an R - so long as he keeps his nose clean.
Let me add that this post has nothing to do with him.
The tripod had a short leg?
ReplyDeleteI figured Gregory was living in this area when I saw that new dumpster parked down there on Ridge Street.
ReplyDeleteheard JG tried, or did, made off with hers guns and ammo.
ReplyDeleteBernie, something like 54 of the PA's 71 GOP delegates are actually not committed to any candidate on the ballot, nor to the plurality winner of the remaining 3-man presidential contest. On the state site, I was able to copy, paste, and print out the 11 would be delegates from my Congressional district. I have to pick 3. My question is, realizing they can technically change, how can one find out which presidential candidate they would like to support? If approx 3/4 of the delegates are not selected as these uncommitted district delegates, the "winner" of PA's GOP primary, could actually be a "loser" in the delegate math. Essentially for 3/4 of the delegates, primary voters are being asked to vote blind.
ReplyDeleteWe certainly have a rather byzantine way of selecting the "leader of the free world," with each state, and each party within those states, having their own rules.
Typo. Should read: If approx 3/4 of the delegates are selected as these uncommitted district delegates, the "winner" of PA's GOP primary, could actually be a "loser" in the delegate math. Essentially for 3/4 of the delegates, primary voters are being asked to vote blind.
ReplyDeleteThese could very easily be people who just registered to vote in the GOP primary. Turnout for the Republican primaries this year has generally been higher than Democratic turnout in the states that have already voted. It doesn't really mean anything for general election turnout. In fact, a lot of those new voters may be left-of-center, but registered R to vote against Trump.
ReplyDeleteApparently he and Schlener are hanging out together, Bernie. I hope you are right and he stays out of trouble.
ReplyDeleteLoved the picture of him behind a chair pretending to be behind bars, yikes!lol
ReplyDeleteGregory, stop posting here. Stay off the blogs. Stay off Facebook. And stay away from cocktail waitresses at the Sands.
ReplyDeleteIs there any source available as to who uncommitted delegates to the conventions support? Besides eeny, meeny, miny, moe, I think this is a pretty important question. Otherwise, what is the purpose of voting for any of them? Why should anyone bother with the GOP primary?? So much is being made about the rise in GOP registration, but whether they are registering/changing registration to vote for or against Trump (Trump claims he's bringing many people to the party), the average Joe Schmoe actually knows nothing of who the majority of delegates would actually support at the convention.
ReplyDeleteFrom Ballotpedia: "Pennsylvania is expected to have 71 delegates at the 2016 Republican National Convention. Of this total, 54 will be district-level delegates (three for each of the state's 18 congressional districts). According to the Republican National Committee, Pennsylvania's district delegates will be "elected on the primary ballot as officially unbound," meaning that these delegates will not be required to pledge their support to the winner of the state's primary."
Again, I know who the 11 potential delegates are for my congressional district, but I only know who 1 supports. As I said before, If approx 3/4 of the delegates are selected as these uncommitted district delegates, the "winner" of PA's GOP primary, could actually be a "loser" in the delegate math. Essentially for 3/4 of the delegates, primary voters are being asked to vote blind.
I'm working on getting a break down.
ReplyDeleteThis is a mockery of the primary process. The night of the PA primary, the national media will be saying that "Donald Trump", "Ted Cruz", or "John Kasich" won PA. But DID THEY? It won't be all 71 delegates going to candidate "x". They delegate math may actually end up quite different at the actual convention.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I just saw your reply.
ReplyDeleteBernie, you will not get a breakdown of who the delegate candidates support, both because most of them have not said, and because they are uncommitted and able to be free agents in any event. That makes PA the most powerful state in the nation in a brokered convention, should that happen. Vote for those whose judgment you trust most, which incidentally is probably the best and least polarizing way to select any public official.
ReplyDeleteUnderstood as to the ability to be uncommitted, in principle. None-the-less, they have preferences. In the 17th Congressional district, only 1 of the 11 come from this side of Blue Mountain. 6 are from Schuykill County, 2 from Monroe, and 2 from Luzerne. The fact that 5 are females, and 6 are males is the only factual thing known about them. So, how would one assess "whose judgment (I) trust most”?? With the exception of the sole Northampton County delegate candidate, they are mere names. 75% of the delegates are not guided/committed by the voters' preference. We don't know, in a brokered convention, are they going to be pragmatists looking for the so-called "electability"? Are they rigid ideologues? Are they "establishment"? "Anti-establisment?" eeny, meeny, miney, moe, is a heck of way to select the 75% of PA's GOP delegates to pick the next potential president. Where is the wisdom in that?
ReplyDeleteNames on the ballot will be: Robert Ames (Coaldale); Lynette Villano (West Pittston); Ron Bolt (Pine Grove Township); Mary Beth Dougherty (Girardville); Charlie Kirkwood (Smithfield Twp); George Halcovage (Pottsville); Gloria Lee Snover (Bethlehem Twp); George Blauer (Wilkes Barre); Carolyn Bonkoski (West Brunswick); Theresa Gaffney (Wayne Twp); Thomas Whitehead (Tunkhannock Twp). How do I assess their judgment?

5 buffoons for Trump already ... arg

■ Lynette Villano, West Pittston: Trump

■ Mary Beth Dougherty, Girardville, Schuylkill County: No response.
■ Charlie Kirkwood, Smithfield Township, Monroe County: Could not be reached.
■ George F. Halcovage, Pottsville, Schuylkill County: Will support the district’s top vote-getter on the first ballot.

ReplyDeleteDon't let them suppress my vote!
Well, you and I have little in common, but I believe your vote matters, no matter what it is.
