Lindy Li Claims Nomination Petition Challenged
We learned today that my opponent will challenge our petition signatures in a desperate attempt to prevent a primary election on Tuesday, April 26th. Our team filed 100 more signatures than he did.
It's becoming increasingly clear that my opponent doesn't want this campaign to be focused on you and the issues facing Americans everyday. Pennsylvania residents are saddled with student loan debt, concerned about national security, and disappointed with our elected officials in Washington. If the only thing that he is focused on is kicking me off the ballot, then I seriously doubt his commitment to the citizens of the 6th district. Instead of engaging in a battle of ideas, he's retreating to lawsuits. Is he afraid to allow the people to decide?
There are many ways to win elections, and the approach a candidate takes reveals a lot about his or her character. Please walk with us as we fight this legal challenge.
Lindy is a tad left of me politically, but I admire her enthusiasm and hope she prevails in this nomination challenge. A few years ago, Rick Orloski said, "People should decide elections, not judges." I agree, and unless her mistakes are blatant, would hope this fresh new voice remains.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
This is a funny race to begin with. Li spent the better part of 2015 running for the 7th Congressional District, after she announced in late spring. Then, sometime in December(after Pa Society), she decided to run for the 6th District, without a formal announcement of the change.

The 6th and 7th are 2 of the most gerrymandered districts in the country. Who can blame her for being confused? Look at the map of this districts. http://www.politicspa.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/pennsylvania-congressional-districts.jpg
Yeah, I was not very cool with her making the decision to switch as a result of what the Kingmakers told her at Pa. Society in New York. But I'm glad she did. She would never beat Pat Meehan, who is doing a good job. In the 6th, she has a shot.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know that she is left of you? If you ask any of the SE PA Dems to speak on a single issue, you find that they have very little to say. There is little discussion about issues because your candidates cannot speak competently. It is time for you, as voters, to demand specific answers.

ReplyDeleteThen why bother to have petitions to begin with? Should the signatures of people who are not registered to vote count? People from outside the district? Registered Republicans and independents?
There is a reason for these rules, you are correct. But the overriding presumption should be in favor of ballot access. For example, a failure to file a statement of financial interests with the ethics commission should not be fatal if it is an error that can be corrected.
