Green Pond Marsh Developer Withdraws Waiver and Deferral Requests ... For Now

Traditions of America, the developer proposing an active senior community next to an Audubon-designated Important Bird Area known as Green Pond Marsh, has temporarily withdrawn its request for Township approval of waivers and deferrals. That announcement was made at the February 22 Bethlehem Township Planning Commission meeting. It is still moving ahead with development, but advised the township that it is engineering a formal plan to replace a sketch plan currently under consideration. Township Commissioners had been scheduled to vote on these waivers and deferrals on February 15, but its meeting was canceled as a result of an icestorm.

  2. Green Pond is supposedly a magical place which is why it miraculously
survived to the present day. There are other places like it somewhere close to here that can take its place for the few remaining tree huggers aren't there?Nobody really misses those wildlife sanctuaries once they are eliminated so we might as well get along with the upgrading of the area. Twenty years from now nobody will even remember all of this hoopla over a few species of birds.
I remember that 30 ago you could get off at the 191 exit for Bethlehem and travel south all the way to Washington Ave before you came to a light. Now there are 7 lights over that same stretch. That is progress and Bethlehem township is showing the same entrepreneurial spirit that made Bethlehem such a great place to develop in the recent past.

    1. It's nice to see that Traditions of America employees and supporters are finally reading Bernie's blog. You may learn more than you've bargained for. You also may not realized it just yet, but you too will miss wildlife sanctuaries one day when you feel the effects of the loss in a very real biologic sense. I love chilled chardonnay, social rooms, and granite counter tops as much as the next person, but TOA has missed the boat on this one.

“There are other places like it somewhere close to here that can take its place”
You are incorrect - there are no other places like it close to here.

To be more accurate, you should change your sentence from
“Nobody really misses those wildlife sanctuaries once they are eliminated”
    to
“myself and the few uncaring, shortsighted, people like me won’t miss those wildlife sanctuaries once they are eliminated”.

You say, referring to Green Pond Marsh“...nobody will even remember all of this hoopla over a few species of birds.”
Over 180 species of birds is quite a bit more than “a few”.

“Bethlehem township is showing the same entrepreneurial spirit that made Bethlehem such a great place to develop in the recent past.”
Entrepreneurial? Are you deluded? Bethlehem Township can’t see the value of saving a unique place such as Green Pond Marsh from development and that’s “entrepreneurial”? What makes a place “great”, is the way it is developed, not that is it “a great place to develop”.

  4. Correction to typo in last sentence:
“Bethlehem township is showing the same entrepreneurial spirit that made Bethlehem such a great place to develop in the recent past.”
Entrepreneurial? Are you deluded? Bethlehem Township can’t see the value of saving a unique place such as Green Pond Marsh from development and that’s “entrepreneurial”? What makes a place “great”, is the way it is developed, not that it is “a great place to develop”.

  5. Traffic congestion and a little bit of runoff is a small price to pay for progress.
The Twp. is a little bit of heaven on earth.
