The Kane Mutiny - They're Out to Get Me

Attorney General Kathleen Kane met the press today concerning the criminal charges leveled against her. Her presser, as reporters call them, was billed as a no-holds barred news conference in which Attorney General Kathleen Kane would answer any and all of the accusations leveled at her. That prospect intrigued me enough to try to get there myself, although Kane's press agent never responded to my email. It would have been a waste of time. Not only did she refuse to take any questions, but she really provided no explanation for her own misconduct. She instead tried to point the finger at a conspiracy of judges and prosecutors who are out to get her because she exposed their exchange of naughty emails.

She denied that the investigation into her own misconduct has thrown her office off target.

"Pennsylvania is safer now than it has ever been," she insisted, with rants about a "stealth political weapon" and the danger of allowing politicians to choose the next Attorney General.

She wants everything halted until Judge William Carpenter, supervising grand jury judge, authorizes the release of naughty emails.

With her voice cracking, she complained that her sons found out about the charges on television.

She is clearly unhinged and really needs to resign.

Northampton County DA John Morganelli, who is considering a run for the office himself, offers this reaction:
"There was no point to this press conference. Nothing new. Quite frankly, even if all these people in OAG circulated such emails, I fail to see how this is relevant to the allegations that she lied in the grand jury, asked her employee to improperly access protected material, and leaked the Mondeshire grand jury material to the press. There is a huge disconnect there."
It is the kind of disconnect you see in people with emotional problems.

Updated 4:40 pm: The Morning Call's Bill White had a reaction, too. He must have run into Kane at Musikfest.

  1. You can bang on this all you want. You can hammer it more than the same story you repeat on big ED. That being said Morganelli cannot win statewide race.

  2. This story has nothing to do with who succeeds her, so your point is misplaced. Also, I am repeasting no Fed Ed stories.

  6. Yeah, that is why John Morganelli's quote is prominently featured. Oh Bernie, you are as easy to read as a large print book.

  10. PA is safe, just so safe, except for apolitical female Attorney Generals whose only goal is to protect the public. Many thanks to whoever the AG is.

Does anybody have JB Reilly's private number? Is he single?

  11. Is Kane's maiden name Mezzacappa?

  12. Looking at this from afar, I'd say some people are after her. Politics is dirty business and anyone who's sane stays away.

  13. I wasn't sure what to think about this case. So in times like these, I often go to your blog, see what Bernie thinks, and the opposite must be true. Bingo! My hunch was vindicated! They are out to get her!

Think about it. What harm came from the leak she provided in the case against her? In fact, she probably brought to light stuff that would have been forever buried. I thought you were in favor of Sunshine in Politics.

Betcha Republican Judge Carpenter doesn't give her permission to release the porn emails. Betcha more people want them released than not.

  14. She doesn't need his permission an could have released those emails on her own. She has not bc she realizes someone might just sue her, so she instead falsely suggested it was kiddie porn. I am sure there are embarrassing emails. I am just as sure that is tring to deflect attention away from her own misconduct.

  15. Yes, to avoid possible additional legal difficulties, she must be careful to avoid not violating a vaguely worded judicial order. So if there is nothing incriminating there, why doesn't the judge just say that she is free to release the emails without fear of penalty?

For God's sake, why does he need a written request? He has heard her unmistakable request during her address. He will get his formal written request. His day of reckoning can be delayed, but he cannot avoid it.

Misconduct? You did not address my inquiry about why the leak Ms. Kane made to the press caused any damage, and was not actually a good thing.

  16. There is no vaguely worded judicial order. She is free to do what she wants with information that is not grand jury material. As for your question concerning the judge, she attacked him but has never made a request outside of her rambling news conference. As the AG, she really should know that. Eventually, she will release them bc that's the only card she has left. While I am sure some of those emails may prove embarrassing to the persons who sent them, I would not put much weight in her descriptions of them. She's an accused liar and it has already been proven that she was untruthful or misleading when she insinuated some contained child porn.

Her attempted deflection will fail. It's irrelevant and does not constitute a defense.

By the way, it's hard for me to fathom a situation in which perjury and obstruction are good things. Attorneys general are sworn to enforce the law, not break it.

  17. OK, Bernie. After your anemic attempts to answer my questions, I know that, as expected, the truth is 180 degrees opposite of your attempted deflections. I would expect nothing more of you. Cheers!
