Ron Angle Withdraws From NorCo Controller Race

Former Northampton County Council member Ron Angle has filed papers to withdraw as the Republican nominee for Controller. In a phone interview, Angle told me his reasons were "personal."  If it were just him, I think he'd stay in the race. But I believe he pulled out to shield his family from the inevitable attacks that always seem to be directed at him.

At the moment, incumbent and Democratic nominee Steve Barron has no opponent. The county party hierarchy does have the authority to name a replacement. I am unaware if that has happened.

On a personal level, I am glad Ron has pulled out. I consider him a very close friend. I adore Ron's wife Sharon, who is as far from politics as you can get. And I really like his sons Max, a natural body builder who may soon be the first Angle to graduate from college, and Ron, Jr., who is battling an illness.

Contrary to Ron's popular image, he is one of the finest and most compassionate persons I've ever met. It always bothered me to see him attacked.

  2. Guess no choice but Teletubby Barron, which really is no choice at all. Too bad the party could not come up with a viable opponent. Your loyalty to Ron is admirable. He has been a despised, polarizing figure, but you have found enough positive qualities in his personality to warrant your devotion. Guess both of you are controversial, stick to your guns (in Ron's case no pun intended), but behind it all mean well.

  3. Ron's flaws are there for all to see, but few people really know him. I can't think of a finer person to have as a friend.

  4. The Big Fella exposes another flaw for all to see.
NEVER put you finger on the trigger of a weapon until the moment you are about to discharge that weapon.'
This serious breach of safety protocol says a lot about this guy.

  5. And your comment demonstrates exactly what I mean. Tgat crossbow (it was not a firearm) was completely inoperable at the time that Ron clownef around with it, not that you know or care.

  6. Barron is decent. On questioning last night by council on a possible audit exercise, Barron showed good knowledge of potential issues in the proposed exercise. I'd have no problem voting for him, as my second choice to the Bulldog or Rottweiler or whatever Ron is known as.

  7. I said weapon. I ment weapon.
    There are NO exceptions.

  8. Give me a break, you idiot. A pen knife is a weapon.

Ron reminds me so much of my late dad. He was a SOB, at times nasty to all in power in the township (NJ),pinched a penny so tight it squealed; but at the end: Left owing no one, no regrets, no angry voters, and made me ashamed to not be able to "be like him". Mr. Angle is a man who is rough, tough, and gruff; But he is a man who puts today's "men"wishing they could be just a little bit more "manly". Wish I knew him back when I was a young punk.

  10. The Republicans should appoint one James Gregory to knock off the Baronmeister?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Gregory will most likely return to this area long enough to say hi and bye. He has burned all his political contacts, disgraced his reputation, and will most likely go somewhere else and become an actual contributor to society, saying 'don't be like me'. Hahaha. It's Friday bitches, I'm posting and drinkin' and looking for a hot skinny old blond hag. Any takers? Bring your massage table and wear the nurse costume.

  12. Color me disappointed. And after I sent him a donation. I don't want the money back (he can cover his debts so far and send any leftover to Matt Dietz) but the least he could do is invite me and the spousal unit over for dinner. Or a bovine back ride.

  13. @2:46 Stuckineaston Gregory has not burned all his bridges, not even close.

He knows secrets about many pols in office and can use them as leverage to be placed back into the mix. He has ushered in a new era of harmony on his pod in SCI Pitts by uniting the races and sexual orientations, gone are the days of fighting with shanks over trans inmates. Matters that once spilled blood or cost lives are now arbitrated by a bronze man god who presides over his constituents with a regal nature not seen since the benign dictatorship of Rome's Augustus.

  14. Ben, I will pass on your request to Ron. I'm sure he'd be delighted to break bread with you and your "spousal unit." And if it is any consolation, I believe Ron will help Matt in any way he can. I prefer Scott, whom I consider a voice of common sense and reason. But I must admit thatDietz is a likable guy.

  15. Despite what you may think, Barron is also a good person. You don't truly know him as you say we don't truly know Mr Angle. Good luck to
Mr Angle with whatever personal issue he is dealing with.

  16. You can count the number friends on one finger. You say he has a heart of gold, unfortunately it once belinged to infirm and elderly who he preys upon on a regular basis.

  17. I have known Ron for a long time and THE BARK IS BIGGER THAN THE BITE! Enjoy your retirement Ron and leave the politicians to Bernie. He will Bag'em one at a time.

  18. The "weapon" is not even loaded and who cares anyways unless he is pointing it at you Mr. Safety some people need a hobby besides picking apart pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  19. AKA, the poll numbers are in and he can't win. Everyone knew he would pull out if the polls showed he would lose. The voters are sick of the clown man and told him Steve Baron would win big time.

  20. I'm sure an anonymous coward is a real expert.

  21. @3:18,
I just pissed myself reading your nonsense-laden comments. Take your meds, please.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Word is once he heard Gregory would not be out to run his campaign, he quit.

    ReplyDelete
  23. He's an unpolished buffoon. I still like him. He's always gotten my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If I remember correctly, this is the same guy who locked an elderly apartment renter in his apartment from the outside, brought him some fast food to eat, collected his rent by taking the man's social security checks and cashing them, going to court because he left the man living in filth, feces and squall-er. The renter was deemed mentally ill by the courts and removed from the apartment and Ron had to pay most of the money back. Ron may have some good qualities as a father and husband, but when it comes to money, he is a different person.

  25. 6:27 - as fascinated as you seem to be with this story, I'm surprised you never took the time to find out the real facts. Then again, I guess I'm not surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  26. "...but I thought it wasn't loaded!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  27. Treat every weapon as if it is loaded AT ALL
    TIMES.
    Bill W.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Really Bill? If you can't tell a crossbow isn't loaded, you were not born with sufficient brain mass.

    ReplyDelete
  29. "He's an unpolished buffoon. I still like him. He's always gotten my vot"

Ron would be the first to agree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 9:26, I fell for that spin when I first heard it man years ago. But I read the file and got the full story.

    ReplyDelete
  31. and the full story is the same.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It is hard to describe Ron Angle since most people only know him by stories both pro and con. The best way to describe him is as a local small version of Donald
Trump. He is a thin skinned bully who will use his money like a club if you get him mad. He is a self-promoting showman who knows how to get attention. Some love him for saying and doing what he wants. If that is your cup of tea, he may be for you.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Did he really lock an elderly man up in filth and take his ss check?

    ReplyDelete
  34. If that were really true, he would have been locked up himself. You have distorted the situation against a man who is not running for anything.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So the plan all along was to deter any candidate for running for Controller by having Angle play the martyr. All the while planning to drop put to prevent a county wide race. This will help ensure a victory for two Republicans for Cou7nty
    Council.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I doubt very much that there was any sort of plan. County Rs may yet find someone. If they don't, this will make it easier for three, not two, Republicans running County wide.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why does it make it easier?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Because Dems who would be likely to come out in a race involving Angle might stay home. There are no contested races in Bethlehem or Easton.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "Did he really lock an elderly man up in filth and take his ss check?"

Yes, and it's also true that little aliens 6" tall have taken over the world. This is a stupid rumor someone dreamed up.

  40. Ronnie boy angle has mezz in his sights, but mezz needs more than a gherkin or tic tac toe to play with. Mezz is a big gAme hunter that's why she snagged a bronze side of man meat - and a finely aged dandy lion. MOLON LABE is her cry and what was lost csn always be recaptured

    ReplyDelete
  41. Word on the street is that Angle expected Jim Gregory would be available to run his campaign. Unfortunately, the mensa mangod is currently unavailable so Angle pulled out.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Bernie I know youve toned down your venomous attacks of late maybe cause your doing more serious journalism and hoping that one of the papers is going to pick you up. Or maybe you just havent thought of anything funny lately. But you really expect us to take it seriously when you say you feel bad when Ron Angle gets attacked? Im not buying that sob story.

    ReplyDelete
  43. John, you don't really know me. Barron probably knows me better than you.ask him how I feel about Ron or whether the personal attacks launched against him bother me. They do.they don't bother Ron but are really dishonest portrayals of who he is. So I am glad he is not running.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Seriously Bernie? You've attacked Barron and I promise you, you don't know him at all. Your previous comments about him have also hurt a lot of people-but that was ok? I do wish Mr Angle the best in whatever personal issue he has been dealing with but cut the bleeding heart friend crap! Barron is a good person down to his core. Wish I didn't have to actually agree on something with John Blankstein-can't stand him!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't have an idea what you are saying except that you are anonymously attacking John Blankstein while simultaneously attacking me for whatever. I certainly have attacked Barron in the past and stand by every one of them. But they were attacks based on what he was doing and not doing in office. I will say Barron has matured and that brown has managed to make him look good. But he has to drop "you guys" when addressing council, and cut his remarks in half.

    ReplyDelete
  46. What in the world is a "natural" body builder?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Gee, wonder why he dropped from the Controller's race? Could it be that it has something to do with not paying his taxes on a property at 709 Washington St and owing somewhere near $6,000.00 to the gov't ? So when the heat gets turned up and the press starts inquiring about things , he runs back to the Slate Belt to hide. Like a good patriotic American , stand up and pay your taxes Ron . Dead beats stink!

    ReplyDelete
  48. You likely know that the real owner of that property is Phil Lauer, who is always behind on his taxes there. There have even been one or two instances in which warrants have been issued against Ron over this property. That is Phil's responsibility, and if you did any kind of research, you'd know that.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Just restating was in published in the Morning Call Newspaper. Not my job to research the news. So then, what is the real story of Ron packing it in after running his mouth as usual? The County taxpayers have a right to know. Or do they ?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Like I said, if you did any research, you would not be running your anonymous mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The mouth is quiet, so what is the reason for Ronnie not running then. Why the cover up and silence. This speaks volumes !!!!! Geez, sounds like Angle writing here. lol

    ReplyDelete
  52. I didn't know that writing has a sound.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Still Silence from Camp Angle on why he quit again ? Maybe the reports in the paper of not paying taxes was correct like the other poster stated. HMMMM.
