Bethlehem Tp Comm'rs Appoint Four Special Fire Police Officers

Marty Zawarski administers oath to Martin W. Comer
At their June 15 meeting, Bethlehem Township Commissioners appointed John Carney, Pauline Schuyler, Martin W. Comer, Jeffrey Optiz and Nicholas Santiago to act as special fire police officers. Those are volunteer fire company members authorized by a municipality to help handle emergency situations. They might be seen directing motorists around the scene of an accident or even helping to evacuate people after a hazardous road spill.

One appointee, Martin W. Comer, an 82 year retired steelworker, can be seen at every Commissioners' meeting and has volunteered much of his time to the Township, from the special fire police force to the establishment of a monument to honor Township residents who served in the military.

  1. Hi, Bernie --

You forgot one more of our Fire Police officers, Pauline Schuyler. Just didn't want her to be forgotten.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
