Mary Ellen Koval is seeking re-election as Allentown’s City Controller, a post she has held for the past four years,
In an announcement released late last week, Kovel takes credit for increasing the number of internal City Hall financial audits. She was able to do more because of a new internship program she started for college accounting and business majors. Koval also claims to have made city government more transparent, by providing residents with an easy way of requesting copies of city contracts through the Allentown Website.
“I have witnessed firsthand the changing tides of the Queen City’s fortunes and I care passionately about Allentown’s future,” Koval said. “That’s why I would like to continue my work as City Controller.”
An East Side native and a graduate of Dieruff High School, Koval has held numerous senior level positions in Allentown government since 1999. She was a special projects manager and then a purchasing agent before running for Controller in 2011.
Prior to that, Koval served as Executive Director of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation for the Lehigh Valley region. Her 15-year tenure with the March of Dimes was marked by a substantial increase in fund raising; proliferation in the number of volunteers; and the professionalization and diversification of the local Executive Board.
Her email address is mekoval@ptd.net.
The home team never loses in Allentown. It's good to be on the team.
