You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
BO,
ReplyDeleteFrom my experience, just make sure to have your OWN funding to cover the funding for those who say they will support you but don't. It's all about MONEY and POWER in the end. Sure, these positions may not pay much but it's about the influence they may hold. I say if someone wants to run, as I did, please DO. It is a great experience and calling, but go in with our eyes wide open. Everyone has an agenda and if you aren't included, it may make your task quite a bit harder.
Just remember: Good people, good plans, good ideals, and practical processes and thoughts DON'T win elections, good strategy and great funding does.

I attended this workshop before I ran. It was very helpful. Especially the supporting materials they give you. The workbook alone is worth 45 bucks. But the program itself was excellent as well. A thorough and complete overview and technical how to of navigating the process.
ReplyDeleteWas big deal for me since at the time I had zero party support. I didn't really seek it, but they didn't exactly knock on my door.
That's probably the way it should be for local elections at least in primaries. LWV does this in a totally bi-partisan way. For me raising a good chunk of money helped since opponents were well funded by outsiders (Harrisburg Realtor PAC) but what won it was hitting doors hard, message and alot of what I learned at this workshop.
