ReplyDeleteAND BERNIE's FATHER was in a Pow camp. Well I will tell you the shower head on the wall was not what you think. The area was classified CONFINED and if you needed heat in the winter, they did not move up the thermostat --YOU FROZE YOUR ASS OFF .Now The meals ;Where ALA-Carte-no microwave - this means they never had a regular meal. They scrounged for food. The German's did not feed as badly as the Japanese or the later Vietnamese but it was not any picnic. They ate sporadically. They lost weight and were miserable after being captured.HOWEVER- here in the U.S . German soldiers and Italians were given a different treatment. Many returned with a wife and settled here like VINCE the barber 14th street in Easton ,came back after being a prisoner of war and raised a family and sent both kids to college.German soldiers at RUTGERS-worked on farm land for the agricultural department. But Bernie's dad - he made it but they about killed him first.Happy Veterans Day Mr. O'Hare -the thought of you where you were makes me -a Marine cry.
