Becahi's Golden Hawks Remain Undefeated

Freddie Simmons (#5) and Michael McDaniel (#2)
Fireworks! You could see and hear them exploding at Sand Island as the first half ended in Saturday night's gridiron contest between East Stroudsburg South and Bethlehem Catholic. But they were nothing compared to the fireworks on the field. Those were all coming from the Golden Hawks, who were up already up 28-0. Becahi would go on to win its fourth victory in four games this season, by a final score of 42-0.

Was it Fabulous Freddie Simmons, who just last week returned three punts for touchdowns? No, Coaches sheathed their most powerful weapon during the first half, and only used him sparingly in the second. Instead, they relied on some other very powerful weapons.

Michael "M1" McDaniel took the ball down the field for a 61-yard touchdown in Beca's first offensive drive. He improved on that in the next drive with a 99-yard scamper from the one, in what might be a school record. He followed that up later in the game with a 23-yard run to the goal line. He ended the night with 215 yards rushing.

Antwon Keenan also scored on a 21-yard pass.

Becahi's bend-but-don't break defense mounted two goal line stands, stopping the Cavaliers twice when they threatened in the first half.

Then the sack machine went to work. Dante Lonordo had at least two sacks and another two hurry-ups on East Stoudsburg South QB Nick Boushell..

With the game in hand, McDaniel and other starters found themselves on the bench, too, as coaches wisely avoided the temptation to run up the score. High school football is so unpredictable that it could easily have been the other way around.

  1. BECAHI has had and now again has the best AAU club team out there. This is not indictment on BECAHI but all the parochial schools. Hoping one day that the PIAA segregates the competition between the public and parochial schools on the State level. IMHO

  2. I had a lengthy comment to reply, but decided this is not where I want to discuss parochial v. public schools. These posts are for the kids who are playing and the sport they are playing. I understand some of you have strong feelings on any Catholic school that is successful is sports. I will do a post about that at the end of the season. Until then, I ask that you let the kids play and keep it positive if you can. Encourage your own teams if you want. If you go to games on a regular basis and want to submit a report, I'll post it. BOHare5948@aol.com. For now, let us honor these kids who spend untold hours preparing for something that will be over before they know it.

  3. This is tough to do Bernie. You do understand that recruiting and Catholic Schools do go hand in hand and that is a cold hard fact of life. No one should ever go after the kids. They don't make the rules. The Piaa should be brought to task here, The kids are innocent products of a unfair unsytem. Congratulations to the kids. Shame on the PIAA.

  4. Like I said once already, this is for the kids, not the great Catholic v. public school debate. Save those arguments for another day. I promise I will post about it down the road, and we can have a great time tearing each other to shreds. Till then, let's appreciate what these kids are doing on both sides of the ball.

  5. You think the kids are reading this blogs bullshit?

  6. I don't think so. I know so. Freddie Simmons' mom posted two comments on my last story, mentioning that the kids had seen it. Freddie actually gave his mom a copy of my first story. Youth sports is a very big deal, especially when kids are in high school. Most of my readers like the sports stories, too. I love watching these kids play, and I know how hard they work.

  8. I gave it to him. He reminds me of an M1 Abrams tank.
