Pipeline Coming Soon? Or Is It?

The Morning Call's Scott Kraus has the lowdown on a 100-mile, Marcellus Shale natural gas pipeline that might be coming through Northampton County. According to a corporate news release, the goal is to reduce the price of natural gas in Jersey, the armpit state. And it's perfectly safe, too! I mean, who's ever heard of a natural gas explosion?

Though the route map is far from clear, it's definitely going through Bethlehem Township. At their Moinday night meeting, Township Manager Melissa Shafer reported that she set up a meeting with Penn East, the name being used by a consortium of gas companies.

This is no done deal, although it seems likely.

  1. Hey, watch it! I'm from Jersey. At least we don't grow bottom-feeding disbarred attorneys.

We may be the chemical factory state, and possibly the garbage dump state. But we draw the line at armpits.

  2. Heh, heh. Sorry, but I have an image to uphold, so I insulted New Jersey. I haven't insulted them for awhile, and I dodn't want anyone to think I'm going soft.

  3. Ok it nice that there was a reporting that this pipeline is going through Bethlehem Township and of course others, when are the hearings going to start? When will the people have a voice to ask questions? Or, will this pipeline be like the developments that are going in in Bethlehem Township a done deal with behind the scene concurrence before the Public gets a chance to weigh in? Hoping that speaking to staffers does not count for any required Public notification!

  4. I hope that it's American weed going into that pipeline and not that Mexican ditch weed.

  5. I would imagine that in Bethlehem Township, they will try to parallel the existing Columbia Gas pipeline as much as possible to avoid buying a new right of way corridor, which would be a very uphill battle in such a developed area. Columbia may have rights for an additional pipeline under their existing easements that could be assigned to this new entity, but I haven't seen the documents.

  6. "existing easements".... depending on the property owners, could be one of those "never thought it could actually happen" surprises disrupting their properties.

  7. PPL is also ramping up talks of another powerline as well... can two eminent domain entities start a biding war over my property?
