Tales of Trachta: Trachta Loses Round With Civil Service Commission

In recent days, Nazareth police officer's Dan Troxell's name has appeared in the dailies a few times. Though making an arrest the day after a bar fight is hardly the stuff of which police legends are made, Chief Thomas Trachta wants this part-time journeyman to become a full-time officer. He wants it so badly that he blackballed a Nazareth resident and Iraq War veteran who scored first in testing and already is a police officer in another municipality.

Last night, at a closed hearing of Nazareth's Civil Service Commission, this war hero and Nazareth home boy has been reinstated to #1.

Under state law, an appointment to a vacancy on the police force must come from one of the top three choices of the Civil Service Commission. So it's possible that Borough Council can go with the second or third choice, but this will be hard to justify.

  1. Not sure if police officer falls into the category, but in hiring for some Civil Service positions a veteran MUST be hired over non-veterans when he/she is among the top 3 candidates by score results.

The Civil Service Commission in PA does as much as possible to ensure veterans are hired.

  2. Let's hope this rule applies in Trachta Town. It's ridiculous to have a police force of journeymen. But my sense is that Nazareth will now say it costs too much to protect its citizens.

  3. I know you are really hopped up about this issue. However, I think you need to take a look at the plan for another tea party protest planned for Kidspeace this weekend. This time they are to be joined by some armed militia from some hole in the state. Word is they will b e open carrying their weapons at Kidspeace.

Don't know if that can be done in proximity to the kids?

  4. Bernie's going to take in a couple of the kids. He's no phony. When he cites the Bible, it's because he lives it. Bernie, are you taking in two or three of the kids? Rumor has it that Ron Angle is preparing to accept 100 or so at his estate. These men know it would be very phony to cite the Bible and ignore the little children at the same time.

    1. Hmmmm.........7:36 I fail to see the logic in your argument or statement. Civil service has nothing to do with Borough council, or former or current full-time officers. The article is about the civil service committee, changing their decision to reinstate a full-time police officer candidate. The article allegedly the at this time, the current police chief Thomas Trachta used his position to interfere with the testing process in order to help out his friend or caddy, Dan Troxell become a full-time police officer as he is currently only a part time police officer. Not to say that either position is more dangerous than the other. But what I can't fathom is that this is not Troxell ' s first time taking the civil service test for Nazareth Borough. It's his fourth. So next time will be his fifth. I believe that the current police force including Lahovski is three. In 2008 we had one full-time police chief, six full-time, two 32 hour part-time positions, eight part-time officers and our current police chief who at that time was a part time police chief. For the past several years we have been down four full-time officers, and a part time police chief! The question should be, where is the money in which our council have allocated for the next 25 years of having a police force for those missing four full-time police officers?

Of course they will because people like you and your Tea Party mentality demand tax cuts at any cost. The taxpayers are suffering - isn't that your usual battle cry?

  7. This shit went on for years in Northampton County Sheriffs department. You had to be a friend of someone than you got a finger stuck up your ass then you were hired. Then you get a room named after you in the sheriffs office.

  8. It's actually Chivaroli Town. And they will close the Police Dept for financial reasons.
Trachta nor Sinclair did or do anything without the consent of council and their solicitor. Where does the true blame fall? Police Union or Council?

    1. Under PA. Law Act 111.........I think. The Borough absolutely can close the department. However the ONLY source of police services can ONLY come from the Pa. State Police. The Borough will NOT be able to obtain service from Colonial regional, Upper Nazareth, or any other local police department. Should the Borough attempt to close the department, then years later restart the department. They have to rehire it's original police officers whim they let go, and return them will FULL BACK PAY!

  9. @7:29 Those kids would be better off at KidPeace concentration camp than the O'Hare and/or Angle concentration camp.

  10. @1:35 We all know that Bernie prefers to have the illegal children be abused at KidsPeace then sent home.

18 out of 20 of the illegal children in Dallas never showed up for their hearing on Tuesday. So where did they go? Will we be hearing about them in the news in the near future?

  12. Bernie, While not taking sides in Nazo as it's not my domicile, I do and alway will take issue with unjust monkey business by Civil Service Boards in regards to veteran hiring procedures.See, I have been through it myself, been mad as hell ,stonewalled ,rumors I won't discuss it here . It got the point that Easton City Council had to overrule eventually the Civil Service Board.Anyway-- Anon 12;57 is correct, but will anyone ETHICALLY stick their neck out and follow procedure that are in place for having not hung out around their mother's house until 24 BUT went to war, did what Uncle Sam asked ,EARNED an Honorable Discharge-that by they was if you screw up that less than Honorable that becomes a detriment almost your life time, for at least taking the risk to serve. Only about ONE PERCENT of this American public has an ID card, Active ,Reserve and Retires out 320,000,000 people. The Wall Street Journal article recently stated that about 71 % of today's population between 18 and 26 are UNFIT to join our Armed Services for a variety of pitfalls in their life already.Good luck ,Nazareth is a fine community, great local folks.

  15. After reading these posts and talking to the mayor which is a very good neighbor and friend I must agree with him.I don't believe the words came from the chief.I believe them, that this came from one disease cop officer troxell ❕ I met him a few years ago and I will try to be nice.but even I thought I heard that kind of thing said but he didn't say it about a black person.it was said about .well enough I won't say it.but now that my neighbor is mayor I am disappointed that he would still allowed him to talk this way is sad.I don't think it is all that young boys fault.I have never met his parents.please stop this kind of hate in our beautiful town.we are not that way.god bless our town with great neighbors,so let's stop this sickness and council we voted you in.and after many years later it time for change.⁉

  19. You're going to have to start IDing yourself. This blog does not exist for mindless name-calling. If you have a specific criticism of Troxell, based on facts, state it. I have numerous criticisms and have stated them. You diminish what i post with mindless nonsense. Let's drop the childish crap.
