Silly Republicans

They're in firm control in Northampton County, so they're doing something right. But I still have to laugh at the County's GOP. They're fighting like cats and dogs over state committee seats, with mailers that contain no disclosures. There are even campaign signs. In the meantime, several elected offices have no Republican challenging the Democratic incumbent.

Who is behind this? The same sore losers who've done pretty poorly among fellow Republicans, to say nothing of Democrats. Unsuccessful Bethlehem City Council candidate Tony Simao. Failed Easton School District candidate Ronnie Del Bacco. Tom Carroll, who lost both a City Council race and Judge contest.

It's all Ron Angle's fault.

It's all Peg Ferraro's fault.

So now they have a slate running for state committee. They are the pure Republicans. That's OK, but the Simao crew has also formed a webpage that is extremely critical of Angle and mainstream Republicans. They claim it is paid for by some PAC that does not exist. They've also sent out two mailers attacking Angle and others. In violation of state campaign finance laws, they refuse to name who paid for these ads.

Maybe Judge (some day, he hopes) Carroll told them it's OK.

Here's their problem. Their webpage, which is supposed to trash Angle, has one of the best pictures of him I've ever seen. He's also identified with a group of fairly classy people instead of Mr. Hankey the Christmas poo, or me.

In an attempt to trash him, they made him look good.

Their mailers are hateful and desperate. Speaking of hateful and desperate, Tricia Mezzacappa is part of this crew, too. She will likely be elected to the County Committee on Tuesday, although I believe it is illegal to certify her because she owes at least $1,000 in unpaid fines for late campaign finance reports.

Anyhoo, in response to the webpage and vicious mailers, there's been an anti-Simao mailer, too. No attribution on this one, either. "Say No to the Tony Simao slate," it warns.

I asked Angle to fess up. he wouldn't answer his phone, so I drove to his estate, where he was skeet shooting some of his disobedient cows.

"Pull!" he barked at a servant, and a cow went flying through the air.

Angle missed. "Look, asshole, I don't really give a shit whether I'm elected," he snarled. "Why don't you ask John Brown?" he said, and then started laughing.

I could see Democrats sending these unsigned mailers to the Republicans, but we're just  too damn stupid.

I'm thinking Mr. Hankey.

  1. Bernie,

You may want to double check with both the state and local elections office on this one before taking anyone to task. They do not treat elections for PARTY offices the same as those seeking other offices. Their position, at least several years ago, was that election finance reporting laws DO NOT APPLY to elections for PARTY offices, such as committeeman and state committee. I personally had a discussion with Harrisburg about this some years ago and was surprised by that answer. If it has not changed you might be also. Obviously it is a different issue if someone is actually using the name of a pac that does not exist, however the state elections office advised me that no reporting of contributions or expenses was required in a race for a party office. This pertained to an election for Democrat state committee and I assume the same rules would apply to all other parties as well.

  2. You may be right bc this is a party office and the disclosure requirement is on shaky constitutional ground, but I still find the entire exercise, from sign to mailers to webpages to misleading nonexistent PACs, to be silly and, to some extent, dishonest.

  3. Mezz will never be removed from the castle on Ridge St, and she will be calling shots on the committee.

  5. I like that you refer to a robust intra-party debate as silly. You're spending too much time in the sheep pen in Bethlehem. You also had John Brown getting crushed by John something or other (can't remember his name; the guy who embarrassed his kid at a wrestling match and is no longer in politics). Republican usually do the right thing, as evidenced by their running the table last November. Get out of one-party Bethlehem and breathe a little.

  6. Love Ron. Despise Peg. Think Messycrapper is a vicious nut who deserves to lose her shack to you. It's great to have options in a primary.

It's silly. Simao, Carroll, Del Whackko and Eichman are soending so much time trashing other Rs that several Ds are running for real offices unopposed, including in their own district.

Yes, I did., and that should have happened. I know very few people who are happy with what they've seen from Brown, including many who voted for him.

No argument. But it is just silly to get so focused on party positions that you lose track of the real offices out there. That's what these nuts are doing.

  10. What the Republican Committee does right is a fair amount of support for candidates county-wide, and making sure their super-voters come out every time, 100% of the time.

And as for the Anon calling internal party conflict just a robust intra-party debate, that's a false assumption, because eventually egos are bruised and some sabotage takes place.

  11. One advantage to being registered independent is that we don't get all these mailers and phone calls. But, what the heck is going on, Lisa Boscola's friends are asking people to write her name in on the Republican ballot?

  12. "what the heck is going on, Lisa Boscola's friends are asking people to write her name in on the Republican ballot?"

What is going on is that there is a Republican woman named Alberta Scarfaro who is supposedly trying to get 500+ write-ins to face Lisa in November. Lisa is doing this to avoid having to run against a Republican candidate in November.

  13. Once again Boscola screwed up. the woman she clubbed in the Harrisburg bar has come out and said she never apologized to Boscola.

Once again Boscola caught in a lie. It is about time she get strong Republican opposition, she is as flawed as Johnny Casino.

What a load of crap. Despite violating Reagan's 11th Commandment, Rs will come together in November and win again with plenty of help from this mostly blue county. Bruised egos don't stop Rs from unifying and the county committee runs a very effective ground game, as you acknowledged. If bruised egos in the primary cause someone to turn Democrat, they were likely headed there anyway. Sack it up or go shop for a prom dress. It's politics for chrisakes.

  16. 2:47, the Rs are so busy attacking each other that Boscola may very well end up on the ballot as a GOP write-in. This is what happens when Mezzacappa, Simao and Del Wacko get involved. I love it.

  17. Simao and Carroll "behind" the attacks?

I think not, the only thing anyone sees of them is their fronts. Weren't they the two that had a little too much hanging out online?

They can't win erections. . . I mean, elections, so they have to run for a seat they might actually win.

  18. Boscola! I'll drink to that! But drunken lawbreakers are a D thang. She should just choke somebody and take a soft landing with the state committee.

Assumptions again from someone who won't sign their name. Ask the Tea Party if they'll ever leave the Republican Party... The answer is clear, if they separate, the Tea party dies. Those Egos know that.
