Less Than 600,000 Used LVIA in 2013
Over the past year, less than 600,000 passengers "enplaned" or "deplaned" a commercial aircraft at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE). That's a 32% drop in the past two years. But the Airport's Executive Director, Charles Everett, even counts bus passengers, i.e. those who "enbussed" or "debussed" at the airport. If he persists in this thinking, his board ought to offer Trans-Bridge a sweetheart deal to relocate to ABE. That would really juice the numbers.
Incidentally, the United Bus to/from EWR 9Newark Liberty International Airport) is the fastest growing route out of ABE.

The place is dying a slow death. It is not the airport's fault but just the way the airline business is going. Fares are up, airlines are consolidating, and the airlines basically want to only be in thriving big cities. Even if the secondary market like ABE can make sum money for them, it is still not worth the time and effort. ABE will go the way of Reading and turn into a nice general aviation airport down the road.
ReplyDeleteDeplane? I'm already on de plane!
ReplyDeleteNazareth resident. 26 plane trips in '14; only two through ABE. Makes me crazy as I drive past the damn place on the way to PHL, or when passing the ABE-EWR wheeled flight on 78.
ReplyDeleteBernie,
ReplyDeleteCheck out Greenville/Spartanburg airport which is very similar to ABE except it works. Remember this airport is only 90 minutes for Charlotte and 120 minutes to Atlanta. Similar to ABE in relation to Philly, Newark and JFK.
Think management has anything to do with it?salam
Salam was part of proving I'm not a robot. Sorry
ReplyDeleteGSP airport has about 6 major airlines flying out every day. Not sure of total passengers at this time.
a lot of the problem is with the FAA. Can someone please explain why our congressman has not addressed this problem especially since he is on the congressional transportation sub committee. I know hes no Paul Ryan but does he have any influence at all?
ReplyDeleteAnon 926am care to enlighten us on the problems with the FAA that are impacting flights in/out of ABE?
ReplyDeleteTime to raise the fee's, right Tony?
ReplyDeleteI am amazed the website for LVIA is under reconstruction. The leadership could not figure out how to have a new site on-line as the old one is taken down? Seems like another symptom of the bad inertia plaguing the operation for years. We have a good facility here, I hope it can survive. A tough industry worldwide and marginal leadership running LVIA.
