Happy El Dia de Reyes

Christians call it Epiphany. But in Puerto Rico, Mexico and many other Latin American countries, January 6 is knows as 'El Dia de Reyes', or Three Kings Day. It commemorates the day that three wise men brought gifts for Baby Jesus. For many Latin American kids, Monday is the day they get their gifts. So if you saw a bunch of people rushing around at Target and Wal Mart in icy weather, you know why.

Kids who have Latino and non-Latino parents must make out like bandits.

This is also considered the last day of Christmas.

  1. Sounds like a good holiday. Of course since it is associated with Jesus and Christmas I think the uglies will have their say. They always do. Fortunately they are the minority.

  2. Obviously the local latino folks don't read your blog as only 1 comment before mine.

Same said come election time when very few get out and vote, so it begs the question: Do the Latino's really give a shit about politics?

  3. I would not conclude anything about an ethnic group based on the comments to a Sunday night entry. But I have deleted two bigoted comments. Based on your logic, I could safely conclude non Latinos are bigoted.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
