Brown Names Eyer as New Chief Public Defender

In a memo to Northampton County Council's Personnel Committee, Executive John Brown has announced the appointment of Bob Eyer as Chief Public Defender.

A 1992 graduate of Dickinson law School, Eyer has served as an assistant District Attorney in Northampton County, becoming its chief violent crime prosecutor. He also served as Chief Judicial Law Clerk to Superior Court Judge Robert Freedberg.

Brown's first choice for the job, Bob Sletvold, was withdrawn earlier in the week because of the burdens that appointment could impose on the courts. Sletvold's wife is a judge, and would be unable to hear most criminal and juvenile matters.

Eyer, who maintains a private practice in the Easton areas with Attorney Goudsouzian, will be paid $57,20 for this part-time post.

His appointment must be confirmed by County Council.

That should be a cinch. Eyer is an excellent choice. A good lawyer and a good person. He is a marathoner, and is the only runner I know who would take smoke breaks in the muddle of a race.

Brown finally got one right.

  6. Anon 7;47 You mean on body fat!Well the U.S.Marine Corps has pilots that are about 6%body fat so they can withstand the G- forces and thrashing of high performance aircraft. Also if you want to live the longest life you can ,you must be almost a fat less human ,if your even" average" weight you are in the danger zone for cardiovascular events.Take this to your bank! You will be dead before he is !

  7. Peter, I can think of only two people hateful enough to post a comment like the one at 7:47. One is West Easton's Tricia Mezzacappa. The other is her blog mentor .

  9. It is not a good choice, it is a great choice! If Morganelli ever left the DA's Office, Eyer would be a top rate DA.

  10. Did you hear that the Post Office just recalled their latest stamps?

They had pictures of lawyers on them ... and people couldn't figure out which side to spit on.

  11. A woman goes to her doctor and says, "Doctor, my husband has developed a penchant for anal sex. So I came to you for advice."

"Ok, let's see...does it hurt you?"

    "Hmmmm .. a little."

    "Do you like it?"

    "Hmmm ..... well, yes."

"Then, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't do it. If you care about not getting pregnant."

"Getting pregnant? I didn't know you could get pregnant in that way."

"Of course you can. Where do you think all lawyers come from?"

I assume its only a matter of time before he does something that you don't agree with which will allow you to launch one of your patented knee jerk, uninformed, ad hominem attacks. Given your view that Ron Angle had set the gold standard for public service he better brush up on his skills by practicing how to insult, demean and grand stand for attention.

  13. Now.. that is a "home run" pick. I am wowed by this one. Way to go Brownie!! Probably the best Government Management hire recently in all of Northampton County!!

  14. Bob Eyer is an excellent choice that balances out the "golly gee, did you know you could remote access a computer" scomillio pick. Next thing you know they will invent something like email. Technology is something else!

Guess his staff will be doing sheriff sales and tax assessment appeals from behind their desks in their private offices under the sign that reads "my part time job is more important than my private legal practice"

he is an uninformed, gee I wanted to be judge but they said its her turn, you next time, disaster in the making. way to go Brownie

  17. The US has 5 percent of the world's population, 25 percent of the world's incarcerated people, and 50 percent of the world's lawyers, who invoice almost 10 percent of US GDP (around $1.4 trillion annually).

  18. PS: Thank you Atty.Eyer for even moving into this arena. Lord knows you don't need to. Northampton County should feel very lucky to get a seasoned gentlemen like you to take on this thankless role. God Speed and all the best. Hopefully the self absorbed kooks on Council won't bother you too much.

  20. Tune in to WAEB next month to get a dose of "Facts & Truth" on Gunther's morning show to counteract the misinformation bubbling from this cauldron of hate.

  21. The show that was supposed to start in January? He can't even provide FACTS or TRUTH about that. I think Gunther is running from him, as he should.
