On Pawlowski's own Facebook page, David Diano has this observation:
"You're currently running for a 4 year job as mayor, but plan to spend the first 6 months after the election (until primary) running for a better job (and entire year if you win primary).
"Running for Gov is a pretty time consuming job that takes you to all 67 counties. I don't see how you can do mayor's job well when you are everywhere but Allentown, unless running Allentown is a relatively easy part-time kind of job that doesn't require much effort. I guess "not miss a beat" confirms this.
"BTW, your "another year and a half to serve" math seems a bit off. Your current term ends in January 2014. Should you win Gov, you would start in Jan 2015. That's a year, not a year and a half (and it's a year where you'd be busy planning for Gov of Pa).
"As a general rule, I think it's pretty bad when a politician announces a run for a higher office, while still running for a lower office that they plan to abandon if the higher run pans out. It shows a complete lack of commitment to the voters for the lower office.
"I think candidates for office should be legally prohibited from seeking higher offices that start before their current term ended. The taxpayers get stuck with the bill for a special election for replacements.
"However, in this case, since you have NO chance of winning Gov primary, it's a moot point.
"The classy move would be to exit the mayor's race, since your heart really isn't in being mayor, and allow someone else who is willing to make a 4 year commitment to the job."
Pawllowski, who has the charisma and actually looks a bit like a penguin, has absolutely no chance of becoming Governor. It's a fool's errand. But his early announcement is yet another demonstration that democracy is dead in Allentown.
Independent candidate Michael Donovan intends to be at the announcement, and is asking his supporters to join him.
As an Allentownian I resent King Edwin roaming around Pa. on a wild goose chase instead of working for the overtaxed citizens who pay his salary. He has NO CHANCE of winning the primary next year. His massive ego is once again hurting the citizens of our community. Our only hope is that he gets his butt kicked next year and he learns some humility in the process.

This is one of those terrible choices that we are given in politics:
ReplyDeleteDo we hope for Pawlowski to quit the Governor race, or do we let him travel the state so he has less time to screw up the city?
Assuming he wins the Mayor race, do we follow our conscience and vote against him for Governor, or do we join his campaign team to help him win just so he's out of the city?

You are certainly entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own facts. Though he toyed with the idea, the only announcement he made was that he was NOT running. And in fact, in 2010, I suggested there should be a "resign to run" law. I still think so, though it should not apply to the judiciary or part-time elected officials. So basically, you are full of shit.

ReplyDeletePawlowski has raised numerous taxes and fees on Allentown residents, including the earned income tax, OPT/LST, and a new fee for a bogus home inspection when you move.
To top it off, he has financed a property tax increase in the form of a water rate hike, turning a $160 million pension problem into a half a billion dollar water problem. While that may have solved Ed's short term political problem, it is a weight around the necks of all Alkentown residents.
If that's the Mayor's idea of progress or good financial planning I wish him luck. An actual opponent will point that out and tear his record to shreds.

Maybe the rest of the state will come to understand he grabbed precious state tax dollars they sent in for the common good, only to have Pawlowski construct buildings that will be privately owned by a few "chosen" friends.
ReplyDeleteThere was an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette a week or two ago that covered the Democratic primary for Governer and they covered 8 serious candidates and Pawlawski wasn't even mentioned in the article. I think he will wind up running for Lt. Gov. While he could care less about his "constituents", he is smart and knows what is best for himself, which would be 2nd in command for now.

I believe I've already explained the difference. He never announced, and that very year, I suggested there should be a resign to run law on my blog. Telling a lie, over and over, does not make it true.

ReplyDeleteThe Ron Angle argument is a red herring. The whole point with Ron was that he believed and still believes he can serve Council and the school board simultaneously. In other words, he was not running for some office, figuring he'll abandon another office once elected.
I think it is a law that should be examined, thought so in 2010, and said so in 2010. Under my name. Not anonymously.

ReplyDeleteDid you even read what I wrote? What Pawlowski wants to do is get paid by the citizens of Allentown and then quit them if elected. What Angle wanted to do is serve the county for no pay and serve his school board for no pay. It is the exact opposite of what Pawlowski is doing.

His money went into a special account he set up for his region. It did not go to him. He will decide where it goes. It is no red herring, and your analogy from Pawlowski to Angle is complete bullshit. Look at the title of my post. It is about Pawlowski, not your hatred or fear that Angle will challenge you.
