Brown Conducts Fundraiser in Callahan Country

Bangor Mayor John Brown is Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan's opponent in this November's race to determine who will follow John Stoffa as Northampton County Executive. Callahan is already way ahead in the money race. He reported having $90,001 in his post-primary election report, nearly 13 times as much as Brown's $7,003. But that race probably got a little closer after a Brown fundraiser last night at Hotel Bethlehem. Headliners included Congressman Charlie Dent, former Bethlehem Mayor Ken Smith and Notre Dame All-American football player, Ned Bolcar.

I was not there, though I'm told there was a nice crowd. Admission was $100, and that's enough to scare away bottom-feeding bloggers.

But not enough to scare away pistol-packin' mommas. West Easton's Tricia Mezzacappa was in the house, sportin' a holster. Nothing was in it. But that was enough for a "pat down" before being admitted.

That's a good thing because the Diega Dynamite of Northampton County was in a bad mood. Earlier in the day, she was lambasting the DA's office for refusing to make copies of the subpoenas she got for her PFA case against me. She thought copies should be made for her, free of charge, because she's special.

    Brown is terrible and will lose by 65%. He may run for state senate next year, and lose.

    Charlie Dent warned voters about the very dishonest Callahan. "Pay-to-play. That's the way business is done in Callahan's Bethlehem." We've been warned. John will make Reibman look like a boy scout in the ethics department.

    Instead of bringing his Party together, Callahan is splitting it up even more.

    Brown looks good by comparison.

    That part isn't funny, the job Brown has done is a joke. Hey Brownie, how much did it cost to pay off the police chief you (illegally) fired? How much did the taxpayers give you for training last year? You should be ashamed!

    Mayor Brown is doing the best of his Political ability. Bangor is built on a Spring Hill with degrading underground Slate culvetry....As the new NORCO Exec.,TaxPayer Dollar's will remediate Bangor's Slate Belt Legacy (D.E.P. approval Pending....)

    Sheriff Miller made it a point to be televised on 69 news at the Calahan victory party. Since all deputies are required to take an oath not to support any political activity, where can one find out how much he donated to the Calahan campaign and if violated the oath. Curious since he gave $250 to Calahan when he ran for representative. This guy is all about himself and I would like to find this out.

    I believe there is a $100 contribution. Stop the presses. The real question is whether he is barred from political activity and my guess is he is not.

    Miller took an oath of office whereby he swears "that I have not paid or contributed...any money or valuable thing to procure my nomination or election (or appointment)... $100 may be insignificant, but if Calahan wins and keeps Miller, this is obviously a breach of this oath. Further, Miller has received little perks from the half million dollar contract the County signed with CODY (such as hats, lunches). This violates the oath which reads "that I will not knowingly receive...any money or other valuable thing for the performance or non-performance of any act or duty pertaining to my office other than compensation allowed by law. This guy is a hypocrite for firing Steward when he did not intentionally violate a law and this guy violates the oath he took.

    I think it is a stretch to say Miller violated the oath. Quite a few holes. He will not be appointed by Callahan. He is already appointed by the Exec AND the judges. Plus, I don't think $100 buys an appointment. As for CODY, give me a break. Assuming you have your facts right, these are incidentals. Also, if you want to attack someone's integrity, why not man (or woman) up and say who you are?

    Many deputies have contributed to political campaigns and have done so anonymously. Miller is an egotistical narcicist and chose not to do this. He holds certain people to higher standards than which he even follows. This is all I am trying to say. Furthermore, to state these little perks are only incidentals, they set the tone for other abuses, such as the Napolean sergeant and his sidekick Chuey getting discounts from a County provider for having their own personal vehicles detailed and cleaned.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself.
