Embattled Kerr Resigns as NorCo GOP Chair

In a letter dated April 14, Robert Kerr has resigned as Chairman of the Northampton County Republican Party, effective tomorrow. His dictatorial style, which included the firing of long-time Solicitor Brian Monahan as well as a personal attack at County Council member Peg Ferraro during a recent meeting, had come under increasing criticism by party regulars.

Kerr claimed he was stepping down before the primary so that candidates are not distracted by "fractures and personal attacks that factions bring to every meeting."

Those factions, as Kerr calls them, appear to be the majority. Ron Angle, a member of the party's executive committee, states, "It's evident an overwhelming majority felt that his leadership was not taking them in the direction the party wants to head."

According to Angle, Kerr encouraged Tricia Mezzacappa to run and "had the audacity to ask her to lead them in prayer."

Mezzacappa has been described as a racist in an Easton police report, was convicted of disorderly conduct as a result of a tirade at West Easton Borough Hall that included death threats, and currently faces criminal harassment charges for impersonating a former candidate on her blog, falsely misleading voters into thinking he supported her candidacy.

  1. Cleanse thyself. Did it take too long? Perhaps. But Ds are still paying Brennan a salary. Better to clean house slowly than not at all.

  2. Another tirade against your old girlfriend. Enough alreaday man!!

  3. Well he finally got the message. The fractious nature of all his meetings is due strictly to his authoritarian style along with his henchman, Tony Simao. He needs to resign asap too. Kerr's "management" style consists of "my way or the highway" and he's targeted an enemy list, ie., those who don't knuckle under his rule.

  4. Damn, As a Dem I wanted him as party chair. It would have made our job easy in the fall. Now we will have to work a little.

  5. They need a woman as chair, but my prediction is it will be a male "again"

  6. Actually, this is rather sad. Instead of pooling and encouraging talents, instead of combining the new energy and abilities with the knowledge and experience of the old, this was about splintering, controlling, and gaining power, especially control. Authority is not leadership. Creating teamwork is not all about creating compliance.

  7. We have a good and well qualified vice chairman right now.
Let him take the reins and show us what he can do. He deserves the chance becasue he stepped up when the chips were down and no one wanted to put temselves on the line.

  9. Let's knock off the anonymous homophobia. Tony Simao is openly gay, while you can't even identify yourself. Who do you think is more of a man?

  10. correction
three people ran for vice chair, so people were willing to put their name on the line

  11. You homophobes on this blog couldn't hold Tony Simao's genetic jockstrap.

  12. What is a genetic "Jock Strap"?

  13. Theisinformation here is pathetic. Mr. Kerr has been kind and respecyful with the loud mouths like Ron Angle and Lee Snover. She screams at the top of her lungs at people in meetings and whines incessantly about noone listening to her. She is a rude, elitist with some serious issies. Ron Angle, he is poison wherever he goes...clearly the voters had enough of his antics. It is not the MAJORITY of NCRC...because those that support Robert are not a bunch of self serving, attention seeking bullies. The MAJORITY are respectful, good hearted Republicans with more class than screaming and stomping tfeet if they dont get their own way. Lee Snover, Mary Barkett, Dorothy Niklos and Ron Angle made an elderly woman so upset shd left in tears with the way they treat people! This whole thing is so skewed toward Robert Kerr. Why havent you reportex that MezzCappa has been working for and support ing Jen Sletvold? Sletvold for judge having a gun toting racist on her team!! The reality is there is a grouo of 6 or 7 extreme Tea Party extremists out of over 120 that just sank themselves.

  14. 9:52 and 9:55, You forget I was at the meeting and saw Kerr's dictatorial style first hand. Let me add that when Ron Angle and Peg Ferraro are on the same side of an issue, chances are they are right.

Kerr's mistake is that he used his position to consolidate his own power instead of getting Rs elected. That's why a county party exists. It is not some power trip.

And Lee Snover did not make fun of that young man. She was joking with him, and only thin-skinned power mongers are unable to see that.

  15. Lee Snover is utterly rude. She screams at everyone and has no respect for authority. She makes faces after anything someone says and always makes snide remarks under her breath. She is a cancer to the Republican party...

  16. If Robert Kerr represents the majority of te executive committee why did all the votes go 19 or 20 to 3 or 4 against him? If he has the respect of the general committee people did BOTH of his candidaite get 34 votes and the new guy got 64 votes.? look at the facts he has a small group of people who do not know what they do not know.

  17. Tricia Mezzacappa has not been seen at one single Sletvold event. SHe has made NO donations to that campaign no one on the Sletvold committtee has any contact with her. SHe is NOT on sletvold's committee but KERR asked her to say the prayer, which he would not have done if she were not working for his candidaites.

  18. Bernie,

What happens to the vacancy now? How does it get filled?

And was this the best time for him to step down? Right before a primary? Seems like he is shooting his party in the foot.

    Donald,

Why do you have a profile picture of you in a restroom? Is that some kind of secret code or meaning? It kind of creeps me out. I assume it is a restroom.

  19. I believe the party faithful will have to convene again.

  20. I do not guess you would think Lee Snover was peachy if she just ran you out of town. Those comments about her are from Robert, Tony or their huge following of four. She knows the by-laws and exposed their wrong doing and they can't handle that.

  21. Time to bring an "outsider" in. Anyone who has been part of the friction cannot unite. The R's need a strong leader and need to take the approach the Cardinals took. A people person not an elitist! An outsider not an insider. A reformist, not a traditionalist.

Lee Snover is as much a bigot as Tricia.

  22. I Simao,Kerr and DelWacko are still active on your blog, attacking women who have a brain. Wonderful.

  23. Sorry. I see Simao,Kerr and DelWacko are still active on your blog, attacking women who have a brain. Wonderful.

Hey, wasn't Robert Kerr an "outsider" to the party. Oh yeah, that's right, he was.

  24. So a light hearted joke to break the tension in the room is offensive to you? Yet how Peg Ferraro was treated is not? Its time to take your blinders off.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It was not a light hearted joke... she was obviously making fun of that boy. She doesn't care about others feelings.

  26. If that bothered you, you have way to thin skin for politics.

  27. Who was the last candidate supported by Lee Snover that won? Just pick the opposite of her and you'll have the winner.

She was also a vocal opponent of Roy and Mary and Dottie and was one of the happiest when they were kicked out. She'll just be screaming at the next person in charge.

She also didn't have any problem giving money to the Democrat Spadoni. What a great Republican!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Spadoni would love to have Lee Snovers support, unfortunately he does not. Take a look at his financial report. There are no Snovers on there.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Be careful what you ask for. You may just get it!

  30. To the "genius" who is running down Lee Snover. She is a very decent human being, and does not deserve you making up lies on her. You only have to look back a couple of weeks to answer your question. The answer to your question is the last candidate that she supported that won was Craig DeFranco for Vice Chair. Roy was not kicked out. He resigned. Lee Snover had nothing to do with that. Dottie cooked herself because she ran meetings in a dictatorial (and frankly nasty) fashion as well. Just ask Patrick. Robert got rid of Mary he says because he was spending all his time raising money just to pay her salary. All of this fits more in line with his little group's not being able to accept women who have a brain or opinions that may be different than theirs. A look at Spadoni's financial reports interestingly reveals that your accusations are false about her supporting the democratic candidate. Who is the idiot spreading the misinformation on Lee Snover? How about getting your facts straight before making your false accusations. Or, did you already know that what you were saying was false? Shame on you.

  31. The person to blame for the kid running for vice chair is Robert Kerr. How ridiculous to put for the kid up who had never even voted before to run for that position. He was taken advantage of by Robert and then dumped when it became apparent that he had no chance of winning. The County Chairman should have discouraged and not encouraged the kid running for that leadership position. If he gave a crap about the kid, he would have used his leadership to encourage him to become experienced and pay some dues before looking to lead the entire party. What horrible judgment.

  32. Lee Snover. The ultimate tea party cheerleader Loud abrasive aragant. Yup seen it all

  33. Seth Vaughn for County Chair. We need a true visionary. His girlfriend will keep us on track.

  34. The teabaggers are eating each other up. Vote for the candidate that will stop all abortions and give everyone a gun to protect themselves form the UN army taking over our counttry. You guys are great. Please don't stop, you are a Democrats best asset.

  35. We have a County Chair his name is Craig DeFranco.

    ReplyDelete
  36. What I find hilarious is that you people are classifying everyone as from the tea party. Actually, if you will notice, there is only a very small number from the tea party, who snuck in unawares and made a power play to take over the party to the exclusion of seasoned republicans. Those include Kerr, Simao, Carroll, Klocek, DelWacko, and Joy Hemming (the only words she can formulate are "Shut Up," at the top of her lungs"). Who pushed Dottie and Mary out? The tea party members helped divide the committee to get rid of them. Now the tea partiers are trying to bring people down by saying their opposition is in the tea party (a lie), while at the same time inviting everyone to the next tea party meeting. Priceless.

  37. The truth is Lee Snover shouts throughout just about everywhere she goes. She is an entitled brat. Noone had ever made any attacks on her intelligence. Her behavior is much like a misbehaved child in a grocery store, the one you roll your eyes at and feel bad for the helpless parent just trying to survive the tantrum. That behavior is also mirrored by Ron Angle, Dot Niklos, and Mary Barkett. That parent was NCRC GOP.
