Alfonso Todd To Run For Allentown City Council

I've only met Alfonso once or twice, but he's all over the Lehigh Valley. Although you're most likely to find him marching up and down Hamilton Street, I've bumped into him at Pizza Joe's in Nazareth.

On Christmas Eve, he announced that he's running for Allentown City Council under the banner, "We CAN Do Better."

Allentown, PA — City Council Candidate Alfonso Todd is pleased to announce that he has launched his "We CAN Do Better" Campaign. Earlier in the month, he conducted a meeting with Allentown residents.

“[T]here are people in Allentown, PA that can actually think for themselves, do for themselves, and intend to show others how to do the same and empower themselves," Todd stated. "It would not be a bad thing to have a City full of progressive and self-sufficient individuals (no matter what their socio-economic status may be) who only have Allentown's best interests at heart. This will be needed so that we can truly represent and make our home a place that both "Natives" and "Transplants" can be proud of because the reality is that it is going to take all of us to bring Allentown back to where it should be and to take it to the greatness that it can be.”

H'll be running in May's primary. You can learn more at his webpage.

  12. Remember, to get on council, you only have to come in 4th. Guridy almost lost 4 years ago. Mota couldn't crack the top three 2 years ago. Davis has never run. The people on the ballot aren't assured a win. People who work hard for votes by knocking on doors, raising money to send direct mail and show themselves to people who ACTUALLY vote (East Side, West End and parts of South Side) can win. Outside of his circle Alfonso has a limited reputation. Of course, the same could be said about Davis and Mota. I put his odds of winning at better than Mota.

  22. The anti-Alfonso Todd comments, along with the racist crack about Camden, all come from one and the same person. He does not really give a shit about any of the issues. He will make a racist crack about Todd, but at the same time, will call MM a racist. His agenda is hatred. This is the Blog Mentor. He actually has an enemies' list. He attacks people over perceived slights, and goes after their wives and children, too. He plays the victim while victimizing as many as he can.

Alfonso Todd refused to jump onto this hate train. So the Blog Mentor attacks ... anonymously ... then rolls around on the floor, foaming at the mouth.

  26. He actually has an enemies' list."

I don't have a list of people to hate. I don't have a list to publish, post online or even kept mentally about people to hate, but I've seen one published about frequently by another. It gives me great pause.

Such lists, published or not, remind me of the Columbine list, the shooter's compiled list of people who were thought to annoy him.

Back in the 1970's, a shooter appeared at the Northwestern Lehigh High School. That morning he shot his mother, then he shot toward the school bus. He was wounded in a shootout with the Pennsylvania State Police. They tagged him with a shotgun blast at the auditorium, which when then under construction. The purp was hit in the hip but survived.

We don't hear about it now, but I remember it because the school was abruptly closed. My family huddled by the Am radio listening to the account. He reportedly had a list of persons to be called into the office over the school intercom for killing. His name was Richard Allen Wilson, with a shaved head and bullied much in school, but I can't confirm that because the online newspaper archives don't go back that far. Besides, there must be thousands now who share that name.

My point is, be wary of those who keep a list of enemies.

Does anyone else remember this event? I often think of it on context to today, more recently then ever!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't remember that incident, NLVlogic. I do understand your point.

The Blog Mentor (wink, wink) is a mass murderer yet to come. He's a troubled soul that will move to the next level as soon as he realizes the current level is NOT working.

    WTF?

    9:27 AM

I have BIG dreams for Allentown and believe it CAN be in these same categories as the metropolitans. We need to come together ( communities, City officials, businesses ) and create viable projects that will promote Allentown as a mecca for Music, the Arts, and Entertainment. We have all the components needed to bring recurring tourism to this great city: location, talent, access, and the potential for profitability. True interest in the City will be renewed and small / large business and corporation investment will follow.

I believe the water "lease" should be left to a referendum for the public to decide. I do understand the need for Allentown to obtain money to pay pension costs, and other debt, but this is a MAJOR asset that we actually OWN and to lease it for 50 years with no real control over how the private owners lease it to the residents/businesses make me wary. As it is currently defined, I can not support the lease.

    5:44 AM

I just gave my stance on the water sale in previous comments. I do believe it is shameful how the parks seem to be the last item on the City's agenda when it comes to repair / up keep, especially when one of Allentown's greatest assets is its' park system. This goes back to the importance of the City seeing the true value of Allentown's commodities to attract tourism which will, in turn, create traffic / growth / prosperity. We have all the components needed to bring recurring tourism to this great city: location, talent, access, and the potential for profitability. We need to start putting more value in our park systems which is what Mr. Trexler, himself, expected us to do. We also have to take into account the importance of public responsibility/involvement. I have personally witnessed the Park Departments response to issues that have been brought to their attention in a timely manner.
The speeding, booming systems, double parking, etc are value of life situations that do need to be addressed. They did it for cell phones (before it was deemed unconstitutional because city vehicular law has to be uniform with the state)so I am unsure why these nuisance laws aren't being enforced more regularly by law enforcement. However, this is certainly a question that needs to be brought up at the upcoming City Council meeting.

I have owned my OWN business for over 9 years. I cultivated it from club photographer in the DL Nightclub to my current downtown office in the Hamilton Business Center of ALFONSO TODD AND ASSOCIATES / PROLIFICK MEDIA. (Tax info available upon request) I turned a "hustle" into a legitimate business WITHOUT any welfare, grants, or "handouts", as many say. My finance experience has been gained from many years of making wise fiscal decisions that took me from a KODAK One-Step in an Allentown after-hours club to currently having a clientele list that includes the Nazareth Chamber of Commerce, The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, various entrepreneurs, real estate agents, medical doctors, chiropractors, and nutritionists. I don't believe any of these professionals would just pay money to ANYONE on a monthly basis for nothing. (smile) I have created several quality annual Lehigh Valley events that attract hundreds of residents and out of state attendees. I make my money from the vendors/sponsors which means I have to organize, cultivate clients, distribute funds, promote, and establish a positive experience for each attendee, sponsor, and vendor. I have been "self financing" my projects and events since the beginning and for years.

EDUCATION - If you dig deeper, you will see I attended the University of South Carolina and then transferred to Benedict University where I majored in Public Relations and Advertising. After completion, I went into healthcare and became a consultant after 4 years.I traveled extensively across the U.S. teaching classes in "billing and coding". After tiring of the constant hustle and bustle, I did my last project at Easton Hospital, after which I moved to Bethlehem, PA and tried out several entrepreneurial endeavors and, unfortunately, none panned out. I was then hired by St. Luke's Hospital- Fountain Hill and stayed there for 3 years. Unfortunately, the itch for community involvement and entrepreneurship got the better of me, so I quit and jumped into the fray and NEVER looked back.... So, as you can see, my education includes college AND real life experience. It has been a while since I worked in Corporate and had a desk / cubicle and received a paycheck. If I placed all of my experience on a resume' I would be totally OVER QUALIFIED for a lot of things here in the LV, in fact I have been literally told this. I actually had to REMOVE items from my resume to GET a job when I first moved to the Lehigh Valley. TRUE STORY.

The reality is I just met with the UNIONS last week and will be meeting with the Women's, Latino's. Syrians, Jewish, African Americans etc, as well as big business, small business, Chambers, etc and the well as the West side, East Side, South side, etc. This is NOT your Dad's election anymore Joe Cisco. People WANT something different and are dissatisfied with the current administration due to past decisions. They want "movers and shakers" with more than a plan, but a proven track record that they know how to make things happen and have the capability to put Allentown back on track.

Joe Cisco said, "He is also can be quoted as saying " I am independent, creative, and a community organizer with no political ambitions what-so-ever."

I see Joe is STILL taking things out of perspective and promoting them in a fashion to change the interpretation. This s a quote from my FACEBOOK page and what it actually says in its' entirety is:

    WHILE OTHERS TALK, I DO.....

Eclectic, chameleon-like. I love the streets and the game, but always end up in the corporate and business side of things. I like to turn hustles into legitimate businesses. I am independent, creative, and a community organizer with no political ambitions what-so-ever. Maybe I should re-think that option....

So, as people can see, people will always try to throw dirt or grime on something even when there is none to be find. So most try to make some up, which is laughable to me; apparently, people have forgotten my blogging from years ago and the people I REALLY spoke for and against. So, I am pepared and willing/ready for the worst.

In fact, I welcome the insinuations and rumors, because on the flip side, it could be worse. People could say NOTHING which would mean I had no relevance at all. So, I say keep on talking about me, positively or negatively because you are making me famous.....

Arrange am advisory council of Allentown center city religious leaders as a sounding board.

Put a phone number on everything so people can call and directly speak with you.

Host community meetings everywhere. Once a week and publicize it.

Would that be the building where the gun play and shooting took place and which had been hosting dog fighting on the basement?
Down by the old bus station?
The one where the dog fight wear held?
That building, or am I mistaken?

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
