Simmons Win 131st State House Seat By 448

Justin Simmons (L) and Kevin Deely (R)
For Justin Simmons campaign manager Mark Sterner, the past few days have been pretty nerve-racking as elections officials in two different counties have tallied votes in a surprisingly strong challenge by Easton High School teacher Kevin Deely. Simmons saw his Lehigh County lead dwindle to just one vote at one point in the process. But now that all the absentees and provisionals have been counted in both counties, Simmons can claim a 448-vote lead.

Acting Lehigh County Dem Chair Bar Johnston points to this election as proof that one vote really can make a difference. She's unsure at this point whether Kevin Deely will seek a recount. "That's a decision he must make," she tells me, adding that many Deely supporters are urging him to go for it. If he does, Sterner will likely have to be hospitalized.

Simmons' lead in Lehigh County has grown from one to 16, thanks to absentee ballots due yesterday.

In Northampton County, where canvassing of his district was completed today, a 430-vote lead went up to 432.

All told, the final tally in both counties shows him up by 448 votes.

  2. every time i see a picture of deely i want to smack that silly smirk off of his face.

  3. Bernie, What do you think the odds are Deely concedes? I don't think he is man enough. Guy in western PA conceded down by 114 votes. What's the problem?

  4. My guess is he won't collect enough $ for a recount, but won't concede.

  6. Wouldn't surprise me if Bar sabotaged Deely's campaign. Everyone knows she wants to run for the state rep job.

  7. SIMMON lost credibility with the electorate, due to his campaign's Childish behavior and his failure to be respectful of the other candidate.

  8. Childish behavior? Deely admitted on TV he knew nothing of an alarming quarry issue facing families across
    Lower Milford Township.

  9. He may not collect enough for a recount, but he can score a couple ounces of weed for his trouble.

  10. The Quarry is a non-issue,What has Sen. Toomey , Corbett or the DEP done?

How do you know this is official?

    ReplyDelete
  13. won't be official 'till after THANKSGIVING, when all the remaining districts have been counted. But that's the final vote count in that district, barring a challenge.

  14. "The Quarry is a non-issue,"

Not to people in that district.

  15. "The quarry is a non issue"

It was important enough for someone in Lower Milford to submit it as a question to the Business Matters debate, sounds like it means a lot to those people.

I am so glad to see this, now Deely can go back to the job that he keeps saying he loves so much, and the 131 gets to keep a great man as their Rep for 2 more years

  16. there should be a challenge due to all the shenanigans that happened in Simmons's home district on election day

    ReplyDelete
  17. His home district had a new elections judge and i understand a two hour wait. Had that not happened, his margin of victory would have been greater, doncha' think?

  18. it must be nice to be able to send your district office staff to man the polls, who pays for them?

No, he lost credibility a couple years ago when he first ran and we saw how dirty of a campaigner he was. I see nothing has changed.

  21. I agree with you he is a Dirty Campaigner. He takes lessons from his Barry Obama.

The residents also dislike his poor attitude and arrogant attitude.

  22. Bar johnston would make a great candidate and wipe the floor with Simmons but she is better suited for a congressional run. His views on womens issues and snot nosed attitude will be his downfall.

  23. How ironic that anyone would be complaining people who believe in Simmons were working for him on election day when their offices were closed and they had the day off. The better question is why so many teachers took the day of to work a poll for Deely and had to have a substitute paid to cover their classroom. It cost the taxpayers twice as much.

    ReplyDelete
  24. State employees have off on Election Day always have. Who paid for all the substitute teachers who had to fill in for all the teachers that worked the polls for Deely? Answer taxpayers.

  25. Dirty campaign? Can anyone tell me what a state rep can do to social security? Deely said Simmons was going to take that away from seniors. Scaring seniors about something a state rep has nothing to do with is dirty. Telling the truth isn't.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The only dirty campaign was run by those who decided to lie about Simmons having anything to do with taking away social security and medicare when Deely knew, or should know that those are federal issues. His campaign used the same scare tactics democrats always use. Simmons stayed on the issues including the fact that Deely cost the taxpayers of Easton more money. All of us who live in Easton are disgusted with Kevin Deely knowing that he only cares about lining his own pockets.

  27. Simmons has obtained a Salary and done nothing in Harrisburg for the average taxpayer.
He is also unavailable in his District, Many residents refer to him as the invisible man.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The only thing here that is invisible is you.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The only irony here is that critics of teachers vilify the very people that taught them to read and write.
    Shame on them!

  30. Don't take credit for Justine Simmons, He was incubated!

  31. Guy Williams..

Your comment that Bar Johnson would wipe the floor with Rep. Justin Simmonns makes me laugh. As head of the Lehigh Valley D C she approved Deely running against Simmons.??? She also had every opportunity to run against Simmons this election but did not.
Simmons has beat Beyer, Horton and Deely .IN FACT...
SIMMONS BEAT THE OBAMA MACHINE THIS ELECTION !
Therefore...I dont think Mr. Simmons really cares who runs against him the next election cycle. My money is on Simmons whomever the Dems run.

  32. Bernie...I agree with you that Deely wont get the funds for a recount. I am certain the Unions that supported Deely more than likely confided with Dem leadership as to whether a recount would flip the election. Dem chairperson throws in the towel which indicates to the unions its not worth the investment. This forces Deely to create his own recount fund.
The Allentown Obama voters wont support this because most of those constiuents dont know who Deely is ! Regarding Concession...Deely does not possess the character or professionalism to man up and call Rep Simmons. Thats what Union Hacks do.

  33. Bernie,

MEZZA would Wipe the FLOOR with littleman Simmons in an election.

    Lower Milford Pete

  34. Yeah, I'm sure a person whose whose blog header is "Bite Me!" and who seems to be obsessed with penis size will be loved by the voters. She can get her Blog Mentor to run her campaign and together, they can roll on the floor, foaming at the mouth.

  35. MEZZA, Could Beat Big Spender Simmons, in the next election.

Rep Simmons beat the Obama machine this election therefore I dont think he really cares whom you both think will beat him next election cycle. My money is in Simmons whomever the Dems offer up !
