What Would You Do With Pawlowski's Hole? Part 2
Yesterday, I asked you what you would do with Pawlowski's hole in downtown Allentown. Lots of great suggestions, including Central Park.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
That actually doesn't look half bad.

DeletePut your name if you have local ties with this flopp, I seen you busti a slob with ms giggles and jiggles on the front terace of the Butz building before the mudhole saga began?
I like it. I would suggest a picnic pavilion dedicated to New Latinos of the Lehigh Valley. They could hold their meetings in the park and hand the campaign checks directly to King Edwin.
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, I went down to the site last night to get out of the house and there's a bit of local excitement in the air. People were taking photographs and a couple of local residents were passing the time yelling out to motorists "Hey how do you like the pit? Your tax dollars are paying for it". Almost an informal protest of sorts.
The idea of an Allentown Central Park on that site is a pretty good idea when you think about it. It'd probably do more for the neighborhoods surrounding it than the arena would.
ReplyDeleteYou could do a lot in a big flat space like that.
We can't even take care of the parks this town already has!
ReplyDeleteIf they open the park for hunting, I'm in there like swimwear.
ReplyDeletea central park makes sense. The homeless can have new digs and move out from under the 8th Street Bridge.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately this hole belongs to all of us.
ReplyDelete@ 2:03 Stop smoking crack immediately
ReplyDeleteI say frack the damn thing and be done with it. There's got to be some shale below all the porous limestone. There's certainly lots of uncaptured gas in center city Allentown. Jobs and revenues are guaranteed. No public investment required.
ReplyDeleteThat's a dirty question.
ReplyDeleteI think it'd be developed if the arena went away, just not with an arena.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's in downtown Allentown but it's a flat, city block sized piece of land with all the completed environmental studies.
I'd vote for urban farm, just for the irony. Fields of vegetables and livestock and of course, a barn.
If Allentown were prudent about the whole thing they'd be thinking about a Plan B. I know they aren't...it's personal now, but somebody should be thinking about how to develop that parcel and get the money back out of it to pay off the money already spent.
It could be called LAKE SIMMONS
ReplyDeleteI think if this all gets resolved within a year, they should build the arena as planned. If, god forbid, the suburbs find a way to drag this out longer, they should just screw it, make the "pit" totally tax free for 30-years (i.e. no property tax, no return all other taxes collected by the NIZ) and get a developer to build the swankiest office building money can buy. Hopefully it would bleed the 'burbs white for pulling this BS.

ReplyDeleteBest suggestion ever
Tomorrow, the Phantoms start contacting the folks who are signed up for season tickets. Can't wait till next hockey season. I will be sitting in my season ticket seats enjoying the best minor league action money can buy.
ReplyDeleteMinor league hockey is truly great. It puts baseball to shame. It is fast, fun and hard hitting action for three periods.
Can't wait! Sorry haters but this is life and I am living it while you can just keep hating.
Have fun travelling to New York.
ReplyDeleteYou'll be enjoying hockey from Pawlowski's mancave while your car is being put on blocks and Sam Bennett refuses to call the cops. There won't be any hockey in Allentown next year. Edwin says as much in his latest interview. Glen Falls is only about five hours drive though. Enjoy yer hole!
ReplyDeleteThe ice hockey knowledge of the NIZ Cheerleaders is revealing ...
ReplyDelete"The Adirondack Phantoms announced the dates for six games in the 2012-13 season, including the home opener.
The first home game at the Glens Falls Civic Center will be on Saturday, October 13. The traditional New Year's Eve game is also on the books. The Phantoms also listed its annual Black Friday home game over Thanksgiving weekend ...
... the complete schedule will be released by the AHL in a couple of months."
