Reilly & Traub Drop Out of DeSales NIZ Ethics Breakfast

Dr. Stephen Thode
J.B. Reilly is the major developer at Allentown's Neighborhood Improvement Zone (NIZ). Sy Traub chairs the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone Development Authority (ANIZDA). On Monday, I told you that both had agreed to participate in a $25 per head breakfast forum focused on NIZ ethical implications. It now appears that both of them have withdrawn.

Could this be because the third confirmed panelist, Lehigh University's Dr. Stephen Thode, is an ardent NIZ foe?

The biggest problem with Allentown's NIZ, from its very inception, has been a lack of communication. This latest snub reveals that NIZ supporters have learned nothing.

  1. Should we be shocked? I don't think so. Ethics??? We don't need no stinking' ethics.

  2. It's probably because Thode keeps shamelessly using his Lehigh cred to popularize misinformation in the service of protecting rich suburban developers from competition. You should research how much Team Sprawl is paying him for his services as a spokesman.

  3. You're a disgusting piece of shit, Jonathan. It is one thing to attack Steve Thode's views. But you attack his integrity. You watched the same debate I did, in which Dr. Thode makes very clear that he is being paid by no one.

Are you calling him a liar?

And amazingly, you are on the sidelines, waving pom poms for some rich Republican millionaire who very much is in this for the money.

In the course of his experience at LU, he has met and developed relationships with many developers, not just in the LV but throughout the country. But that does not place him on their payroll.

It is amazing that you would make this accusation when you obviously are using the time and resources of a George Soros non-profit to espouse your partisan political horseshit.

But that's what I'd expect from someone who dances on the graves of people whose political views differ from his.

  4. Maybe they simply can't afford the $25.00 breakfast fee?

    Jon Geeting

What has Steve Thode said that is factually incorrect?

Also, what evidence do you have that Dr. Thode is being paid by developers to act as their spokesman?

Would it be reasonable for me to suggest in a widely-read public forum that you are being paid by JB Reilly to argue in favor of the arena, and neglect to provide any proof of same?

  6. Geeting, what exactly do you have against what you call "sprawl"? Private individuals using their private property to create a mutually satisfying result. Why is any of that your business?

  7. Mr. Geeting,

Please provide copies of those massive checks I have received.

My wife is very interested in finding the money!

  8. Adrenaline aside, John Geeting's comment that JB pulled out because of Thode's presence is indicative of a problem in the NIZ-supporters' thinking.

JB should be HAPPY to discuss the NIZ with its opponents. That's what politicians would do. That's what anyone does in a civil debate.

It is the hallmark of the most extreme elitism to decline to discuss your project publicly simply because there will be a n opponent in the room and it is unpopular.

Look at the two most extreme opposites in today's national political spectrum --- Barack Obama and Rick Santorum --- both of them have views that could be considered far from moderate, but Obama speaks to tea party groups and Santorum speaks at places like historically black Cheyney University.

That behavior of putting yourself in front of detractors, even if they throw rotten fruit at you, is part of public life and if you choose to be the face of a public project of this magnitude in a democracy, then you must face the public.

Otherwise, you should look to operate in some fascist regime where business controls government----I hear el Salvador is nice this time of year.

  9. They are CHICKEN. Problem is they can't defend themselves, lie and and provide misinformation.

  10. Anon 12:27 PM,

You hit the nail right square on its head. So much of our society forgets this. And unfortunately today's youth are not raised in this ideal. It is nothing to put yourself in the company of people that are going to nod their head and then stab you in the back to get ahead. But integrity is built when you can civilly communicate your viewpoints to people that are opposed to your own. But at the end of day, everyone is self-centered and following the masses. The only time they will break step is when they see an opportunity for "self improvement." The morals and standards of the present society in U.S. are shameful. And what is worse, people will mock our postings as being weak, nonsense, and outdated.

  11. Geeting is Soros' towel boy. He despises the idea of an unfilled hole.

very interested in this as I too have been accused of getting money from Soros (I wish someone would pay me, all these "what is the NIZ" flyers are getting expensive.) can you give me some info on this so I can either 1, call Geeting out on this next time he derides the occupy movement or 2, hit them up for some donations.

  14. Ha ha.

Two on one ... and it's the NIZ Tag Team who runs away.

If the NIZ schemes, er, ah, plans are so righteous --- what is there to be afraid of?

Talk about cowardice under fire ...

  15. O'Hare @ 8:15 am - It amazes me you don't realize how much of a hypocrite you are. You attack Geeting for his comments on Thode, but you forget how almost everything that you write is attacking a person with out facts to back it up. For instance, you attack JB and Browne for conspiring together, but what proof do you have of that? None I imagine. Just remember people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

  16. JB Reilly and Browne grew up togther. They've known each other since they were kids. JB Reilly's attorney drew up the NIZ legislation, and gave it to Browne. Browne's Senate office is in Reilly's building. His wife is employed by JB's lobbying firm. JB is Browne's biggest contributor. I have plenty of proof.

  17. Bernie,

    Don't confuse them with facts.

    Facts are inconvenient.

    Facts don't permit fantasy.

    Same, shame, Bernue!
