Northampton County Only $17 Million in the Hole

Acting Fiscal Affairs Director Doran Hamman told Northampton County's Finance Committee yesterday that the County is swimming in red ink. As a result of the budget recommended by Controller Steve Barron, there's a $17 million gap between budgeted revenue and expenditures.

It's only money.

The County contribution to Gracedale is still slated at $6.245 million, but Human Services Director Ross Marcus warns that, of Governor Tom Corbett's budget is passed, the County will have to make up a $1.4 million loss in medicaid funding.

Gracedale's administrator, Premier, will present an operational assessment tonight, and hopefully will have good news.

  1. Maybe Mr. Marcus should move some of the massive amounts (millions) of dollars in over match in other Divisions to Gracedale. Gracedale carried them for years but now they should reciprocate.

Of course Stoffa and Marcus want to continue to tear down Gracedale.

  2. Word of this has been flying around. Mr. Barron has made it pretty clear that Mr. Hammond is over stating the problem. In fact he may not totally understand all the facts.

  3. Cut back Gracedale. There's no point in investing. We have a locked-in closing date and should not throw good money after so much bad.

  4. "The budget recommended by Controller Steve Barron" and voted on by the Republican majority on Council...

  5. That's accurate. Plenty of blame for an irresponsible exercise.

  7. Watched the video. Bernie Doran specifically said that 17 million most likely will not come to pass. Why no mention of that?

  8. Again, for the zillionth time, the old council passed a budget with no tax increase despite being told by the administration that they needed an increase..Steve Barron gave his opinion and Hammond gave his opinion..Neither of these two voted on the budget. Therefore neither of these two should be held responsible either way..Cusick, Thierry, Gilbert, Dietrich, and McClure passed a budget without the necessary increase..Blame them..

  9. Bullcrap anon 8:50 am, when someone like Steve Barron gives his "opinion" it holds weight both theorethically and literally. But it is not going to spin out as anyone's fault but the Governor. Everyone is going to blame the Governor for the unforeseen cutbacks.

Since I don't know what the hell you are trying to say, I am unable to respond.
