How Will Lehigh County Reassessment Affect You?

Information supplied by Lehigh County Director of Administration Tom Muller

  1. One would think that these are just numbers cooked up by the administration. The way I see it is that we won't know the truth until it is all over. And maybe not then.

  2. I've read nothing as to the net effect and actual results after accounting for the favorable treatment of farm and forest land under Pa Acts 515 and 319, which applies to the majority of lands in my district.

  3. The Director of Administration is a going to paint this thing any way his boss tells him to. What is this? do we have to learn politics 101 all over again?

  4. I've approached the reassessment in "wait and see" mode, but the numbers on this table are very worrisome. Basically, low income and high income housing benefits dramatically from this reassessment, while the middle class (which largely is in 100K - 200K) pays the cost. Even though it's close to 50/50, I have no doubt that the ones decreasing are only doing so by a small amount, while those increasing are going up much more on average.

Sadly, this reflects way too much of what's going on this country. The rich make out well, the poor don't contribute much to begin with and will now contribute even less, and the middle-class gets hit again.

  5. Regarding all the comments about "cooked" statistics, the attached chart is a very clearcut and valid way to look at the reassessment, and draw the conclusions I have above (2nd 3:30 Anon post). There's no systematic flaw in the way it is presented. However, if the data that went into the very easy to understand chart was "cooked" or altered in any way by anyone in the administration, they should be out of a job, along with anyone who put them up to it.

  7. Yes, there will be changes.

That's what happens when you wait 20 years to reassess. Waiting even longer wouldn't have helped it.

  8. No one takes anything Muller says seriously. He is a Cunningham mouthpiece given a job as demanded by Republican contributors.

I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics.
