LC Community Treatment Center to Open on Monday

On Monday, Lehigh County Exec. Don Cunningham is expected to announce the completion of renovations to the County's work release center, which is being renamed the Lehigh County Community Treatment Center. It has been expanded by 26,000 additional square feet, doubling the number of residents that can be accommodated, and significantly expanding the available program space. Lehigh County will relocate its Women’s Community Corrections population there.

The facility is in an out-of-the-way location between the Lehigh River and a portion of South Mountain, located in Salisbury Township.

Why didn't Northampton County partner with Lehigh on this project? Our judges would prefer that our inmates be located within our own County. Administrators might disagree with them about courthouse renovations, but when it comes to the disposition of criminal offenders, the executive branch defers to the court.

  3. That is actually Lehigh Mountain. South Mountain is a few miles to the south.
