GOP County Council Candidate Matt Connolly Behind on Real Estate Taxes ... Again

When Matt Connolly ran against Lisa Boscola for the state senate last year, she blasted him for failing to pay taxes on three Lower Saucon Township properties owned by his business, Matt Connolly Motor Sports, LLC. "Who are you gonna' vote for, somebody who doesn't pay his taxes?" she asked. Connolly did delay payments on those business parcels in 2008 and 2009. He explained, "I chose to cover other expenses, like paying my employees, instead of paying the taxes on the due date. Of course I did pay them, but they were late." Connolly was never late with his tax bill for the real estate he owns personally.

Now Connolly is the GOP's choice for the Northampton County Council seat currently held by Lamont McClure. And once again, Connolly is late on real estate taxes owed by his business. In fact, at the September 22 annual upset tax sale, one of them was exposed to sale. Nobody bid because of a lien, and it will now be scheduled for a judicial sale in January.

At the last minute, Connolly was able to pay $9,000 to keep the other two properties from going to sale.

How did this happen?

According to Connolly, he and a silent partner were each responsible for $5,500 of the bill. When his associate was unable to come up with his share, Connolly began scrambling for the rest, but it was not enough.

Connolly explained that the real estate market has been very tough for him. He lost a $100,000 loan when Easton's Mount Vernon Ale house was sold at tax sale, as well as another $48,000 when the Magic Wok lost its magic and filed for bankruptcy.

Connolly states he expects to have the funds for the third property in a matter of weeks.

Will this hurt Connolly? It won't help.

The seat that Connolly and McClure are fighting for includes Allen Tp, Bath, Bethlehem Tp, East Allen Tp, Freemansburg, Lower Nazareth Tp, Lower Saucon Tp, Nazareth, North Catasauqua, and Northampton.

I see most posters in your blogs attack you, as for me,
    I appreciate your candor.

  2. Thanks. Notice that most of those people are anonymous and their agenda is to shout me down in an attempt to control the message. It won't work.

  3. Im glad to see you exposing this. You usually go after Lamont, but i guess he pays his taxes.

  4. Okay, so the economy has taken a dump on all of us. I don't think a businessman who is struggling due to a bloated tax burden is all that unusual.

Half of the people appointed by President Obama couldn't pay their taxes. Tim Geithner being one of them and he's the U.S. Treasury Secretary!

  5. Matt has provided an explanation for what happened. I think it would be wrong to call him a deadbeat, but a less serious matter was used by Lisa Boscola last year. Whether it helped or hurt her is another matter.

It is part of the story in this race and needs to be told.

  6. As much as McClure sucks, Connolly doesn't suck as bad but he obviously sucks at basic business skills...

  8. Lisa can pay her taxes.

Her income is guaranteed. A drunken knob polisher at the public trough.

Not a personal attack. She is, on the record, an admitted drunk and knob polisher.

Now, a guy makes investments, takes risks, participates in the wealth creation that fills the trough from which Lickin Lisa slurps, and when things go bad and he can't swing his tribute, he's the bad guy?

Pay your taxes Matt, the pigs need slop!

  10. "which compared to other developed countries, are rather low."

You mean those "other developed countries" whose high tax rates still cannot satisfy their insane spending addiction? The "other developed countries which, at this very moment, have the world economy in an extraordinarily dangerous state?

Yep. Let's keep following the lead of those "other developed nations".

  11. It appears that Connolly did pay his taxes and despite business set backs due the economy only one remains in arears which he will be able to pay in a few weeks. He also pulled together enough cash to pay the partner's portion which was the reason for the problem to begin with .

Not a dead beat. His taxes are under control and at least he faces adversity and rectifies the problem honestly.

I think it is a sign of small business struggling and an hoest hard working guy doing what he should .

  13. SUPPORT THE JOB CREATORS. I AM LESS CONCERNED WITH HIN PAYING TAXES AS ORDINARY PEOPLE. AS A JOB CREATOR, HE MUST BE SUPPORTED.

  14. Lisa is a filthy mouth drunk who bragged about her strong preference for fellatio over intercourse. These are facts. That she is the subject of crude derision is unfortunate. Nobody would even think to discuss it had not a very voluntarily visible politician - who still seeks our votes - made her disgusting information known to all. This includes junior high and high school students in her district who read about it as part of their newspapers in the classroom program. She shouldn't be anywhere near public office for her vile behavior. And Matt Connolly is getting hard time from a lout who doesn't show up half the time to do his job. Connolly chose employees first. Boscola chose her knees and lips - then bragged. Lamont's a lazy no-show who still takes his check. That makes him a bona fide thief. Connolly is a saint in comparison.

  15. I've criticized Boscola quite a bit over the years, but it has been for her stands on issues, not her personal life. I wish you would tone it down on the description of sexual acts. Also, I have no knowledge that Lisa continues to be a drunk. If she were, I think word wold have leaked out. I will add that he is immensely popular and wins every election by wide margins. I think she's a panderer who knows how to get and stay elected.

  16. Wait a minute, dont be so hard on these businessmen, the so called job creators. They need lower taxes so they can afford them.Where does the job creation come in?

  17. For the record, and several days late, I know:

I am not 8:29 a.m., who does a much better job illustrating the point than I did.

Lisa said "someone who doesn't pay his taxes". In addition to her aforementioned "imperfections", that allegation is, as you point out Bernie, is an outright LIE. Connolly has always paid HIS taxes.

DBR - I insinuated nothing. Facts can be inconvenient and sometimes unpleasant. The fact is that Lisa falsely accused a guy with (as far as we know on the record) much greater personal character and integrity than herself, of a CRIME.

She is everything I said, and a liar to boot.

  21. The other funny thing here is that Matt ran against Lisa Boscola. Lou Pektor wipes her rear end whenever he can-she's even a tenant in his building. So Pektor plays both sides of the fence-not a big surprise!

  22. Matt's "silent" partner was none other than the infamous Lou Pektor, who has not paid his share of the taxes in other partnerships that he's been involved with. I'm questioning Matt's lack of judgment here. Who on earth-other than Richard Koze from Kay Builders-would go into partnership with Pektor?? Is Matt dumb or just crazy?

  23. Bernie,
don't let me down. I just saw a flyer aliking Lou Pektor to Bernie Madoff.

  25. I find it amazing that Matt has these employees that were still being paid. Who are these employees? Would have been nice for 4 or 5 of them to come forward and tell us how grateful they are because Matt kept paying them and they still have a job. That would have won him the election.

Now, Matt has a silent partner? That's pretty convenient. Also, he's going to pay the taxes in a few weeks? Let me guess, right after he gets elected. At least he has a partner who is silent, so we'll never know who he is.

So, we are going to elect a guy who continues to not pay his taxes but finally does when the property is ready to go up for auction (or when he runs for office). Then he has all of these other dealings (Magic Wok, Mt. Vernon) that seem to keep failing.

I guess he's going to run Northampton County down the path of bankruptcy and sheriff auctions. Maybe he can team up with a silent partner to hopefully bail out the county.

I pay my taxes on time and would cut back my lifestyle if I couldn't. He seems to keep coming up with excuses as to why he can't pay these items that are pretty much a fixed cost to a business. What's the next excuse, "My dog ate my checkbook."

  26. Matt Connolly's silent partner is none other than Lou "Madoff" Pektor. He's burned way too many people in the LV as the "silent partner". These folks who have been burned need to band together to send Pek##head to jail, where he belongs. I'd love to see him in an orange jumpsuit-quite his style!
