"Women still have this old-school mothering mentality that's increasingly out of step with where the economy's going. No wonder nobody seems to want to hire them."Or this?
"Darkies still have this old-school laziness that's increasingly out of step with where the economy's going. No wonder nobody seems to want to hire them."You'd all call me a misogynist and a racist, and you'd be right.
You wouldn't expect that sort of thing from blogger and fellow Patch columnist Jonathan Geeting. But yesterday, from LV Independent, he made this remark:
"Old people still have this old-school clock-puncher 9-5 mentality that's increasingly out of step with where the economy's going. No wonder nobody seems to want to hire them."Whenever I read Jonathan, my eyes start to glaze over after the third sentence. I feel like I'm getting a sermon. So I completely missed the shot.
Also, I'm getting old.
But other more alert readers, like Monkey Momma, were upset. Here's what she said.
"By the way, what is up with the 'oldsters' comment?? Age has nothing to do with this? Why would you publically discriminate on folks' judgement based solely on age? That's not very liberal, or even decent, of you."She's right. It's age discrimination.
Amazingly, this is the same person who screams "Don't Let the Bigots Gut Bethlehem's Anti-Discrimination Ordinance" in one of his screeds. At a meeting he never attended, he harangues Bethlehem City Council, "Did you really get into public service to pass this kind of hyper-incrementalist half-measure? People should do the right thing and deny the bigots and homophobes these sweeping religious exemptions."
Geeting, of course, is violating even the watered down version of the ordinance he supposedly supports. If he would like to see what a bigot looks like, he should check out the closest mirror.
It's not the first time I've read Geeting's slam on "old folks." It is a thread I've seen appear periodically on his blog. In all fairness, I have periodically accused Geeting of not having enough life experience to make informed judgements on some matters. I guess what comes around goes around, but I am surprised such discriminatory remarks are signed by him, when he espouses such "liberal" values.
ReplyDeleteI do not know Geeting, but I appreciate his passion. Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I don't. Well...sometimes I agree with him, but usually I don't. Anyways, I think the guy just writes SO MUCH stuff that he fails to consider the implications of all his words sometimes. In other words, he lacks experience. Sometimes I wonder if his blog will be a careeer killer one day for him - with that much stuff on the public record, anyone who takes the time to read a month of his material will find SOMETHING offensive. I hope that baggage won't be too heavy for him when he's OLDER. (And wiser! :))
If Bethlehem City Council passes the new discrimination ordinance we could have Jon Geeting brought in front of the commission for saying what he did.
ReplyDeleteThis is just further proof that Jon Geeting is nothing more than a George Soros puppet who claims the title of "information broker" at Open Society Institute. It is no secret that he wants nothing less than the destruction of America and the values which have made it such a great country.
Perhaps the real question Jon should be asking is; why do people of retirement age have to continue working? The answer is simple, it is due to Socialists like Jon who keep raising taxes, fees, and decreasing services. A fixed income can only go so far.
In the end I am comforted by the fact that Jon too will get old, and there will be some punk know-it-all kid out there who will make him feel like he is worthless.
Wait a minute, I'm no Geeting junky, but can you honestly say there is not a difference in management styles in new hot youth oriented companies (Google, Apple, etc...) vs. the older established companies (IBM, P&G, etc...). Go into the new companies and look around, see the people cutting out for a few hours during the day but still working on their projects at 2am. The 9-5 era is dead, we have to adjust to a new style its nimble but just as demanding. I have read if you don't have someone with purple hair, tattoos and multiple piercings your falling behind the curve. Read Jim Collins Good to Great. I struggle with this philosophy often.

Anon 7:42 taxes are the lowest they have been since 1950.

Liberals and their passive, reverse racism are a curious thing to watch. Whether slamming old people, feeling compelled to mention a black politician's 30-year old athletic past or peddling programs that promote low expectations, it's standard operating procedure for the crowd that works very hard to salve their guilty consciences.
ReplyDeleteI love these left v right debates. I should say left v right spin. The right deplores big government, liberal thinking and socialistic programs, yet defends the military including the VA health care.Im always hearing granny cant afford her taxes, when they should be saying they dont wanna pay taxes to support granny. The left is just as bad. They want more social services. In my book thats more baby sitters in schools, goverment programs and prisons. So as usual nothing gets accomplished and Bernie has a field day coaching this piss and moan session.
ReplyDeleteSeamus,
ReplyDeleteThis has nothing to do with the difference between the management styles of "hot youth oriented companies" and the more traditional business. This has everything to do with discriminating against an entire class of people (the old), right down to saying it's no wonder nobody will hire them. That is ageism. That is what Jonathan is doing.
I know many younger people with a 9-5 mentality. I also now many older people who are capable of thinking outside the box.
Jonathan is a bigot.
"I love these left v right debates."
ReplyDeleteThere is no "right" or "left" in my post. It's about ageism and how ironic it is that the proponent of an antidiscrimination ordinance would himself be a bigot.
OT comments are being deleted, no matter how many times they are posted.
ReplyDeleteI've pretty much taking anything he posts seriously. He has a great deal of passion and information, but not much in common sense. God help him if he ever runs for office. He will get annihiliated by his own words.
ReplyDeleteHmmm "fails to consider the implications..." I think LVEDC should offer Geeting a job - I hear they have an opening!
ReplyDeleteBy the way Bernie good job on reporting that story - Really nice of you to give the MSM something to write about.
Seamus -
ReplyDeleteWhat world are you living in?
Total up your income tax, your FICA tax, your Medicare Tax, your sales tax, your property tax, your communications and cable taxes, your gas taxes, etc. and see where you come out.
Well Patrick, adjust the dollar value for inflation and you tell me.
ReplyDeleteI was not alive in 1950 let alone have any assets, so I'm just going by reported numbers.

One wonders if Geeting has a life at all beyond his pounding on the keyboard and publishing his diatribes. And his focus on agism appears to be quite revealing. He apparently cannot make it in the 'real world' in any meaningful way so he finds it convenient to blame older management and leaders for denying him his destiny.
ReplyDeleteWell, I say horse manure! While he may have an education, he has not learned much in his relatively short life. His animosity toward his 'elders' is quite revealing and, btw, explains a lot about his hero, B. Obama.
I suggest Jon try and find gainful employment and pay some dues as those in positions of responsibility have done. Experience is a great teacher.
he does have another life - he and bo like to bunga bunga
ReplyDeleteIt is clear why Geeting jumped so quickly to Ms. Williams' defense when she was canned at LVEDC last week. This post was on her Facebook page some time ago:
ReplyDelete"Dear old people - I love you but PLEASE do not go grocery shopping on the weekend. You're OLD and therefore hopefully retired. You could go any day of the week! Please don't clog up the grocery store efficiency with your slow decision making, cart blocking nature for the rest of us working folk. . . . K thanks."
Spoken like a true past president of the "Young Professionals of the LV." Well, she can go shopping anytime she wants to now that she is no longer a member of the busy 'working folk' group.
She and Geeting are birds of a feather and should flock together and leave the rest of us alone.
