LV Chamber of Commerce Cutting Pay 20%?

I haven't had a chance to check this out for sure, but am reliably informed that all staff at the Greater LV Chamber of Commerce is taking a 20% wage cut. Nobody is immune, not even CEO Tony Iannelli.

  1. Their foundation effort was a financial disaster

  2. Since Iannelli makes a million dollars, I don't see the problem. Besides half the employees are getting a paycheck through local elected office gigs.

  3. iannelli doesn't make a million dollars at the chamber. it is a big salary, but this is a bold face lie.

  4. My guess is Iannelli makes about $150K in salary, and another $30K in "perks." Perks (and I speculate) like Chamber paid country club memberships, lunches/dinners, possibly a vehicle lease or stipend, free golf, tickets to social events, sports games, entertainment (he probably sponges tix to shows at Atown Fair and Musikfest), and maybe others.

  5. Im not a memeber, but since the only business growth in the LV seems to be in the tattoo parlor/pawn shop space, how can the chamber not be impacted by the obama economy?

  6. what's sad in the 20% number is that there are several assistants that don't make 30k today. they'll be making even less and they do the real work of the organization. its the vice presidents that ride their coat tails. seriously, 26 employees: 3 are grant funded, 2 are heavily funded by Bethlehem. 4 executive vp's. 7 vp's. Add in the President and you have 12 executive type titles in the organization. who the hell creates that kind of organization? It's like somebody wanted to create a fake corporation. I'd start by getting rid of the 4 executive vp's and make the President actually be an executive. I'm sure that will save 300-400k and save the lower paid people from pay cuts.

Isn't the chamber nonprofit? Shouldn't all salaries be public?

  8. The chamber is nonprofit and its top salaries are revealed in 990s, but those are filed abut a year after the fact.

  9. Tony drives a M-Benz, not sure of the model.

  10. The only thing more bloated than the exec salaries at the chamber is Tony Iannelli himself. You could tie ropes to that dude and they'd let you float him in the Macy's Day parade.

Truly the caracature of the blue-haired R, the one that keeps so many good people loyal to those that promise to soak the rich.

Get rid of the Chamber types like Tony and conservatives wouldn't have to waste resources fighting the myth that we are all fatcats looking to get rich on the backs of labor, outsource jobs, etc.

  11. No question the Chamber is top heavy. That is one of the problems. It has one of the highest dues structures in the Nation and is "corpulent" in its pay and so-called executive staff. Most of its Vice-Presidents are patronage jobs for Republicans that lost jobs elsewhere.

To the business men out there. The Chamber is your "image" problem. When people tout the absolute fiscal genius of the private sector and folks see the waste and gluttony at the Chamber, they tend to be at the very least skeptical of you business acumen.

I think this over-weight Chamber(puns intended), has expanded as much as it can. The smaller local Chambers are more in touch with their area's and some LV members are dissatisfied with this little empire of inefficiency.

A 20% paycut is a last ditch effort to save a group that has proven to be unnecessary except to the ego's of a few people.

  12. The Chamber has been mismanaged for years under the direction of Mr. I.

Why do you think he is blackmailing LVEDC for $50,000? Because he needs money. This despite have a huge membership, with enough VP's to govern a small nation. The chamber charges membership fees and still hits up its members for cash to attend their own events. Nice work if you can get it. Where do I sign up? Only the bold can get away with that and only the sheep allow it.

    You get what you deserve.

  13. So much for the "intelligence and competence" of the private sector. No wonder the economy is in the toilet. But hey, as long as Tony has a TV show, I'm happy.
