You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
Pennsylvania's 15th District: For the past several election cycles, Democrats tried unsuccessfully to lure Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan into the race for this Allentown-area seat. He finally said yes this time around, and Democrats think his Bethlehem base and outsider profile give them a shot to upset Rep. Charlie Dent (R) in a district Obama carried by 13 points in 2008.
ReplyDeleteWe'll know where this stands this Sunday. That's when the next MCall/Muhlenberg poll is coming out. I wonder if that will be the only poll used to determine whether Towne gets into the Morning Call debate. He needs to pull 5% or he's not allowed.
Dems are in huge trouble this cycle. They will probably only take 4 of that top 7. That is bad news if that is the top of their list.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the Sunday poll. However, I must say that considering we have a Congressional, Senatorial, and Gubentorial election in PA this November, that unless you are a political junkie and purposely look for information this has been an unusually low-key election cycle thusfar. To me that is advantage Republican, as it would predict a lower voter turn out unless something ingites a fire of interest in this election cycle.
ReplyDeleteAs to the post itself: as someone who bolted temporarily from the GOP out of disgust for our budget deficits (which seem sadly tame to our current) and the unnecessary war in Iraq, I would say to those tempted by Towne that your vote would be a vote for Callahan. That sentiment might keep some away from the polls, but the reality is if you (tea party elements) can not mount a successful primary challenge (as some have been able to do in other states/districts) then a GOP vote in the General election is the closest shot you've got. I may be sympathetic to parts of your message, but to me you have go with reality at election and try to keep building momentum to be a forceful bloc within the GOP to have any influence.
When did the Morning Call announce they were going to release poll information? I hadnt seen that announcement.
ReplyDeletePermission for OT,
ReplyDeleteI watched Business Matters tonight. Oh my god! Angle bitch slapped Stevie Barron all over the station. Barron sounded and looked like Elmer Fudd. He must have been in shock after that taping.
Stevie has some work to do if he wants to be Governor.
Shit, I missed it. I'll definitely watch it online tomorrow. I wonder if Ron knows it was on. This was taped before we knew about Barron's extracurricular activities.
ReplyDeleteI saw the show. I also though Barron was the weakest by far. Gilbert sounded reasonable. Grucela was straightforward about his beliefs. I can't damn a man if he is honest about his beliefs and I felt Grucela made some good points and Gilbert agreed.
ReplyDeleteThe big show was watching Barron get manhandled by Angle. I would agree that Mr. Barron is not quite ready for prime time.
Personally, I would like to see if Gracedale can be salvaged and I though Grucela made a fair proposal. Barron just sounded like a fool.
Time will tell.

ReplyDeletebarron's not ready for prime time.
any word on that campaign funding research you were gonna do Bernie on angle?
Callahan must be kicking himself for not running 2006 or 2008. He very well may have beaten Dent in those anti-Republican years.
