You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
My experience has always been if you want traffic to stop for pedestrians, you put up "stop" signs. These little signs that require drivers to stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk are useless.
ReplyDeleteBernie, do you know if Washington Street a state or local street?

ReplyDeleteErv McLain was plastered a few years ago while walking between thse little signs.

ReplyDeleteI'm guessing local, but Stoffa did state that PenDot did the traffic study.

ReplyDeleteBernie, infortunately this is a PennDOT issue. Their rules are made for the burbs and most have no bearing on urban life. The city did place stop signs there earlier but we were able to get a temporary permit during courthouse construction. The issue is that there would be two stop signs within the permitted footage. Well that works well in 1/4 acre subdivisions but doesn't work in cities and core communities.
Another one that annoys me is parking 30 feet from the curb. Most of our buildings are ten feet from the curb so we lose two spaces on every intersection in town.
Just a point of clarification.
Thanks, Mr. Mayor
ReplyDeleteYou know.. why doesn't Stoffa worry about the pressing County issues and not these local issues. This matter should be taken to the City of Easton for resolution, if in fact there is a real problem, not a perceived one.
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't know, but when a County worker is struck by a car while trying to cross the street, that sure sounds like something that mght concern the Executive.
ReplyDeleteIs Stoffa still around? I thought Angle was running the County and Stoffa was staying home painting birdhouses.
