Permitgate: A-town City Council VP Signs Onto Ethics Complaint

Allentown City Council VP Michael Donovan, a Democrat, has joined the City ethics complaint filed against Mayor Edwin Pawlowski by Allentown GOP Chair Bob Romancheck.

  1. Councilman Donovan seems to be an upfront person, but isn't that ethics board comprised of individuals selected by a city's mayor?

  2. Yes. It will be dismissed, but I have another idea.

  3. Donovan seems to have taken on an adversarial role of late. Curious.
The ethics committee is itself of dubious integrity. This all could be very amusing.

  4. No circus is this entertaining.

Did Mayor Ed get the NFL Sunday Package for the widescreen in the cave? It's supposed to be better than sex and air conditioners.

  5. Will the ethics complaint be dismissed?

    Eck thinks so.

Failure to acquire a proper permits is address under the City Zoning Ordinance and is handled through the Zoning Officers office.

However, if the work performed was required to be inspected under the state wide building code, the remedy could become costly.

Blaming the contractor for this dilemma makes the mayor look incapable of any oversight.

If you can find a friend in the building trades to give you an honest estimate of whatever Pawlowski had done in his basement and compare it to a traditional costs analysis,
    that will be of importance.

  7. I appreciate Donovan acting appropriately on behalf of Allentonians. Someone needs to hold the mayor accountable. It is a shame that the ethics board will dismiss it, but the formality is appreciated. With no Republicans, at least one Democrat will I'm happy to see one Democrat challenge and hold this mayor accountable to the citizens of this city.

  8. Anon,

There are Republicans in Allentown and I give Romancheck credit for pursuing this story. However, too many, the press included have allowed the city Democrats use of the term “partisan” as an excuse to instantly dismiss the legitimate concerns we have raised. I could supply a list of examples.
This marks a new page in the city, for the first time in my memory a Democrat has joined onto a legitimate Republican complaint. Too bad it didn’t happen with the police contract or any other issues in the past ten years.

  9. At the top of the heap, politicians of both stripes are made of the same stuff. It's when you get to the rank and file where you can tell the difference between R's and D's or, more accurately, conservatives and liberals.

The right will throw their own bums out. The left will keep them in power out of fear of losing the scraps tossed to them by their overseers.

Pawlowski is just the latest example.
