Calling All Comrades

When Joe Long was elected Northampton County Dem Bossman four years ago, it was a hushed up affair. In fact, his election occurred before many committee persons knew they had been elected.

In a hopeful sign, the Northampton County Dem web page actually contains a notice about the next election. It's scheduled for next Thursday, June 17th, in Courtroom #1 at the Northampton County Courthouse, 669 Washington Street Easton, PA 18042. Check in is at 6:30PM, but the meeting itself does not start until 7:30PM.

According to the notice, "Guests are welcome to observe. Only those elected committee persons shall have the right to vote. At this meeting committee persons will elect the County Chair and the Vice Chair who will serve for the next four years. Therefore, it is imperative that all committee persons attend."

I've told you before that Joe Long's preferred successor is Walt Garvin, who chaired the Elections Commission and was an unsuccessful candidate for County Council last year. Garvin is opposed by Michael Laws, who will take steps to ensure that "everyone can participate in a big tent. Not just a certain few."

What about the Chairman of Vice? Most of you are probably thinking of me, but by-laws provide that if a male is elected chair, the vice-chair must be female.

And then there's some kind of mating ritual.

  1. It's important that people in certain positions possess the correct, specified plumbing. If D voters really had a choice, there would be no gender nonsense and the best man or woman would be elected to serve the party. For now, we go by private parts.

  2. There is no known female seeking the chairmanship. If a female emerges and wins then the Vice-Chair must be a male. I myself think Mike Laws would make a fine chairman. He is a gentleman and knowledgeable about the politics of winning.

  4. Anyone can be nominated from the floor. As long as there is a second, they get voted on.

So Ohare can nominate someone and get his buddy Steve Barron to second it. Barron is a high ranking muckidy muck in the County Dem machine so he could pull some votes with him.

In a three way race anything is possible.

  5. I hope the Democrats are being charged for use of the courtroom.
The county could use the money, especially afterhouse when we probably have to pay overtime for the security at the door

  6. I hope Laws can get the zoom out button fixed on his camera.
