Dent Grabs US Chamber of Commerce Endorsement

LV Congressman Charlie Dent has just accepted the endorsement of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, according to a news release just issued by his campaign. The Chamber, which represents three million job-creating businesses and organizations, states that Dent's re-election "will produce sustained economic growth and help create more jobs.”

Congressman Dent has also been recipient of the Chamber’s “Spirit of Enterprise Award” for his pro-job voting record in three consecutive sessions of Congress.

Congressman Dent is "honored" by this endorsement because "it reflects my long-standing efforts to foster an environment where employers create sustainable jobs.” He also pointedly noted that the Pelosi agenda, supported by his opponent, will stifle economic growth.

“[R]ight now, the Washington establishment is pushing an agenda that will stifle economic growth and job creation – an unsustainable health care entitlement that will impose mandates and new taxes on small businesses and innovators; an undemocratic ‘card-check’ bill to deny secret ballots to workers in union elections; and a national energy tax called ‘cap and trade’ that will cause business and family energy bills to skyrocket. This agenda of more taxes, more spending, more regulation, and more government comes at the expense of private-sector job growth. You cannot be for workers and jobs if you are against employers.

“This year I face an opponent who is on board with these failed, job-destroying policies, and who is supported by Nancy Pelosi and other Washington insiders who are pushing them. My opponent likes to take credit for jobs created by others, but jobs aren’t created by politicians. Jobs are created by the business members of the Chamber of Commerce and other pro-growth organizations. That’s why I appreciate their support. And I will continue to fight for common-sense polices that will support investment and innovation and put Americans back to work.”

  2. As a conservative who has to keep finding reasons to vote for Chuck, this doesn't help. The USCofC is part of the blue-haired wing that supports the off-shoring of jobs and other policies that are contrary to a strong middle class, and perpetuates the stereotype that keeps those of lower economic status from even considering conservatism as a possible solution.

  3. Anon 11:20, If you were truly a conservative, which you are clearly not, you would understand it isnt the Chamber or their policies that are driving jobs offshore. It is the U.S. tax structure and increasingly anti-business climate. Obama, particularly, has openly shown his disdain for private business.

  4. The USCofC is an interest group of big businesses. If you want to know what real small business owners are thinking, go walk down Main Street Bethlehem and ask them. They aren't members of the US Chamber. They are members of their local business association and find the big business interests to be disgusting. Look at the board members at the USCofC. It reads as a director of big business.

  5. The USCoC supports amnesty for illegals in order to maximize agri-biz profits. Business is business, after all.

Still, it's a strong, conservative-looking endorsement for a RINO like Charlie to receive.

Although the USCoC had nowhere else to go in this race.

  6. Republicans are all about sending jobs overseas. All Republicans are anti-middle class and pro Big Business and wealthy. I can't believe what I'm reading!

  7. I think we have an internal battle
within this country between the ownership class and the people who pay for it. The endorsement as a sponsoring tool is not surprising.

I predict we will have a new congressmen coming in November.

  8. This is great news for Dent. The way the economy is, the only way to get jobs back is to follow the leadership of groups like the US Chamber and Reps like Dent.

  9. Yeah! Democrats have no hands involved in spending jobs over sees.

This is why Americans are the dumbest citizens on the planet.
There ability of selective reasoning allows them to be manipulative so easy by the educated wicked overloads so easily.

  10. So now that Callahan knows that no one at the national level is buying his "pro-business" credentials, does that mean he'll stop trying to sell them in Bethlehem.

For the Health Bill (of goods)
    For Card Czech
For Cap & Trade (away jobs)
For Stimulus Bill (to our grandkids)

Dent is better for the economic times we find ourselves in.

Of course he has! His corporate bailouts prove it!

  13. Yeah, sure the US Chamber of Commerce is "satan."

Phheww. I bet the Callahan folks are breathing a sigh of relief that they didn't get that endorsement.

So much better to be endorsed by the SEIU.

  15. Obama's Index Approval at Rasmussen Reports is at - 22% today.

That is Obama's lowest rating yet as President.

More Democratic poll repondants --- that is what is needed to fix things.

  16. I am no supporter of the Chamber of Commerce, but if it is truly as bad as some of the posters here write, Callahan should issue a statement renouncing both the Chamber and its endorsement.

My guess is that Callahan will not do that, because

    1) it is not the organization that some here are trying to characterize it as, and

    2) Callahan would have loved the endorsement, surely attempted to get it as well, still wants the votes of local chamber members.

  17. The whole point of being a Republican is to screw the middle class and support Big Insurance, Big Oil, Big Banks, Bailouts, whatever it takes to keep the top 2% of the population rich because MAYBE SOMEDAY I might be one of them too!

  18. Actually, the biggest special interest lobby in the United States is the Trial Liars (I mean LAWYERS!) Association. Unions follow closely.

Businesses of ALL sizes belong to the Chamber of Commerce, just as citizens of ALL socioeconomic classes belong to the republican (and for that matter, the democratic) party.

Anyone who thinks "all Republicans" are ANYTHING is....well, pathetic. Are "all Democrats" exactly the same?

And if the Republican party REALLY only supported 2% of Americans....well, wouldn't it only have 2% of Americans registered?

People who make sweeping negative statements like many posted here about republicans merely express their own ignorance.

Are you sure you didn't mean
    42?

  20. 11:43 -

The two issues are not mutually exclusive. The tax code is a huge problem, but even with a zero tax rate, Chamber types would still stand firm against any effort to keep jobs in this country.

If you weren't a member of the blue haired set, you'd understand that.

Please at least do a minimum amount of research before posting. -22 refers to the difference between strongly approve and strongly disapprove. I didnt make the post above, but it wasnt like deciphering code.

Your ignorance obviously shows no bounds. The Chamber represents over 3 million businesses. The vast majority of those companies do not have one person overseas. Nice try. Callahan must be really disappointed if he has his blogoons making bizarre claims like this about the Chamber.

  29. It's the greedy unions and their democrat minion in Washington that are driving jobs overseas along with the obscene anti-business attitude of the Obama administration. They have been demonizing Wall Street and American corporations for two years now and wonder why our economy isn't growing. No new private sector jobs have been created with the stimulus program, and Obama keeps turning the screws on American businesses. Dent will win big in November as well as R's across the nation. The American free enterprise system is being eviscerated by this administration and the public is finally waking up from the Obama trance.

  30. This is supposed to be a headline? Wow, I guess Bernie will post a similarly positive and feigned surprise post when Callahan is endorsed by the Afl-Cio.

  31. "The Chamber represents over 3 million businesses."

They effectively represent only a small percentage of that number. The rest just send in their money and get a sticker for their door.

YOU do the minimal research at Rasmussen.

    Obama was at -22 yesterday.

    23% strongly approve Obama
    45% strongly disapprove Obama

that is -22 and is Obama's widest gap, ever.

you can read all about it at Rasmussen at your leisure

  35. "They effectively represent only a small percentage of that number. The rest just send in their money and get a sticker for their door."

You would think if that were the case then they would go to the dollar store and buy a sticker. The fact is that if the Chamber didnt adequately represent the large percentage of that number, they probably wouldnt be in the group. Businesses dont just throw their money out the door like that.
