Billy Givens Honored By Northampton County Council

For the third time, the widow of a former county worker was at last night's Northampton County Council meeting. She thinks she got a raw deal on her medical benefits and her husband's pension. On two previous occasions, then President Ann McHale encouraged her rants well beyond the ordinary five minutes, even though Council is powerless to help her. This widow broke down in tears on her first trip to the podium. During her second speech, she screamed at County Exec John Stoffa, who sat quietly.

That must have been music to Ann McHale's ears.

Before last night's meeting, the widow complained about where I was sitting because it obstructed her view. I'll have to start carrying a "Wide Load" sign. But she perked up when she saw McHale. "She's a nice lady. She really hates John Stoffa."

Last night, the widow had pictures.

Sometimes, courtesy of the floor can get goofy, although these are real people who are entitled to be heard. es.

At last night's meeting, former "Courtesy of the Floor" regular was honored posthumously for his years of dedication to Northampton County. Orator. Essayist. Pioneer blogger. Gadfly. Bon vivant.

Billy Givens.

Billy's beautiful wife, Kathy Parker, accompanied by her lovely daughters, accepted both the award and a kiss from Council President Ron Angle. Billy's cartoonist, Nancy Marshall, was also on hand, along with about five family friends.

Angle told Kathy that most people will grumble about government, but sit glued to their television at night. "People like Billy Givens are far and few between." Angle referred to Billy as one of his personal heroes and "one of the most marvelous orators" he ever heard. He "fought for what he believed in."

In heaven right now, Billy is probably giving Wayne Grube the bird.

  1. So a guy who came and bloated on nothing in particular gets an award from a group of council members who for the most part didn't even know the guy.

Hell, Angle can get this crowd to honor your floating turds Ohare.

Nice slam on a widow who is getting screwed by the county. You really are totally on the dark side now Ohare.

  2. You know Anon, yes Bernie is on the Dark side he is YODA,the bottom line is the world was a much better place thanks to the likes of folks like Mr.Givens.You are totally clueless as to just how much of a champion of the underdog Billie was!But then again you wouldn't know as you are one of those 2am posting bottom feeders unlike the honorable late Mr.Givens who spent much of his day fervently defending his beliefs and holding whomever he felt accountable. Ethics and principles guided him and I am sure he sped to a far better place where he and the other warriors of such caliber gather and watch as a new generation pick up the torch and continue the crusade.Give them hell,Billie...you are greatly missed!

  3. Why doesn't the bulldog drum up a false document and forge some signatures and get the woman the benefits she is due?

  4. Speaking of signatures, why don't you sign your name to your comment instead of smearing Angle anonymously? Let's see, there was a claim that Angle would destroy the Will. he didn't. There was aclaim he'd be too cowardly to take this to a judge. he just has. There was a claim he'd be prosecuted for forgery. That hasn't happened. There wasa claim he'd be sued in aweek for depleting the estate. That hasn't happened.

This is politilly contrived bullshit and explains why a person like Dertinger is dirt and why Lamont should not even think about seeking reelection.

  5. Really Ms. Weiss or whatever your name is this week. Why don't you print your rap sheet so you can show your involvement with the "dark" side.
