Obama's Root Canal

Barack Obama is a powerful speaker. He inspires. But what did he really say? Did he really solve our 10% unemployment?

JFK, in his 1962 SOTU address, spoke of putting someone on the moon. LBJ, in his 1965 address to Congress about civil rights, declared, "We shall overcome." Both boldly set out new directions for the country.

Barack Obama joked that the bank bailout was about "as popular as a root canal."

But he's been the dentist.

  1. He inherited a shit sandwich from Bush and is doing a great job given the realities. The GOP the Party of just say no, is playing politics with the American people and they will find in November 2010the Independents are wise to their bullshit.

  2. Obama is the joke.

And a stale, not-funny one at that.

    But whatever.

I thought the latest Obama teleprompter reading of some of somebody's finest propaganda went very well.

    Did anybody feint?

Don't you guys ever get tired of playing the TIRED, OLD, WORN-OUT RACE CARD?

Which one of Obama's failures would you like to discuss first?

    NO EARMARKS

    NO LOBBYISTS

    TRANSPARENCY

    NATIONALIZING CAR COMPANIES

OBAMACARE (can we go straight to tax exemptions for unions?)

    HOW WELL THE STIMULUS WORKED

    etc, etc, etc

  5. Obama has been and is a joke. His administration is full of people, including himself that have no "real world" experience and are now spending mine and every other taxpayer's money like little kids in a toy store. Thank God for what the Mass. voters did. At least it put some "check" into the legislative and administrative branches of government.

PS: Remember who has the majority in the US Supreme Court. Enough said.

I figured out where I would like to start the conversation with respect to Obama's failed Presidency :

    CAP and TAX

So, what did you think of Obama's last trip to Copenhagen?

    Productive, say.

  8. He inherited a bad situation and made it exponentially worse. As of last night, he's still blaming the last guy for his shortcomings. That's why he's as popular as root canal.

  9. I was very annoyed that the Republican that retorted at the end said "We had the best healthcare system in the world." According to whom? The World Health Organization puts us at #37. That's like someone saying, "America makes the best cars in the world!"

Some of Obama's fixes hardly rate him better than Bush and some of the sandwich's fixin's were done with the hearty approval of Democrats. Obama does acknowledge this to some degree (if you read his very fine print).
    .
The GOP has offered ideas and suggestions. Denial of them is just the Democrat Party playing politics.
    .
A honest appraisal of today's economic situation would be Americans drove themselves deep into debt and it will take years to get out of it. Until the national debt level is reduced, consumer spending will not be that strong.
    .
I was surprised Obama suggested more oil drilling. I think this would be wise and drilling would create more jobs in America will reducing our trade deficit. Even a modest increase in domestic oil production would have big effects.
    .
I'm no fan of Obama, but he did make a few good points. The question really is, how deep is his sincerity?

  11. Obama made it worse? It's amazing how uneducated people are about macroeconomics.

    Fox. Rant. Nap. Repeat.

  12. Obama also acknowledged nuclear power. It's about time someone did.

  13. Looking to Escape is right - some good points were made. Also some of the same crap was shoveled.

But the overriding question remains - how the hell are we going to pay for all of this?

  14. We know the GOP wants Obama to fail so they have no credibiltiy.

They are obstructing progress to set him up. Who are they hurting? All of US.

When they say they want him to fail, we should all turn them off. If he fails, we fail

Care to explain Chris Matthews' comments?

If you are going to play the card endlessly, the least you could do is play it with equity.

    Hypocrite. (and chump)

  16. "I will continue to try and change the tone...", said Barack Hussein Obama.

"We won, you lost", said Barack Hussein Obama.

He's been there a year, yet is still campaigning. He offered no solutions. He'll create a task force that will have no authority to impose its will on Congress. General rah-rah, no strategy, no vision.

Yes, Bush spent too much. Obama spends more. And instead of hearing the American people, as evidenced by the elections in NJ, VA, MA, and seeing the deep shit Harry Reid is in in NV, Obama doubles down on his losing agenda.

As for his promise of fiscal restraint, he is now proposing what he villified McCain for - spending freezes. Obama has no shame.

    He's unqualified. Plain and simple.

  19. The US did indeed rank 37th according to the 2000 WHO report, but this is an excellent example of why you should check the facts you think you're spouting. This ranking wasn't in comparison with other countries, but rather the score was based on how much we accomplish with our resources versus how much WE COULD accomplish with our resources.

In other words, using this scale, a down's syndrome teen who is a bagboy at my local grocery store (Yay, Publix for hiring him!) and excels may be accomplishing 90% of what he is CAPABLE of. My high school genius who went to MIT and now works in cancer research, but only 6 months out of the year is accomplishing about 40% of what he COULD do. If you were to rank these two individuals using the same kind of scale, you could say that the bagboy performs better than the cancer researcher, although the cancer researcher would generally be thought to contribute more to the common welfare.

Also note that this study did not grade the countries on number of breakthroughs in treating disease, affordability of life-saving drugs, etc., but rather on such touchy-feely criteria as life-expectancy, inequalities within the population, patient satisfaction, how well the different casts of society perceive the health system serves us, and most importantly, whether the government or the citizens bear the costs.

Well... we all know that American's aren't demanding at all, have completely realistic perceptions of what THEY have versus what OTHER people have, and are terribly disciplined about eating and exercising, so that obviously had NOTHING to do with how well we ranked.

Dissent is the essence of a democracy. Four years ago, it was liberals who were being called unpatriotic.

  25. Much was the usual "laundry list" that most presidents go through in their SOTU, whether they be D or R.

Two things jumped out at me, though.

    1. pointing out how in "the year 2000, America had a budget surplus of over $200 billion. By the time I took office, we had a one-year deficit of over $1 trillion and projected deficits of $8 trillion over the next decade. Most of this was the result of not paying for two wars, two tax cuts, and an expensive prescription drug program.".....While not defending the Dems this year (who have only continued the trend),I know IronPigPen likes to accuse of hypocrisy, but it does cut BOTH parties.

    2. I was shocked (and see it is now picking up traction on the net) when the 7 SC justices who were present got ambushed by the Executive and Legislative branches....I thought the bully tactic lacked class for the setting, regardless of your view of the court's opinion.
