Obama Tours Allentown Metal Works

President Obama strolled through Allentown Metal Works manufacturing facility on South 10th Street in the city's old industrial section.

Amid steel rafters painted green and showing years of wear and rust, Obama
talked with workers and company officials about the industry and the company's
prospects.

Obama asked president and COO Michael McSully how much the company has had make
in capital investments to modernize the factory, which makes heavy steel construction components, including trusses for the transit center beneath the new
World Trade Center.

Company officials ticked off figures in excess of $500,000.

The facility, once a Mack Trucks factory, dates back more than 100 years and now
employs about 65 workers, down from as many as 100.

Surrounded by massive cylindrical chunks of steel, the president also made small
talk with floor workers.

"Hey Dave," Obama shouted to one worker from a catwalk. "He (one of the company
officials) says you're a good golfer. You been taking his money?"

The worker shouted back: "Yeah."

    He visited a place with a 35% unemployment rate. They probably wanted to weld his ears together in back of his head.

    I heard that "Obama urged corporate America to help tackle the nation's highest unemployment in 26 years but also hinted at federal tax credits and aid to states to ease jobless woes".

    Bernie,

    Now that the rush and swoon of the presidential visit has passed perhaps we can reflect logically on his(Obama’s) proposed solutions to the nations problems. I think these are limited to further impugning of the productive sector and more deficit spending.

    Am I wrong?

    So, I have written posts that are full of overused expressions? Is “impugning the private sector” an overused expression? I don’t think so for until now this county had not had a president who so regularly engaged this practice.
    Rhetoric designed to incite hostility towards the private sector is simply pernicious. That is substantive criticism.
