Morning Call Loses Another Good Reporter

Pennsylvania Ave. blogger and Morning Call reporter Josh Drobnyk is the person who first broke the story about State Senator Lisa Boscola's chief of staff Bernie Kieklak and his penchant for dropping by this blog, late at night, with uncharitable comments about local political figures.

His boss was weighing a Congressional run at the time, so he had no love for Siobhan "Sam" Bennett, a potential rival. "Sammy Bennett is a phony political whore who gives good head and makes cheap, blatant political opportunists look like Mother Fucking Teresa. Even her pussy is made of plastic."

I miss Bernie. I hear he got a raise.

Drobnyk is also the journalist who drew attention to Bennett's comfy $110,000 salary at Properties of Merit, even though its annual budget was only $351,000. That pretty much ended her Congressional hopes before her campaign had even started.

On Monday, he'll be on the other side of the table, starting a new job with Congressman Chris Carney, a Pennsylvania Democrat from the coal regions.

The Morning Call has lost one of its best, but he's working for us now.

  2. Last time I checked, Carney works for us, doesn't he?

  3. Wish him well, but why would he have stayed at the Call when his days might have been numbered? A former Call longtime employee recently wrote that the photo dept. was required to move into editorial dept open space.

  4. So public offices are hiring reporters.

When is the paper going to start hiring ex public officials?

Course on one hand "the government" is a fast growth outfit. While on the other hand newspapers are not.

  5. PR positions in government are one of the hottest tickets for journos who have lost their jobs or those who see the writing on the wall. Teaching seems to be the other. They are just trying to survive, so you can't really blame them.

Not surprising, though, that they seek to trade one unaccountable position for another. Except for a few who try their hand at starting up a blog or other online venture, very few of them could actually do anything to generate a profit.

  6. When did this country become so obsessed with generating a profit. There is somethings that are done for the public good....I swear I always scratch my head when I hear the Christian Right talk about right wing financial ideas...kind of the opposite of what their founder talked about but hey, they are fascist, Hitler and Benito quoted scripture too.

  7. The Coal Region (Carney’s District) has dying towns which have seen little or no stimulus money except for some highway projects. On the way to Knoebel's Amusement park, it was nice to see they repaved many miles of Route 54. Really, it was a remarkable improvement from the repaving work that was completed less than 5 years ago. I waved I as passed a former state Senators house along Route 54. The only jobs that have been created were from building prisons. They can't even get money for a highly utilized career center and arts center/community college that produces productive citizens. Josh, the money we spend on solar panels for public buildings, skate parks and dog parks here in the valley would move mountains (culm banks) up in the coal region. Descendents of miners, the desire to work is in their blood. Best of luck on your new assignment. I am sure you will find your assignment rewarding.

  8. The Morning Call doesn't have reporters; never did, never will.

It gets in the way of profits and
entertaining a dumb down people of the Valley.

The reckoning is here and more to come.
