Tony Phillips Campaign Manager Resigns

In a message both short and sweet, Ken Matthews tells me he's resigned as campaign manager to Allentown mayoral candidate Tony Phillips. "I am no longer Tony Phillips campaign manager or associated with his campaign."

There is much more to this story, and you'll get it by the end of the week.

  1. Ken Matthews as in the former b104 Ken Matthews?

  2. He runs campaigns? Egads. I only know what I heard on the radio while shaving so he could be a Rhodes Scholar for all I know but running a campaign for Mayor of the third largest city in the commonwealth seems like a stretch.
    I could be wrong.

  3. Tony Phillips is a stretch as a mayor so no harm.

  4. I would have fired matthews for choosing those ugly campaign signs. Christ, was he color blind?

  5. Four more years of Pawlouski. Keep shining Allentown.

  6. I had the misfortune of meeting Mr. Matthews recently and he came across as pompous and arrogant. In addition, he doesn't have a clue about Allentown politics and Tony's campaign has been a complete joke with Mr. Matthews at the helm. There is enough material on this blog alone for Tony to run on. What has he and Mr. Matthews been doing for the past few months?

  7. Campaign Manager:
It is a difficult job at best, probably poorly paid. Matthews may be a very nice person but since year's beginning, he has not helped but hurt Phillips. The campaign website is not attractive or daily updated. Phillips does not return voter phone calls. And, while you mention you've seen him door-to-door, to date we have not. And that doesn't even address the "park" issue that hovers.
It would be outstanding for Allentown to have two D candidates but perhaps an impossibility.

  8. The problem with the campaign signs is they are unreadable as a car passes at 30 mph. A sign has to capture the driver's eye within 3 seconds. The candidate's name and his office must stand out. Phillips' signs are awful. Three of them in front of house on Emaus Avenue near S. 4 St. stand next to three signs selling new windows. Tacky.

  9. Just visited Phillips campaign website. Under Events for Sept.
    Zero.

No way can a teacher who drives to Philly (a drive that easily takes 3 to 4 hours daily) effectively campaign at the same time for the city's highest office.

  11. ".. or just perhaps, Tony's is just not Republican enough for Ken"

Very likely. Ken is an extremist and Tony is not (though I'm not convinced Tony has the skills to be mayor either). For Ken, this was about beating Democrats. For Tony, it's about becoming mayor. A candidate who was a Democrat 1 year ago is not the person an extremist can be running as an operative.

If Tony hasn't knocked on 2,000 doors by now, this race is over. If he's commuting 3-4 hours a day, he isn't going to pick up the door knocking as the school year starts. Just not possible.

  12. So Bernie, are you going to file charges against Villa again? i hope so. maybe this time they will put him in jail.

  13. His goal is to destroy the blogosphere unless it becomes all Villa, all the time. Repeatedly recommending suicide is criminal harassment.

  14. Time to stick a fork in this race & turn it over.

  15. What you'll see now is Pawlowski will continue raising funds so he can re-donate to vulnerable Dems, thereby insuring himself a lucrative government job when his 8 years as Mayor are up. He may even collect old favors and make a run at state rep or state senator.

  16. Having to read some of the nonsense on this blog is aggravated assault.

  17. Give Tony credit for throwing his hat in the ring against the King and his vassal fund-raisers. He is overmatched and will be drawn and quartered in November. Then King Maximus Kickbacksomuch will rule another dismal 4 years for his tax-worn servants in the Queen City.

  18. Lehigh Valley Nobody,

I have looked at your ridiculousness that you are so desperate to show everybody at your "fine" site.

    Can you stop already?

Everyone has probably already been to your trash heap, too.

So, now you can be happy, everyone has seen your "expossay".

    Be happy.
