I supported his $787 billion stimulus package, which was supposed to have kicked in by now. But instead of creating or saving 2.5 million jobs, the unemployment rate has steadily risen. Now, Obama economic advisor Lawrence H. Summers is telling us these lost jobs provide no "basis for concluding that the Recovery Act is falling short of its goals."
Huh?
While our economy founders, House Democrats rammed a cap and trade bill down our throats that will actually cost as many as 35,000 jobs here in Pennsylvania. As energy costs soar, our electricity bills will increase somewhere between $140 and $3,000, depending on whether you listen to Democratic or Republican bags of hot air.
Now, in the wake of two costly monster bills that appear to be failures, Obama insists on enactment of another financial juggernaut, a $1 trillion health insurance plan for 45 million Americans who lack it. A finished bill must be on Obama's desk by the end of August.
Why?
In the meantime, Obama's Presidential Approval Rating of is beginning to slip away. He's doing too much, too fast, without bothering to see whether anything is actually helping.
PALIN 2013! PALIN 2013! PALIN 2013!
ReplyDeleteNothing would please more than seeing her run in 2013. She'd miss the election by a year. It would be fitting. She couldn't quit that way.
ReplyDeletewoops I meant PALIN 2011! PALIN 2011! PALIN 2011!
ReplyDeleteIt would be much worse without the Stimulus Plan.
ReplyDeleteOh yes Palin in whatever year you want. This woman is a buffon. You would be better to promote a ticket of Angle/O'Hare, at least there is no doubting their incompetent insanity.
This woman would have trouble running a Holiday Hair Salon. She makes 'W' look like a brain surgeon rocket scientist.
Bernie,
ReplyDeleteSomehow you forgot to mention to your readers (did you even read the act? or did you just read one reporters account?) that the bill amends the Internal Revenue Code to allow certain low income taxpayers a refundable energy tax credit to compensate such taxpayers for reductions in their purchasing power, as identified and calculated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), resulting from regulation of GHGs.
The act also requires the Administrator to implement the Energy Refund Program to give low-income households a monthly cash energy refund equal to the estimated loss in purchasing power resulting from this Act.
Bernie it seems like I told you this about Obama. A community organizer does not know how to run a country.
ReplyDeleteBob Romancheck
We are mortgaging our future, and our children's future on Obama's spending spree. The stimulus package should have been grants and tax credits to businesses that actually hire someone. Instead it went to "shovel ready" projects that weren't and lots of PORK. Thry had a hard time giving this money away. Agencies were told to "come up with programs to spend Stimulus money" whether there was a real need or not. The nation's economy could have been fine tuned over a period of natural recovery, but instead Obama and the free-spending liberal Democrats do what they do best- spend money without consequences or accountability. What else could we have expected from Obama's election and the takeover of Congress by the Dems? Is a bankrupt America just around the corner? If so, who is going to bail US out?
ReplyDeleteThe guy's a sorta lawyer who's likely never balanced his checkbook. His Sec Treas is a deer-in-the-headlights tax cheat. Did anyone really expect these clowns to fix the economy?
ReplyDeleteThey were taken advantage of by seasoned Democrat Congressional spenders with long wish lists and eight years of a pent up spending jones.
Get used to the shared misery concept. From an economic standpoint, we've re-elected Jimmy Carter. Rs needn't do anything but let him crash and burn the same way.
Here's hoping the country survives his recovery.
incremental approaches to gov't produce the status quo. The guy told us during the election that he was going to be agressive. did you not believe he would do it? if it sounded like too much too soon then and you ignored it, then you probably just didn't want anything to really change.
ReplyDeleteAnd for a guy who inheritate the worst financial colapse since the great depression, let's give him and his agenda a little more than 7 months to deem it too much, too little, too soon, too long, miserable failure, gleaming success. A year or two would certainly be nice. Heck, it took us 8 years to realize the gigantic oooops that was W.
Ha Ha Ha Ha
ReplyDeleteAnyone who studied up on Obama knows what to expect...
Ha Ha Ha Ha
Registered Democrat Here (look it up)! :)
Beautiful sun shinny day in utopia today, is it not?
Tired of being slandered as a racist
I did my HOMEWORK on Obama, who is only half black from what I understand.
Ha Ha Ha Ha
You get what you vote for!
Anon 4:15, Have you taken the time to read it? It's 1100 pages, so no, I have not. It would have been nice had House Dems given the Rs who actually voted on the bill a chance to do that.
ReplyDeleteI have read all the summaries from both sides. It's bad legislation, poorly conceived, that will hurt us.
Six months in office is not enough time to revive the worlds economy and since when is the president responsible for the greedy stock market adventurers? Bush threw money at this thing too..remember? Health care is doable if the rich people give up their yachts! He's in a hurry cause next years mid term elections could erode his narrow support to get the big bills thru. Cap and trade was Pelosi's and it will die in the Senate. Patience is a virtue and our culture has no patience for anything!
ReplyDeleteHats off to Dent for refusing to vote for a rushed bill that nobody read. The longer sweeping bills are debated, the less popular they become. There is a reason for this. Rahm Emanuel knows this and doesn't want any degree of scrutiny. This is not open, honest government.
ReplyDeleteDave, I don't blame Obama for our economy or financial mess or health insurance crisis or energy costs. But I do blame him for not changing the way government does business. He promises a new, bipartisan, approach to the nation's issues. But he has done the opposite. The stimulus was rammed through. I could understand that, but then the cap and trade bill. And now, healthcare reform by August. Then a second stim package. Things are being rushed through with no consderation to what is working and what is not.
ReplyDeleteObama = Socialist Marxist with a popular mandate
ReplyDeleteonly 3 1/2 more years :)
Where are all the Obamabots?
ReplyDeleteYou are probably killing your numbers, O'Hare...
I can tell you from personal experience, speaking out against the Messiah is strictly VERBOTEN.
People WILL hate you for it.
Oh well.
YES WE CAN (destroy the country)
GO OBAMA GO
I don't consider him a socialist-marxist, not even close. I did consider him a realist, i.e., a person who was willing to try different things until he found something that works. He certainly claimed to be genuinely interested in the other side and claimed he needed their help.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I think his presidency will be a failure unless and until he adopts a more bipartisan tone There are some you just can't talk to. We see that locally, where partisans scream "trust no Democrats" or "Bill Leiner is a back stabber." All of that is counterproductive.
But a conservative view point on financial matters should be given serious consideration.
Dave said...
ReplyDeleteBush threw money at this thing too..remember?
You're right Dave, and SENATOR Obama was right there with him voting for it.
If you could put your party allegiance aside for a minute, you might realize that you re-elected George Bush to a third term, albeit on a larger scale.
Bernie -
ReplyDeleteBe thankful that you're not a moderate Democrat who has been strong-armed into putting his/her re-election in jeopardy by voting for the stimulus bill, cap and trade, and the health care bill. Regardless of anyone's political affiliation, the vast majority of the electorate believe that their legislators should at least read what they're voting on. Come 2010, moderate Dems will have to answer for their actions this term. Only a robust recovery will save them. Odds, anyone?
Bernie asks;
ReplyDeleteA finished bill must be on Obama's desk by the end of August.
Why?
Because he has delayed the release of the annual midsummer budget update, so if they can pass it before the numbers are released, he'll get it thru. If the numbers come out first, this bill is, and should be, toast.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090720/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_midsummer_s_budget_nightmare
“The administration’s annual midsummer budget update is sure to show higher deficits and unemployment and slower growth than projected in President Barack Obama’s budget in February and update in May, and that could complicate his efforts to get his signature health care and global-warming proposals through Congress.
The release of the update — usually scheduled for mid-July — has been put off until the middle of next month, giving rise to speculation the White House is delaying the bad news at least until Congress leaves town on its August 7 summer recess.”
Whether partisans like it or not, this mess is Obamas now. He hasn't made things better. It's actually gotten worse. He's made the Bush deficits look like the work of an amatuer.
This is the change Obama promised. All you suckers thought it would be change for the better. Suckers.
Obama stands on stage and tells the citizens that the health care plan will allow people to keep their existing insurance. Really:
ReplyDeleteWhat about:
"Limitation On New Enrollment" section of the bill clearly states:
"Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day" of the year the legislation becomes law.
So we can all keep our coverage, just as promised — with, of course, exceptions: Those who currently have private individual coverage won't be able to change it. Nor will those who leave a company to work for themselves be free to buy individual plans from private carriers.
A new tax on health insurance premiums, but Union health benefits are excludd from the tax.
He will close donut hol in MEdiacre Rx coverage by limiting acess to some drugs to save money
He will reduce medicare and expand Medicaide which is going to meove the bil from federal dollars to state tax dollars.
It is a a shell game, that is what he is a huckster, a flim flam man and arrogant self inflated silver tongued scam artisit.
Wake up America!

OBAMA IS A FRAUD
"But a conservative view point on financial matters should be given serious consideration."
ReplyDeleteDid you forget the commerce secretary that later back out of his nomination b/c he couldn't agree with the econonmic agenda? I'm sorry Bernie, but during the stimulus go round, Obama reached out to R's, made phone calls and did everything he could to convince them to come over and work with him on the matter. Didn't Dent even get an invite to come to the White House. At the end of the day, not a single R voted for the thing. Not a single one. He tried bipartisan and got slapped around on it. Of course he's not going to try it again.
There is a funny thing about bipartisanship: like negociation, it requires a good faith effort. Nobody in DC, on the left or the right, is willing to enter into anything under good faith effort at this time. Since the early 1990's, everything has been about stopping the opposition, making them look out of touch and trying to win more power during the next election. Those that try to enter something in good faith get cut down or taken advantage of by those who view bipartisanship as a weakness.
Would it be great to get a few R's to vote with him on matters? Sure would be. In the meantime, I think we will have to accept that one of his most easily predicted failures will be that the number of bipartisan initiatives coming from DC is likely to be no different in 2009-2010 as it was in 2007-2008.
Ironpigpen, a tidbit to give you on politics-- your commentary makes you look petty and destroys the credibility of your message. When the credibility of the messenger is lost, forget about being taken seriously.
ReplyDeleteRight or wrong, you look like a petty fool right now.
I voted for the guy and even agreed with the first stimulus package. But it appears to me we need to slow down and take stock instead of rushing things through Congress. I don't consider Obama a socialist-Marxist and certainly don't consider him a villiage idiot. That kind of language just polarizes people. There's no question we need to do something about our economy, energy dependence and health care. The question is what is the right thing. Why not work on solutions that most of us can buy?
ReplyDeleteAll Proposed Legislation Posted On Website For Public To Read For FIVE DAYS
ReplyDeleteThat is an OBAMA lie.
There are millions already, Obama lies, in just six months.

ReplyDeleteCOMMUNITY ORGANIZERS are NOT PREPARED to be the PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES
spend, spend, spend

I'd agree that members of Congress need time to digest legislation before voting on it. I would not call Obama a fraud or a liar. Clearly, we are a nation in crisis and he is trying to find answers. My objection is that BOTH sides need to listen to the center. That includes people on the left and people on the right. If you just toss names at people, you lose them.
ReplyDeleteThe U. S. Government's power doesn't just lay within the executive office!

Childish..isn't it? Washington is a joke and absolute power corrupts absolutely! Where's our founding fathers when we need them? Look what we have become.
ReplyDeleteWhen the majority votes for idiotic things..they become law despite what most intelligent people will argue is a better idea. Democracy fosters these wrong headed but popular ideas and the minority must grin and bear it. Worst form of government until you try to think of one that is better.

And the righties can be happy because the IRONPIGPEN will, in fact, SHUT UP!
On my F&$%&#@ terms, not yours

IronPigPen,
ReplyDelete1) I'm very sorry to read that you're going to discontinue the sports blog. That is the most informative source of information I've ever read about minor league baseball.
2) You've posted 19 comments here. In them, you continually refer to Obama as a fraud and liar. You disparage him and those who support him. It is little wonder someone would tell you to shut up.
3) When someone finally does, you act all offended and claim to be demonized, which is justification for more demonization from you.
4) I prefer good discussion, focused on the issues. Legislators should have more time to digest proposed legislation. It appears that some of these deadlines are driven by political expediency instead of a desire to solve real problems. But there are real problems.
5) Many of the more conservative thinkers who post here have great suggestions. That is so much more refreshing than the childish taunts that inevitably arise from partisan behavior. Don't you think you can do better?
Why is the president delaying the release of the deficit numbers due out this week? He's delaying their release by a month. Why?
ReplyDeleteSuspicions are that the numbers show the fiction that was his original stimulus calculation.
Shouldn't we get a full view of their early math skills before signing on to any more of their plan?
This is not a change in the way government does business. It's old, bad government on steroids.
Obama's approval numbers are tanking as independents/moderates are delivering their verdict on his taking a bad economy and making it much worse.
ReplyDeleteBiden's admonition that we must keep spending to avoid bankruptcy is the quintessential statement of this administration's plan.
It's reassuring that it's taken such a short time for people to say, "enough."
you can't run your household by spending and borrowing recklessly. What makes the Dems think its any different for our nation. Throw the bums out!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTo Bernie from Anon 4:15 AM
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't read all the pages of the legislation. That's not the point I am making.
You misinformed your readers by saying that they would all lose money, which is untrue. The legislation stipulates that a refund and tax credits would be going back to those in need/poor.
The accounts you must have read were also misleading to the public.
A refund? For what? The increased utlity bills? The increased cost of food caused by increaased utility bills? The lost jobs?
ReplyDeleteAnd to whom? Define those in need.
I'm not trying to be a wise ass. I will try to find out more, and in the meantime, I'd be thankful for any link you can send me to corroborate your claims.
Assuming this is true, it is still very strange. The government takes money away from those in need and the poor. Then it gives it back, or at least some of it. Does this make any sense?
I'll add here I try very hard NOT to misinform, so I will e looking into your claim, even if you can't get me a link.
ReplyDeleteTHIS JUST IN Effective 4 PM today
ReplyDeleteObama will no longer allow the term Healthcare Reform to be used. Hence forth it is referred to as
Insurance Reform
(Also today... Ted Kennedy admits and suggests that care rationing will be necessary to meet their health care goals,( I wonder who is rationing his care and denying HIM Chemotherapy and radiation becasue of his age.)
Kennedy will be punk'd when he learns that alcohol detox isn't covered under Obama Care.
ReplyDeleteThe following site was written by the Congressional Research Service, a well-respected nonpartisan arm of the Library of Congress.

There's your link, Bernie.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link. Here's what it says: "Amends the Internal Revenue Code to allow certain low income taxpayers a refundable energy tax credit to compensate such taxpayers for reductions in their purchasing power, as identified and calculated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), resulting from regulation of GHGs."
ReplyDeleteThis may help some low-income taxpayers whose utility bills increase. But how low? What about the inflation this will cause? I will look into this, but it does not seem to be enough of a safeguard at first blush.
I do have to thank you for the link. I never cease to be amazed by what my readers know. I think it's important enough to look at more closely.
ReplyDeleteYour welcome, BC.
ReplyDeleteHOW WILL WE TREAT OUR SENIORS
ReplyDeleteDiscrimination against the elderly when it comes to healthcare is not discrimination — at least not to a key member of the Barack Obama administration.
Ezekiel Emanuel is director of the Clinical Bioethics Department at the U.S. National Institutes of Health and an architect of Obama's healthcare reform plan. He is also the brother of Rahm Emanuel, Obama's White House chief of staff.
Express Riders, the blog of conservative businessman and philanthropist Foster Friess, reports that Ezekiel Emanuel has written that health services should not be guaranteed to "individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens."
He also stated, "An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia," according to Friess' site.
Friess also points to an equally troubling article co-authored by Emanuel, which appeared in the medical journal The Lancet in January. It read in part: "Unlike allocation [of healthcare] by sex or race, allocation by age is not invidious discrimination. Every person lives through different life stages rather than being a single age.
"Even if 25-year-olds receive priority over 65-year-olds, everyone who is 65 years now was previously 25 years.
"Treating 65-year-olds differently because of stereotypes or falsehoods would be ageist; treating them differently because they have already had more life-years is not."
If we can get national healthcare, maybe all the Longdems and other local politicians will be able to get access to Thorazine, Lithium, and things will improve for their constituents.
ReplyDeletePolitics are a pendelum. When you swing a pendelum too far in one direction it snaps back dramatically in the other direction. Bush was eight years of creating a huge deficit, billions on an unecessary war, financial meltdown, one disaster after another, that the country is in a mood of letting anyone who is the complete opposite of him do whatever he or she wants because there is such a reaction to the eight disastorous years we just had. As long as it's different from what Bush would do, the public sees it as beneficial. I don't know how history will view the Obama presidency but the country is evening out the damage.
ReplyDeleteWow, a right-wingnut feeding frenzy. This is just what some of you whack jobs enjoy.
ReplyDeleteWait until your insurance company doesn't pay on a chronic broncial condition in your sixties because of pre-existing condition. Impossible? The amazing thing it stems from a severe bronchial infection successfully treated 25 years earlier.
True story the lady has been paying premiums for years and as soon as the words chronic came out the Insurance company pulled the plug.
GTod Bless those caring Insurance eExecutives, we thank them from defending us from thoughtless government types.

Bernie:
ReplyDeleteUnemployment is a lagging characteristic of business cycles. Note the recession started long before unemployment took its drastic plunge.
Firms will not hire until they have started earning profits again (just starting now) and productivity grows by using existing employees.
Look at the employment rate for almost business cycle for many, many decades. You will see improvement does not occur until after the recession ends.
The cap and trade legislation may have a cost, but I believe it is a good thing.
Finally, someone has to tackle this country's health care system.
Biting off too much? He has to. The mess that was created by the last administration needs rapid action.
bernie,
ReplyDeletei'm also disappointed- but what do you expect when he keeps outsourcing his bills to pelosi & reid? remember what i've been saying for the last 15 years....
He's David Dinkins. He's Wilson Goode. He's the promise of an African-American turned disastrous by the Peter Principle. Obama has similarly failed up. His numbers are tanking quicker and worse than Carter's. Congress took him for a stooge and was correct in its assumption. He is an unmitigated failure after just six months. He was barely an Illinois dogcatcher four years ago. He had no experience or accomplishments. He'd never run a business or balanced a budget. He had all the shortcoming Americans have rejected regularly in Senators. What did we expect?
ReplyDeleteThe racistis are out in force tonight. You really hate the fact an African-American is President. You should do drugs like Rush and Bush, it would help you mellow out.
ReplyDeleteOr you could hike the Appalachian Trail.
Last November, I voted for Obama. Was it the right choice?
ReplyDeleteYeah, believe it or not, "change" can be bad too. Who woulda thunk....
