Appointed by the court as a Child Custody and Juvenile Dependency Master in 2003, Sam applied the same dedication to those matters that he had developed as a lawyer. One day, I saw him looking at a scrap of paper he pulled out from his shirt pocket. It had one word inscribed on it - "Compassion." Even as a Master, playing the role of King Solomon, Sam always worked at making himself better.
That extends to baseball, too. Local sports buffs probably remember Sam as the Lehigh Little League manager who took his boys to the state championship and national regionals in 2002. Every time I visited their complex last season, the first thing I would see is a gigantic cardboard picture of that team, with a proud Sam standing in the middle. I wonder if they've been able to wash out the moustache I drew on Sam's face after the Lehigh Majors beat Northwest last year.
Sam is now running for one of the three open positions on the Northampton County bench. He already has the support of most local attorneys. There's a reason for that, too. He certainly is the best of a very distinguished and capable field.
I'll have more to say about Sam as his campaign progresses, but am happy he has announced, not for him, but for us.
This is bad news for Zito. Sam Murray is so well known in the Lebanese Community and they will vote in outrageous numbers for him they way they did for Mike Khoury. Unfortunately, for Sam no one outside that community has ever heard of him. He will need to spend 100,000 to get known outside his own base.
ReplyDeleteWhat's bad news for turncoat Zito? Sam is and always has been a D. He won't change parties to advance his ego. The R's won't support Zito either as the rumor in Easton is, he has switched back to a D.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Murray's Italian family connections in Easton.
ReplyDeleteSam Murray is a decent human being who is dedicated to fairness in the justice system. He has proven himself to be an excellent Master in the juvenile courts and his demeanor and decorum on the bench is amazing.
ReplyDeleteSam deserves to be a Judge. He has the smarts, the experience and the compassion needed. Not to mention the Italian and Lebanese community in Easton and his involvement in the Bethlehem Township and surrounding area.
He will be a great addition to the NorCo bench.
Thanks for giving Sam Murray your support, Bernie. To the thousands who come in and out of the trenches in juvenile and custody court, he's already a great Judge, because of his respect for the law, for the parties, for staff and for the Court.
ReplyDeleteI am Lebanese, and our Lebanese community in Easton will be behind Sam Murray 1,000%. He is very respected and admired among our people and we wish him all the best.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not mistaken, he taught a business law class at Moravian. That's my only 1st hand experience of that guy. Positive overall.
