One Vote to Watch
Is the Lehigh Valley Democratic delegation to the state legislature reform-minded? That question will be answered, at least in my view, when we see how they vote on whether to re-elect House majority leader Bill DeWeese. According to Capitol Ideas, who has a subscription to the too expensive Capitolwire, the DeWeese quest has "more twists and turns than a discarded chapter of a Tom Clancy spy novel." We'll find out November 18.

ReplyDeleteIf House Dems re-elect DeWeese, I will conclude they are interested in nothing mor than preserving the status quo. House Rs who elected Perzel in the past should be called on the carpet for that, too.
I'll pay attention to that vote too, but I'll draw my final conclussion on campaign finance reform, transparent gov't, ethics reform and other issues. One vote on one leadership position won't be my only basis for that decision.

btw, I'm not sure that the alternative, Eachus, is much better. Frankly, I don't trust any of the elected leadership.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we pretty much agree. It's never a good idea to judge someone based on one vote or one issue. But it's definitely a vote to watch.

i talked to one of the people listed above yesterday. Nobody is really sure what is going to happen. Eachus may or may not put his name in the running. The wild card is Shapiro and Gerber.

ReplyDeletei, too, am looking at the lehigh valley delegation to see if they are leaders or just a bunch of pols. i can remember when jennifer mann was this nice young woman we were lucky to have in public office. now she's become just a hack.
Considering Freeman's punishment a few years ago for not going along with the pay raise, I would think he would vote for an alternative, IF a legitimate one were in a real position to win. If one is not, then I don't know if he'd want to be in the wood shed twice (doubt).

Related to another story on the Capitol Ideas site(Knoll's passing), makes obvious why I read last week Rendell quickly dismissing any position in an Obama administration until he finished out his term. Besides him have too much respect for PA to hand the reigns over to Knoll with her healthy, let lone gravely ill, now he would be turning it over to the GOP if left.
ReplyDeleteSay what you want about the GOP, but don't forget that GOP voters bumped out Jubelierer and Brightbill in the Senate after the payraise debacle despite the money boys trying to keep them in power. If the Dem electorate keeps these people in office then you get what you deserve. The Dems spout "change", but nothing did with them at that time and I'll certainly be waiting to see what happens now.
