Poll Results: Northampton County's Next Exec

I'll have more about this later, but here's the results from my Northampton County exec poll.

State Rep. Richard Grucela 37% (41 votes)

Council President Ann McHale 13% (14 votes)

Lehigh County Administrator Ron Heckman 50% (55 votes)

Total Votes: 110

  1. Ron Heckman would make a GREAT County Executive. The only reason he fell out of the Bethlehem Mayoral race is that "someone" pulled the "Hatch Act" out of their hat. Despite the fact that other individuals ran for office while an employee of a government entity, Mr Heckman was called on the carpet for it and was forced to drop out of the race

If you examine Mr. Heckman's record, you would find that he was one of the most fiscally responsible people on County Council during his years in that position. Leopards do not change their spots. Also, he is not afraid to take a position and stand behind it.

  2. Don't you just hate it when someone has the temerity to pull the law out of his or her hat? Mr. Daday, could you please explain to my readers why Heckman never familiarized himself with the requirements of the Hatch Act before deciding to run? Did he think he would get a special exempton?

  3. Isn't that a bit harsh Mr. O'Hare considering he may have thought he was in very good company. Jack Bradt, Human Services Director ran for County Council in 97. John Stoffa, Lehigh County Human Services Director ran for County Council in 01.
Neither were called on their disregard for the Hatch Act but Heckman was, what a coincidence that Bradt and Stoffa would team up in 05.
Who knows maybe Heckamn hoped for the same "special exemption" apparently given to Bradt and Stoffa.
You are one nasty and vindictive little man.

  4. I totally disagree with the little man statement..You are certainly not little, Bernie..

  5. John Stoffa, Lehigh County Human Services Director ran for County Council in 01.

False. Stoffa was retired when he ran for county council. There was no Hatch Act problem. The simple reality is that heckman failed to inform himself of the law;'s basic requirements. Bradt, the other person mentioned, was never elected to anything.

  6. I have deleted an anonymous comment, posted 6:24 PM, by a Heckman supporter posting vulgar remarks.

  7. Actually it was a post by an employee and was not vulgar. It confirmed your sources were wrong and explained the Hatch Act. Both Stoffa and Bradt were in violation of it.
You are the new Severson, Mr. O 'Hare. You delete the truth because it conflicts with your own erroneous post.

  8. Your comment was deleted because you made an inappropriate and vulgar remark. I don't accept your word for anything.

As previously inidicated, I don't care what Bradt did or did not do because he was never elected to anything.

Assuming there was some kind of overlap when Stoffa ran for county council, which I doubt, Stoffa nevertheless resigned his position at LC. Accordingly, he necessarily complied with the Hatch Act.

You just continue to diminish yourself with these bullshit arguments. The reality is that whoever was advising Heckman in his Bethlhem mayoral bid was not even familiar with the hatch Act. With friends like those ...

Now Heckman ius being backed by nutz who try to defend his violation of the law by cvlaiming others may have broken the law, too. Last time I checked, that is not a legal defense.

Heckman's supporters also make insulting and disparaging sexual remarks to anyone who stands in their way. I deleted that, but maybe I should have kept it up. You're not doing your candidate any favors. You're just hurting him.

  9. John Stoffa held the Lehigh County Human Services Director position during the primary and general elections, fact. Jack Bradt held the Northampton County Human Services position during the general election for County Council, fact.
Intentions are meaningless. The Fed's demand yiu either RESIGN immediately or publicly withdraw from the race.
You want facts, those are the facts. Whatever you think of employees who refuse to bow to your propaganda, the truth will win out.
I have known Mr. Heckman many, many years and the nasty statements and inferences you make about him are not only non-factual but cruel.
You arbitrarily decide be it Heckman, Pawlosski or someone else who you will trash and go at it. Likewise you arbitarily decide who you will praise and praise and defend them regardless of facts.
You should not have put this mans name on your poll if you could not deal with what you thought was the 'long shot' possibility that many employees and oyhers who have known him over the years would vote for him. All know you wanted Mr. Grucella to win and expected it.
You stated this was IF Stoffa didnot run. What in Mr. Heckamns record diqualifies him for office? Not opinions but facts.
Otherwise you are no better than the Stoffa bashers.

  10. If Stoffa violated the Hatch Act, as you claim, be sure and turn him in. I doubt the feds will keep a straight face as you recite your "facts." It's amazing they haven't prosecuted him yet.

I don't have anything against Heckman, just you. It must have really bothered you when Stoffa stopped your unemployment, huh? Embarrassed by that Bill White column, too? That's why you give him shots, too. You're terrified that Stoffa might run again bc it will be over for hacks like you.

People like you are why we need people like Stoffa aand Angle.

  11. Awhen it comes to ny of these mentioned candidates are old news and, frankly, not qualified to run a government. Grucella is a state LEGISLATOR, not sure he ever submitted/defended a budget or supervised people not part his political team. Ann McHale, blah, blah, an insurance sales person totally out of her league. Ervin and Baker come to mind over in Lehigh County. Fresh young blood needs to be tapped for this job. In the Northampton County Townships, there are plenty of able bodied qualified professionals that can step forward and run the County day to day operations. Perhaps, both parties should look at what is out there before devining the same old same old.

  12. Berno,
You should get your facts straight before spouting things that are not true. You sound like John McCain's supporters.Heckman's backers are current day politicos like Governor Rendell, Don Cunningham, John Callahan, and, a powerful group of Dems, mostly from Harrisburg, who will work to see him win in 2009.If you want to be critical of his "supporters", find out who they are. Its not difficult, because everbody knows, apparantly, except you.Be current and most of all- be factual.

  13. Just checked in for my weekly browse.Last writer is correct. I work in Lehigh County, and, am a politico, and, have my eyes and ears open for political info. The word filtering through the County Government, is that Heckman is going to be supported, big time, by Don Cunningham, and, his buddy, the Governor. As to local supporters,as the previous writer said, I, too, have heard no names mentioned, including two of Ron's best friends, Glenn, who is supposedly retiring in 2010, and, Bob,who, I'm told, just purchased a beach house, down south, and, will be moving there soon. It doesn't sound like either one of them has politics on their mind.I've heard no other local names from the past few Administrations, who might be getting involved in the upcoming County Executive campaign. Its either too early, or, very hush hush.Let's see what happens, but, whatever it is, it should make for good blog conversation.

  14. Bernie,
Before exiting your blog for another week, I thought of a person whom I know is privy to a lot of information as it relates to the County races, and, those that are in or out, and, those who are on the campaigns, and, or, are supporting those campaigns. I called him shortly after sent this to you, and, he just called back.My e mail above, I'm happy to say, is 100% correct. Now you know who the players are for the 2009 races. Check in with you next week.

  15. The annon 2:31 post is not true and was posted by a known McHale supporter to throw fuel on the fire regarding discreditng Heckman.
Ask the principals involved and they will confirm.
