HRH DePaul Resigns as Norco Voting Registrar
DePaul is best remembered as the county worker who attempted to stick the county with a $2,470 private attorney bill when she once brought legal windbag Larry Otter to a citizens' advisory panel as a "buffer" to protect her "from the falsehoods and basic lies."
Update: Sarah Cassi, reporting for the Express Times, notes the job will be advertised internally. The Morning Call's Joe Nixon adds that DePaul's decision is voluntary.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
Mr. O’Hare,
ReplyDeleteI will remain above all the disparaging comments that you have attempted to bestow upon me. As a Christian I serve, and I am to forgive. You are a challenge. I have received a great deal of positive which far out shines this blog. I do not recall this comment about “reign,” but it is the furthest from any true meaning of holding my position. My staff is, and will be more of a family then just my employees, and they know I didn’t even care for the word boss. Anyone that speaks up or defends themselves when they feel they are being treated unfairly is doing the right thing. The county never paid a bill, and it was never my intention other then having non-partisan representation. We all know that an appointed attorney, although a very supportive one is beholding to his source of income. Your thought process defies logic. Two things, you are not doing a service but a disservice when you keep or frighten good people from running for office or doing a job. The world in general, and most importantly the world of politics NEED good people desperately. Think before you write or post Bernie. Also, remember you may depend upon others someday also; you put my father down for defending me. You now have a daughter in the service, god bless her and keep her safe, but what if something arose negative with regards to her. I would certainly hope that you would be by her side. One other thing, we do watch our parent’s behaviors, and actions, try to think of that in your travels, and made your daughter proud. I have made a choice to try a new venture in my life. Why don’t you just wish me well Bernie, that would be the decent thing to do.

Bernie: Frankly, who cares. This ia an administrative job that can be filled by a rank and file worker. While I have no grudge against the person currently in the position or the one who will fill it, as a Northampton County taxpayer, I say so what. I am sure some County employee will step in and do a fine job and make sure that all "i's" are dotted and "t's" are crossed. This job is as assembly line as it gets. Sorry, just my opine. I wish Miss DePaul all the best in her job search and future endeavors.
ReplyDeleteMs. DePaul,
ReplyDeleteEvery word I wrote about you is truth, right down to your decision to call your tenure your "reign" or your decision to select a lawyer from a list provided by Joe Long and then try to stick the county with the bill. And this is without me writing about your attempts to obtain overtime pay.
We all know that an appointed attorney, although a very supportive one is beholding to his source of income. Your thought process defies logic.
ReplyDeleteLet me get this stright. You want the county to pay for your lawyer but think he will be independent? You let the Dem party boss make the recommendation? And whose thought process defies logic.
I believe your continued presence there was trouble and don't believe for a second that you had any interest in running fair elections, so I can't be a phony and say I'm sorry to see you go.
But i will wish you well.
Tonight's entertainment: Bernie O'Hare dancing an Irish jig on Deb DePaul's political grave. Always gotta have the last word, eh BO?
ReplyDeleteAnd unlike you lvpoliploppers and members of Team Casey, I don't need to hide behind a veil of anonymity. If I think someone is a bad public servant, they'll know it and they will be welcome to respond. But you folks throw knives and then hide. And your posts go poof! There is a big difference.
ReplyDeleteYo BO, you are the first to defend anonymous posts and I am glad you do. Dispite your unhealthy love of Stoffa their are some of us who know we could be pushed out like DePaul.
ReplyDeleteFrom before he was sworn in , Stoffa had some grudges to settle. Some went fast, others needed to be finessed-like DePaul. He created his Council of Croonies to defame her and give credence to the whisper campaign of goofs like Bradt and Company that the election was a mess because of her.
She was hpounded to get out so Stoffa could give the job to another buddy.
And the Press Corps cheered, YEA!!
The simple truth is that our elections were, as Stoffa put it, "like watching an elephant give birth." The office was a mess and it cannot all be laid at DePaul's doormat. First, the county had to adjust to the new requirements of HAVA. Second, the county had to acquire voting machines, which proved to be a disaster. Third, there were many allegations of unfairness coming out of the office. In one instance, when Congressmnan Dent had some information for the chair of the elections commission, he was actually directed to Joe Long, the Northampton County Democratic boss!
ReplyDeleteDuring hearings conducted by the citizens' advisory panel, John Conklin was able to work on procedures to help that office run more smoothly. In addition, the panel discovered problems with AVS long before the state itself was aware of them. Thanks to that committee, we learned the voting machine company went thru an election with machines that were never certified.
During the course of those hearings, DePaul displayed complete disrespect to the county executive. She was disruptive, monopolized meeting time and made partisan remarks.
I can guarantee you that if I were King, she would be gone.
Do you know what the evil John Stoffa said about her? "How can we help her?" Hios focus was not on DePaul, but badly run elections.
All he cared about was making sure our elections run smoothly.
What Conklin and Stoffa did was perform a minor miracle.
Yea, the miracle is they turn BS into gold in your eys.
ReplyDeleteAnon 5:32: The problem is that a rank and file HAS been doing the job for the past few years and the results are obviously chaos and ineffciency.
ReplyDeleteVisit registration is some other counties to see what is possible. You would be amazed at the efficiency and voter service that is possible. the SURE system works well but the county registrar needs to be able to impent it
Now for the croony patrol
