Last week, I told you Democrats have picked up a huge lead over Republican voters in Northampton County. It's happened in Lehigh County, too.
According to figures released by voter registration, there are now 101,682 registered Democrats, over 8,000 more than the 93,215 who claimed to be members of the party of Jefferson last November.
GOP voters are set at 76,844. This is down from the 79,280 Republicans registered in November, but not nearly so bad as the 9,000 voters lost in Northampton County.
Overall, registration has increased from 206,079 to 210,505, as might be expected during a presidential election year.

Dems always had the lead in NC and LC.
ReplyDeleteI'm uncertain whether Dems have always had a lead in both counties. I'd like to see the data that proves that. I do find it remarkable that Dems have increased their ranks by 13,500 voters in the LV while Rs have dropped around 12,000.
ReplyDeleteBernie I think it is also important to point out the large number of independents in both counties. It was appear that they may have wanted to vote for one or the other democrats. In any event, I think it is important to note that dems or republicans can win without the indies.

Republicans aren’t switching parties to vote for the weaker candidate but to insure to battle between the two Democrats continues. A show this spectacular must go on, we find it so entertaining.

ReplyDeleteBut the interesting numbers are prior to this.
People have been leaving the Republican Party prior to Operation Chaos and becoming registered independents.
I provided the stunning numbers to the local GOP and our Vice Chairman at the time (not our current one) stated "that is no big deal."
With such leaders in the GOP, no wonder we are losing ground. BTW, this same "leader" stated that the GOP should move to the right to gain electoral victories.
Oops, correction. The prior Vice Chair stated that the GOP must move to "the left" to gain electoral victories.

I believe you are correct. The average voter is getting pretty tired of politicians and the games that the political handlers play.
ReplyDeleteThey want leadership. And solutions. Not typical "they suck", "No, you suck" B.S. Or worse, the collusion to pretend they 'solved' a problem or jointly working together to ignore an issue.
